Do I need to keep all of the Squad Members updated on equipment, or just my primary 2?

I am playing through the campaign, and have done the therum, noveria, & Feros missions.  I am doing missions (side quests) to gain some levels (will do virmire after that), and am using only Liara & Tali.  Do I need to keep the others updated qith their equipment, or will I be able to play the rest of the game using only those 2 characters?

yeah its a waste equiping squadmates if your not gonna use them, so just equip the people you expect to use the most.

Unless of course, you're planning on replaying the same character. Equipment will carry over to an ng+.

Equipment carries over to a New Game+, so it's recommended if you intend to recycle the same character a lot.
Note that if you Shep can't equip Omni-Tools and/or Bio-Amps then whichever (or both) that you cannot equip is NOT carried over. So a Vanguard will carry over all squadmate amps but no tools (however, any tools unequipped in your inventory ARE carried over, so I personally aim to collect 4 extra Savant X tools and keep them in my inventory)

Also, note that at some point you will need to pick two alien squadmates during the Virmire mission, so if you have Ash and/or Kaidan, you need to prepare by equipping two aliens.
You will hand over one human at the first of the on-foot parts mission, and then have to split up from the other later on.

It's also possible to not be able to pick Wrex once you get to Virmire, by the way... I won't spoil with details, but be prepared for that, too. Just in case.

on virmire i kept rex did up grade on xbox. have not on pc.
