Since I hate that there is a limit of guns for each classes and soldiers get the best selection do they own insanity?

IMHO Soldiers don't "own" insanity because they can have virtually any gun out there. A gun for every situation combined with Adrenalin Rush [time diolation] is where they are full of win.

Note:  A solier is probably a good choice if you're not too familiar with how to use biotic or tech powers well.  IMHO the learning curve for this class is pretty shallow so you can get to be pretty good quickly.  Other classes [like a Vanguard] may clear levels more efficiently but the learning curves with those other classes are usually much steeper than a basic Soldier.

I love sentinels so much but I hate SMG's and Heavy Pistols it has really broken my heart (thanks bioware) so I might start a play through with an adept or a soldier what do you think may be easier?

On Insanity with a first run-through or two I would think a Soldier would be easier. If you happen to have the Firepower Pack DLC I believe it has the ultimate ME2 Assualt Rifle for a soldier ... the Mattock.

IIRC there are modding threads running around the forum. You may want to see if you can mod your sentinel to have the weapons you prefer. This seems like it may make you happier.

Soldiers are the most straightforward class, so they'll have the most straightforward time on Insanity. Whether that's all it takes to 'own' a difficulty mode, I'll leave that to you. I personally don't like to look at it that way.

I did look at some mods and if someone would hold my hand (babysat me lol) with instructions on how to get a shotgun for the sentinel I would be one happy person I did read some but they seemed to hard.

Soldier is the most straight forward class to play and therefore among the easiest. Having only one (super) power and squadmates play no major part in combat performance can be fun. But I prefer using more powers (including squadmates') and teamwork, Adepts are powerful on Insanity too, but require a little more practice and experimentation to get the most out of their powers. Biotics are very visually rewarding, it's great to toss your enemies around.

P.S. If you're playing on pc it's easy to change the weapon loadout of each class. So you can add shotguns or assault rifles to the Sentinel's starting weapon loadout - for example.

Any information on how to do this? I would be so happy if I could use the geth plasma shotgun on my sentinel.

Here's the link

You need Notepad++ and the ini-fixer. Open the coalesced.ini file in Notepad++ > look for weapon loadout > you'll find all classes and the weapons they can use. Simply adding shotguns or sniper rifles to a class is all there's to it. Run the ini-fixer to apply the changes and you're set.

You can also use this to remove weapons. I don't use heavy weapons and don't like carrying around a heavy backpack which isn't going to be used anyway.

You can make a Sentinel with an assault rifle, a sniper rifle and a shotgun only - no HP, HW or SMG; remember you also get the option to select an unique weapon on the Collector Ship. Thus a (modified) Sentinel who can use sniper rifles from the start can select the Widow on Collector Ship :)

Actually in the updated version of gibbed you can change Shepard's loadout very easily. Just open the save file that you want to modify. Go to the Skills/Upgrades tab. And modify your load out in the Weapons - Bonus section. It's easier than it sounds. After you've downlaoded gibbed it should take all but 2 minutes.

Played right, soldiers have fairly high survivability on Insanity; the same can be said of every class, but soldiers do seem to have it the easiest.

The reason I loved my soldier was that because I was forced to use the right weapons for every situation (lest I run out of ammo), I learned how to use every weapon in my arsenal at their optimal ranges, then learned how to maneuver my Shepard into range for better weapons and positioning.  Once I got the hang of that, I started applying what I had learned from my soldier to other classes.

All the classes get pretty easy if you know how to play em. I'd say the Soldier or Sentinel are the most forgiving. I'd rate Vanguard up there too (6second shield replenish is pretty boss), but the bugs in this game often kill the Vanguard more than the actual enemies. In terms of power on Insanity I'd rate em like this;

Soldier+Mattock
Assault Sentinel + GPS
Vanguard

While everything else is pretty equal, but those three are on a tier of their own. Disclaimer the Vanguard has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get use to playing Vanguard it becomes obscene at the rate and ease you can kill things.

^ What strive said. But let's be honest here. No class can really compare to Assault Sentinel + GPS + Energy Drain. It's in a league of its own.

I am kind of suprised about the ED on a Sentinel. One of the nicer things about the Sentinel is the exploding Tech Armor. I actually prefer Overload, but to each it's own. I actually love the Flashbang on a Sentinel.

If Tech Armor is up 100%, press Area Drain you get a 160 bonus to your shield for each enemy you hit, so before they're even aware you've gotten 160 more shield power at the bare min.

So you can turn a 600 shield into a near 1000 one with a well placed Area Drain even before they've returned fire.

A CQC Sentinel has to run to his enemies and Tech Armor goes down too quickly to make it there, often forcing a refresh and locking down your cd. ED is used to keep Tech Armor on until you're within SG range, at which point you can let it blow off. If you're more of a casting Sentinel, ED isn't necessary, of course, but it's really one of the fastest way to blow through levels with shields or mechs (i.e., 90% of them).

^^^ forcing CQC is a poor strategy. Locust SMG should be your primary weapon until the situation calls for cleaning house with the shotty, IMO.

No. I can do Insanity with all classes. It just requires different strategies for each class. I find Sentinels and Infiltrators easier to do Insanity runs with, rather than Soliders.

Personally I find Soldiers to be easy for Insanity (Especially on ME2) if you level up correctly and choose a good specialized power.

Viper/Incisor Sniper + Heightened Adrenaline Rush + Ammo upgrade can easily take down Harbinger effortlessly

You could always take assault rifle training for the Sentinel on the collector ship.

As for which class is "best", the answer to that is to choose the class you are best with.  Some people, for example, find even Insanity difficulty to be trivial with an infiltrator, but you couldn't pay me to play an infiltrator.

My personal favorites for insanity is either Assault Rifle Sentinel, Sniper Rifle Sentinel, Revenant Soldier, or Widow/Mattock soldier.

Sentinel is appealing since Tech Armor is not only great in general, it also restores your shields if they're down.  When I play as a Soldier, I have to use my bonus power slot for Geth Shield Boost or Barrier to get a power that will recharge my shields.  With Sentinel, it comes included.  Assault rifles are the most multi purpose weapons in the game, so they're always a good choice for the Sentinel on the collector ship.  Until you get assault rifle training, however, I would strongly suggest you do Kasumi's mission as early as possible and use the Locust SMG you find on her mission.  It has low magazine capacity, but high accuracy.  I think you will prefer it to the other SMGs.  Sniper Rifle Sentinel is fun with the Viper.  The Viper, being semi automatic, can function as both a sniper rifle and a battle rifle.  The scope can also be used to target your powers on enemies further away than you normally could.

Widow/Mattock is a solid combination.  The Mattock is an excellent rifle if you're a decent shot.  Under heighted adrenaline rush, the Widow is a seriously devastating weapon and becomes a prime choice for killing big nasties like scions, krogan, and harbinger.  Having the Widow is like having an extra weapon that serves as both a sniper rifle and a heavy weapon at the same time.

The Revenant Soldier doesn't look quite as good on paper as the Widow/Mattock soldier, but it has advantages.  First of all, using the Revenant means you never have to worry about having ammo.  The ammo capacity is huge and the ammo pickups are also huge.  With Disruptor ammo, it will tear through any shielded enemy quickly.  Against enemies with barriers (especially collectors), use incendiary ammo on the revenant instead of disruptor and then use your concussive shot and squad powers to disable enemy barriers.  For situations where the range is too long for accurate fire with the Revenant, use the sniper rifle of your choice (I prefer the Mantis, but any of them will work fine).  The Revenant can be used to lay down withering suppressive fire and keep enemies heads down for longer.  With incendiary ammo, it will eat armored enemies like scions and krogan for breakfast.  With the Revenant, you will be out of cover a lot more than with the Widow/Mattock set up, so you will get shot a lot more.  I take 1 point in Geth Shield Boost as my bonus power so I can recharge my shields instantly when I need it.
