I was wondering what is generally considered the best configurations for squad members and various Shepards and squad builds.
What armors are best for what characters (including cheat armors)? What mods on those armors? And why are these the best?
What weapons are best for what characters? What mods on those weapons? And why are these the best?
Same for each of Shepard's classes and play-styles.
Any advice or opinion (aside from mangiraffedog's) is welcome.
Best mods, weapons, armors for ME1 characters?

For armor: The best armor you can get normally is a set of Colossus X at the appropriate weight and species for each squadmate. The mods are up to you, but most people seem to prefer at least 1 Med Exoskeleton for the health regeneration and the MASSIVE power cooldown bonus. I usually just slot 2 of those on most of my setups, but the physics resistance mods are also useful.
For weapons: Spectre X weapons are the best. What you slot them with is up to you.
Most people will use a combination of Shredder and Tungsten VII ammo as they give the biggest damage bonus but only against the right kind of enemy (organic vs synthetic). Simply switch the ammo you're using depending on what you're shooting at.
Inferno X is also valid and does a decent amount of bonus damage while hindering the enemy.
For mods, a mixture of Frictionless Material X, Scram Rail X or Rail Extension VII's are the best. Try different combos to see which works for you.
Some unorthodox weapon set ups use High Explosive Rounds X + 2 Rail Extensions which turns your gun into a grenade launcher but overheats in only a few shots. A set up I like is to use a gun that you don't have training in (Ex: Shotgun on an Infiltrator) and put 2 Combat Scanner X's in to boost the accuracy to usable levels. Being that the damage would suck from such a gun, I put Sledgehammer rounds in it and just use it as a "knockdown" weapon against Husks and Creepers. It's saved my butt on a number of occasions. That same set up works very well for Kaiden and Liara being that their Pistol damage is pretty pitiful anyway (neither have the Pistol skill and barely get any damage bonuses).

Thanks for the input but I thought I should probably mention that this isn't for me as I've already played through ME1 a bunch of times. I know what I think is best; I'm trying to find out what the general consensus is amongst other players of what they think is bestOmega-202 wrote...

Generally, what Omega said, is pretty much the consensus. Some people prefer the Armax predator line, but I think DR pretty well trumps shields. Wrex's geth armor is pretty comparable to colossus, and Garrus can to pretty well with medium phantom, though colossus is still the best choice.
As far as ammo tungsten, and shredder are generally the best choice, though I try and keep a selection of the level VII stuff around, as well as a couple of explosive and some sledgehammer. For mods some combination of frictionless, scram rails, rail extensions, and combat scanners. As for which weapon is best for which npc, stick to the ones they are trained in, with the occasional use of shotgun for everybody (I'm talking about Feros, shotgun, plus sledgehammer equals extra crowd control.
For armor mods-- Medical exoskeletons all the way. Sometimes I use the other stuff until I get enough medical exoskeletons, but with 2 medical exoskeleton x's plugged into colossus x armor, you are very hard to stop.

I must say that I'm incredibly impressed with myself.
*pats self on back*
I tend not to read guides or forums on any game until I've played it a dozen times through and decided for myself what is best and worst. And almost universally what I decide on agrees with those 'in the know'. Like in WoW, I end up getting top DPS and then go to EJ to find out that everything I'm doing is already what I should be doing
Ok, enough bragging. I just wanted to confirm my suspicions before writing a guide

for mods I tend to use full Frictionless since the heat dampening effect just outright negates heat (hell put two in all HMS weapons and you have unlimited fire including your assault and never generate any heat). Ammo mods I go with a mixture depending on what my weapons are used for, I generally have shredders on my shot guns seeing that I use them mostly for husks and thorian creepers since it gives a bit of a zombie shooter feel. assault I use a variety of different rounds. Pistol I just modified for anti-shield to help with overall damage (might try doing shredder or tungsten) and sniper I tend to use hammers to just keep the enemy down for the count while I continue to put rounds in them (1-2 shots from a sniper will usually drop em on the ground). armors I tend to go with appropriate Colossus with my humans, Tali, and Liara. Wrex I have Battlemaster and Rage X, and Garrus has Pred M X. All of these armors I tend to have one Med Exo and then a Kenetic Exo. Might switch the Kenetic Exo to Combat for hardcore and insane but I might just stay with the Kenetic.
