That might be your opinion but they're both more popular if fan threads & support groups are anything to go by.
I found Jacob to be very very dull

Yes, Here is a summation and interpretation of the come on lines from everyone.Mesina2 wrote...
I found Jacob only boring until with one of my FemShep's I did romance with him. I started to hate him then.
Douchebag dumped me 3 times!
Ashley: I like poetry, and that fine ass. (kind of cute, and I do like the fact that she's not brainless)
Kaiden: I love you, but it's hard to shake the military protocal. (A little boring, but sincer and although he's way too boring for my character to keep around, it gives him some hidden depth).
Liara: I've never done this before, but I want this so badly. (Cute, sincere, totally Moe, this is a major part of the reason I chose Liara as my main romance.)
Mirranda: I never settle for anything but the best, and you are the best. (Nice, very fitting with the character, not my favorite, but still something I'd like to be called.)
Garrus: I don't really know how to woo humans, but I want to try with you. (turns the badass turian into an adorkable lug... I love it)
Tali: I want you to see me without my mask... I'm willing to risk dying just for one kiss. (This is the most organic romance in the series [though Liara's comes close], so Moe, so adorkable, so close to insanity that it must be love)
Thane: You have the same spirit, the same spark as my wife, I think I love you. (True to form, if a bit creepy, and the way he breaks down made me feel for the guy).
Jack: I've been a closed off **** my entire life, but... look I'm sorry for pushing you away. (Though I like the tearfelt apology, there was something off about the romance... I think it was because Jack needed a friend, and I doubt could handle a romantic relationship. Still it did tug at the heartstrings).
Jacob... I have to use the quote here, "Heavy risk, but the priiiiize," (CREEPY and a little myssagenistic... maybe the developers thought his abs made up for every "romantic" line out of his mouth was the height of creepy guy who wants to own women... He does in fact have great abs).

I don't think I have to say much about femShep's voice acting and animations while speaking with him, though. Yeah, that's pretty well beaten and I think most people get it. His own battle dialogue and romance lines...er...are cringe-worthy. I never brought him in a fight unless necessary (loyalty mission, in other words). And some of his judgments are very poor.
In spite of that, he was a decent individual. Once I maneuvered through the dialogue and got to the spilling drinks conclusion, I was very happy. I wish the bro-Jacob was the one we were able to get to know throughout the game, not the stand-offish, sometimes passive aggressive Jacob. He started very well in the beginning, sunk like a rock throughout the game, and it isn't until you gain his loyalty that, hey, he's back to being a bro.
I'm wondering if BW just didn't know what to do with him because sometimes it's like he's two or three different characters. I wish, whatever they were trying to do, they'd have figured it out and done it better.

His voice, that's definitely the number 1 thing. And that's not because he's voiced by a black guy, there are tons of black movie characters with very different persona's that I like. Whenever Jacob says something it is as though he's trying to make it sound like something extreme.
His complaints. About Legion, about Thane, about Cerberus, about the Alliance, His Father, and even himself (When speaking about Miranda).
His loyalty quest. Yeah, I get that it's his father, but it seems things do take absurdly long before they start to sink in for him. And when you finally get to his father, Jacob's dialog is just weak.
Aside from those things, his back-story is fine and he doesn't look bad.

Jacob is like having an awkward conversation with someone you see while your out and about and run into them when you really don't want to talk to them.
I'm glad he's dead; it makes avoiding him easier.

When I first saw him I was like oh Jacob, this is gonna be awesome. Then he spouted out I should let him know when to hit em with the good stuff and I wanted to punch him. But hey maybe that was a one time bad-line. So we get to a lul-in the action and he throws out 'But this is gettin' tense!' ...**** no its not, it WAS tense, now its not. It's actually kinda calm at this point.
Hell I just don't like how he talks and how they used him. He belongs in some 70's exploit film.

As far as I'm concerned, the entire ME2 cast could come back for ME3, plus the original cast, and I'd be content.

I certainly didn't hate Jacob. I still thought he was better than Kaiden (with his soft, story book voice and mannerisms).

Although I personally don't like Jacob, I totally agree that it would be great if everyone from 1 & 2 returns = everyone's happy

Jacob's the most stable character in the Game and it's a shame that he's hated for not being a whiner (Garrus) or worshipping the ground Shepard walks on (Various characters) Oh and him actually letting Shepard vent her problems instead of dumping them on her (also Various Characters) Oh and he has a mind of his own and dumps Femshep should she try to go into "Fix him" mode that works with Garrus and Thane, but won't with Mr. Taylor.
