I hate that man with a driving passion. Really, I don't even talk to him on the Normandy because it's so uncomfortable. I'm open to changing my opinion on him if they actually develop him in ME3, but as of now I would rather leave Jacob back on Aeia (sp?) and let Ronald Taylor take his place.

He's awkward, phony, and to some extent frustrating.

I don't loooove Jacob (well, dose abs, sure) but I like him well enough. I'd like him a lot better if he wasn't working for Cerberus. Pretty much the only thing that keeps me from respecting him completely is the fact that he bought the Illusive Man's rhetoric. You're a decent guy Jacob, but your boss is a terrorist—end of story. Now, if you come work for me and help me take his terrorist ass out, then you're my kind of man, Mr. Taylor.

He simply started to annoy me over time, because I don't care much for the way he talks and he is practically in every cutscene after recruitment missions with his opinion, so its hard to ignore him. (I want full crew mission briefings back and not just a select few!)
Other than that, I have nothing against him, but it is fact, that he is the only one I never felt sorry, when I ran out of dialogue options.

I think a big part of the reason people dislike him is because of his combat effectiveness. I remember being disappointed when TIM said that Jacob was "one of the best soldiers" plus a biotic, and then found his shotgun lackluster (honestly all shotgun squadmates are bad) and his pistol ridiculous for someone who was an alliance marine. Fortunately i own ME2 on PC so i was able to give him assault rifles and after that he grew on me because he is now a lot more useful, specially once you respec him to remove his barrier power. Jack is another squadmate which was supposed to be the "ultimate human biotic" and ended up having a very poor perfomance, worse than Jacob in my opinion.

That's prett ymuch what's gonna happen. He says it himself "My work with Cerberus is conditional. As long as they're fighting the good fight I'm on board" That's pretty much what Shepard is supposed to be like as well, since they are the only one's fighting the collectors.

Jacob does have a personality. It's just harder to get to know him than other members of the crew. And that is why he's one of my favorites. He's guarded and professional, which makes it that much better when you get the dialog about spilling drinks on the citadel.

He's the only sane man. He's going to come across as a bit dull compared to the other squadmates. Taking him on missions helps (turns out he can be a bit of a snarker) but he's one of the worst in combat.

I kind of had the same problem with a lot of the squad mates, the combat AI for your squad is TERRIBLE in ME2. In ME1, if you have your squad spec'd so that they can use their abilities offensively and the 'squad assist' is high, you almost don't have to do anything when playing on Casual. Not so ME2. Miranda will go rushing out of cover, Garrus will get in close, there's just no rhyme or reason as to why the squad behaves the way they do. You have to micromanage EVERYTHING—even on Casual. SO do not want. And yeah, taking away Jacob's Barrier power is a must, even I do that. I also take away Miranda's Slam power, pretty much any time she's busting out with that, she SHOULD be using Warp instead. The only squadmates I take with me after Illium are Samara and Thane, no one else comes close to their combat effectiveness in my book. But combat effectiveness isn't the reason I like or dislike characters. Thane is a beast in combat, but I find the character to be rather meh. Samara is great in combat, and is a great character, but her combat effectiveness isn't the reason I like her. Mordin is one of the squishiest squad members, but he is second only to Samara on my list of ME2 favorite squadmates.

I have a much bigger problem with Jacob's tactical advice in cutscenes though. Pretty much everything he says after you go through the Omega 4 Relay has to be ignored if you want to get the best result. As a soldier who has served in the Alliance, the Corsairs AND Cerberus, he SHOULD be the one giving you the best advice. Miranda gives some bonehead advice in those circumstances too, but she's not touted as a military badass.

That said though, I still like Jacob just fine. I hope his character gets some real redemption in ME3.

The way I see it, Jacob is disliked because he's the only normal squad member with no remarkablilities whatsoever. If you think about it, just about every other squadmate has "something" that, should I say, defines them. But Jacob has himself and only himself.

I really hope that in ME3, Jacob is the one who ends the Illusive Man's life. I know a lot of people want Shepard to do it, but I think Jacob deserves his moment, and TIM isn't the "Big Bad" of ME3...I don't think he is, anyway.

I like everybody, including Jacob. He's a cool guy, the kind that keeps a level head, speaks his mind, and doesn't dump his problems on everybody else. I hope to see him again in ME3--he's got a lot of potential as a character.

The brother needs to pick up some armor and an assault rifle, though. Spandex and shotguns just don't cut it.

Pretty much this. I wouldn't mind seeing him rejoin the corsairs. And return to being a sentinel.

Jacob actually makes for a great support character if you're an Adept or Sentinel. The big problem is the devs decided to give him a Pistol instead of an Assault Rifle.

He's too self righteous for a Cerberus member. And it annoys me that Shepard can't call him out on his Alliance bashing.

Shepard can't, it all happened when they died. They weren't ther for the alliance backslide and denouncing everyone calling her a crazy person and mentaly unstable. Joker and other crew memebers even bash the alliance, hell Joker even says the team was disbanded! meaning forcefully broken up. How are you gonna call someone on things tht really happened?Posted Image
