 I'm just about to start Ilos  and was wandering if it matters who i take ?    like dose it affect mass effect 2 in any way ?    I like how on Virmire your whole team was part of the story, is it like that ?    without spoilers please !

Take Liara. Ilos is the homeplanet to the Protheans so she's a good choice.

I'd say bring Liara, as Ilos and the protheans are obviously very important to her. The other choice is more personal preference. But no, it doesn't have any long-term repercussions either way.

Whoever you choose on Ilos accompanies you for the entire rest of the game, so IMO choose whichever two characters are your favorites, or whichever characters you have the strongest emotional attachment too, since they'll be in all the cutscenes from here on out.

No, it doesn't effect ME2 at all but you're gonna be with those people for a while and if you aren't an Adept you're gunna want Liara and you're definitely gunna want Tali (more important) or Garrus. Liara has some interesting dialog.

Here's who you shoudl take with you.

Liara. B/c of her expertise on the protheans you'll get some unique dialog from her.

Garrus or Wrex. Garrus wanted from the very beginning take him down. He feels disgrace when Saren is a Turian, so you give Garrus a chance to cleanse their reputation.
Or Wrex. He hates Saren from the experience on Virmire, and he tells you to have him with you when you finally get to him.

When fighting geth Garrus and Tali are ridicously effective. But of course it's always fun to include Wrex just for his charm.

From a pure gameplay perspective, bring Ash (if you saved her) and Wrex/Garrus. Hand them SpecTRe grade rifles, powers are pretty much redundant.

And no, you pretty much just take your squad like any old side mission. The cool part is Joker. My, my won't you be pleasantly surprised.

In answer to your actual question: no, it does not matter who you take.

As others have mentioned, however, it does matter from the standpoint that you will be stuck with them from that moment forward until the end of the game. You will also be facing little more than geth (there are a couple of krogan but by that, I mean literally about two or three) so it pays to take Tali, Garrus or Kaidan.

Honestly, though, if you've explored the entire game and gotten to 52nd-53rd level and you have all X mods, spectre weapons and colossus armors, then quite frankly you could solo the entire thing on hardcore so it doesn't truly matter who you take.

When Saren dies, it makes sense for one of those two go shoot him in the head as a precaution. I can't see Tali, Liara, or Garrus doing that.

If you have Kaiden, then bring Wrex and Liara or Garrus.

How can you not see Garrus doing that? He has a good reason to hate Saren. What with betraying his species and all, and Turian sense of unity.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. I guess that, as an Agent, he wouldn't waste a bullet on a corpse (which he obviously does anyways), while Ash or Wrex (who I consider to be completely ruthless no matter if they're Paragon or Renegade) would shoot him regardless, probably out of spite.

Liara is the only one, as far as I remember, that will mention that you should download something from Vigil (I forgot what it was). So, it's a good thing to have her around, but it doesn't have any type of impact on ME2.

Take Liara for the special dialogue she has on Illos and whoever is your LI or best bud in the game. It'll have a stronger emotional impact, but no bearing on ME2.

If I'm playing anything but a soldier I take Wrex and Garrus for maximum smackdown potential.

Other then Liara for some possible extra Ilos dialog.. go whom you like having on the team. At that point, 95% of your enemies are going to be Geth.

use: Kaidan (IF ALIVE YOU HATERS!!!) and Wrex
