i'v already said this somewhere else but i'll repete "well i think that da2 was a success it has enabled the others teams to push the boundries of gaming futher for example with the  bi romance, they are now doing that in me3. it also has set the scene for da3 which like it or not da:o didn't really set the scene for a 2nd. yes da2 has problems tell me a game that hasnt?"

BioWare already had other games that did that, so they didn't need DA2 to establish that precedent.  DAO had bi romance options.

yes but it didnt really push the bar like da2 did tho. it certianly helped having that option in both games tho but my point still stands

Well, The Temple of Elemental Evil released in 2003 had bi romances - even gay marriage. Did DA2 pushed it any further ?

mass effect 3 is going to be having gay romance so um yes? da:o da2 both have it but we're getting off topic da2 was a big middle finger to all the homophobes out there so it was a success.

DA:O was my favorite, DA2 is on my black list.

The only game I actually want to play anymore is ME:3, but I will wait 3-4 months before buying it, depending on what people say about it. If it's not good enough I'll just skip it and delete my account here, there's no reason to hang around here if I dont want to play any of their games.

I rank the non Bioware Made, incomplete and buggy KOTOR II over DA2.
No joke, even tho the ending didn't exist on the XBOX version, the first 90% of KOTOR II is better than all of DA2 by a lot IMO. I could outfit my companions and choose what weapons they should use.

I would agree, and I didn't really like KotOR2.  I disliked how the influence system worked, and I thought the plot (both versions) was hackneyed.  But the gameplay of KotOR2 was fun.  The level design was clearly superior.  And the combat system made sense within the game's setting.

I think KotOR2, a game I didn't even really enjoy, is clearly better than DA2.

Totally agree, but this isn't surprising... in fact, many of Obsidian's titles are diamonds in the rough that would easily rival Bioware's titles - and even best many of them if it weren't for their unpolished and buggy execution. Obsidian have some of the best writers in the biz, and imo, they write better characters than Bioware do...

It's kind of a revolving door of favorites for me, because my list changes depending on my current mood.  But generally, it kind of goes like this:

1- KoTOR (what can I say, it's not their best game, but I'm a Star Wars nerd)
2a- Dragon Age Origins
2b- Mass Effect 2
2c- Mass Effect 1
(gap)
5a- Baldurs Gate
5b- Baldurs Gate 2
7- Dragon Age 2
(gap)
8- Neverwinter Nights
9- Jade Empire

Never played Shattered Steel, MDK, or Sonic Chronicles, so I didn't list them.

KotOR 2 was originally contracted to be developed in 18 months, then after 9-10 months, LucasArts pulled the plug on 6 months of development time because they wanted a Christmas release.

The game simply wasn't finished when it was released.  There is a truckload of content and even an extra planet that didn't make it into the game. There's the restoration mod if you're willing to play the game over again, because Obsidian left the files on the disk, but didn't finish them and put them into the game. They also wanted to patch it in post release but LucasArts slapped them down. Lol.

In the end, it got 11 months of development.

So really, if you're saying that KotOR 2 > Dragon Age 2, that's really damning.

KotOR 2 was technically very similar to KotOR, so it's not like Obsidian had to build a brand new game from the ground up.

It's the part of KotOR 2 that was the same as KotOR - the combat - that I think places the game so clearly ahead of DA2.

I liked the story in KotOR 2 though. I find it weird that you'd call it's story hackeneyed yet not say a word about KotOR 1's story. If anything, it set itself apart as very unique from the Star Wars universe. It's not a typical light/dark moralistic stance, it was about the nature of the Force itself and how it affects different people. I felt that the rushjob really hurt it though. It's probably missing a quarter of it's narrative depth out of the box.

It is easy to miss most of KotOR2's story. If you don't gain enough influence with Kreia, you never find out what's going on. And I never did gain much influence with Kreia (or anyone - that influence system never made much sense to me).

I don't think KotOR's story was one of light/dark moralism. I think KotOR's story was about the fundamental nature of identity. Are you who you think you are, or are you the person your past defines you as?

Don't see how that can be the case since the question of identity doesn't come up until 3/4 of the game is done when we've already forged and established an identity, prior to that we're John/Jane Doe (Minus a few hints here and there that an astute person may have pieced together) who happens to be able to use the force and are simply forging our characters how we want. I'm with Crusty, it was more a story of moralism and the battle of good and evil then anything else.
