Well, I tried to locate a mage guide, with no success :-(

Basically, I just started a few hours back, as a mage. Done the harrowing, done the whole helping-the-blood-mage thing. Even used a walk though, added Coercion, kept the staff. Decided to try again without wasting(?) that point on coercion, didn't get to keep the staff. Not sure what to do even now, and I'm just level 3 (without having spent any of the level 3 points yet). I'm assuming the staff is worthless anyway so Coercion would be a waste, but that doesn't change the fact that I have no clue what to raise. I actually had the same problem on character creation and lvl 2 already --- either way, raising typical mage stats seemed safe, heal doesn't usually hurt, combat tactics looked like a good passive, and offensive spells are always useful for a mage so I don't have to heal my opponents to death. But in the long run, this isn't going to cut it.

Thing is, I didn't find any information anywhere. Attributes, Skills, Spells; all I can do is make random decisions with no idea how good or bad it'll turn out in the end.

Given that manuals seem to be uncool nowadays (I got like what, 10 tiny pages?), are there any useful sites on the web, somewhere? Descriptions of builds that "just work"? Heck, I even have an armor that requires 38 strength, and no idea whether I'm even meant to raise strength, or whether that thing is just there so I can sell it to the first store I reach.

First tip: put everything into magic and boost health and mana with gear. Magic boosts your spellpower and that makes your spells more powerful and less likely to get resisted. You can never have enough spellpower.  As long as your tank is the one taking the hits, it won't matter how much (or little) health your mage has.  It also helps to stay mobile, and mages have many talents which help with survivability (arcane shield, rock armor, glyphs, arcane warrior spec., etc).

Coercion is useful. I always try to max it out at some point, along with combat training with all of my characters, though a mage will do fine with just the first two tiers (combat training). The other skills depend on class type. Herbalism couldn't hurt with a mage as you could make lyrium potions for yourself. I'd avoid combat tactics as my characters usually have plenty of tactics slots for what I need, and if you are controlling a character, usually your warden, their tactics don't apply since you are actively controlling them.

For some sites, try:

A mage is a pretty easy class to build. Yes, boost Magic primarily, but you could also drop a few points into willpower if you find yourself running through mana too quickly (some people prefer to just rely on using potions instead though).
As for spells, there's a lot of choice, but it's fairly hard to pick 'bad' spells. The spells in a tree get more powerful as they go along, so it's better to choose a tree to build rather than take a lot of first-tier spells. And it's often good to give your mage a role (direct damager, crowd controller, healer/buff bot), but don't feel you have to stick to that devotedly. Other than that, just pick spells that appeal and enjoy.

It all depends on what type of mage you want to become. So many ways to build one.
