I think it's also worth to note that Avelines DLC ring "The Guardian's Weighted Backhander" has also immunity to critical hits.

Bartrand ignores critical hit immunity and has a damage of about 250, so 290 seems perfect for a Reaver to me, at least in this particular fight.

Thanks a lot for this awesome thread, mr_afk ! :)

I found an interesting post made by Bioware about the next patch :

Assassins are being slightly nerfed in both their health and the damage threshold it takes to break their stealth in the next patch.

A quick note on assassins though - when they are doing the smoke bomb or backflip animation they are invulnerable (much like mage's teleport). Also, the backstab/stealth has a cooldown it's just incredibly short on Nightmare. My strategy is usually just load up on fire resist (or electric if you're in act 2) and just unleash hell with Rain of Fire (or Thunderstorm); once they pop out, petrify and focus fire... and if you have Black Emporium, the dog is the best assassin bait in the game (and it's immune to fire!)[/quote]

I have yet to see a tempest actually unstealthing an assassin.

Yeah, same. I don't think it's possible...
And I'm not sure if Luke actually used that tempest strategy as he also suggests loading up electrical resist when we all know that there isn't any friendly fire.

Maybe that lack of friendly fire prevents stealthed enemies from been targeted by tempest...though chain lightning works so I'm not sure what the deal is with that. So maybe enemies do get targeted and damaged but it doesn't deal enough damage/force to knock them out of stealth. I might test out tempest on the next raider assassins/shadow assassins I come across.
Only problem is that despite the double damage (from elemental weakness) they have such large health bars I doubt it will inflict any force effects. So maybe once the patch comes out tempest will work?

maybe Luke is already using the patch, he didn't say by how much the assassins health will be reduced... and maybe tempest gets improved, more damage but with ff now?

I doubt that they'd give Tempest FF, since the main draw of the Primal tree is it being scrub friendly friendly fire safe.

The only issue I have with Assassins is their retarded invincibility frames entering stealth, I think that's incredibly stupid. Other than that, they're fine how they are.

@Arelex I think it's actually possible to stop an assassin from stealthing mid-flip (so they're not completely invulnerable.) It's pretty hard/unreliable though as it involves inflicting a stun on them.. not sure if any other statuses work. I've only done it once or twice by casting a paralysing haemorrhage. Not sure what else might work (maybe miasmic flask?)

But yeah, I agree. The only thing that makes an enemy annoying is if it is invincible - otherwise it just becomes a challenge = fun.
----------------------

Anyway, I've updated the OP. I think it's just about done.

I think I might post up a video tutorial demonstrating how to do all the possible mage/S&S ones and maybe figure out an early game guide if I can work up the motivation.

Tell me if there's anything else which I've missed/could be helpful for people facing issues with assassins. :)

Assassins dont steal elfroot potions as far as i know.(but still have at least one of their own or took some from dead enemies)

But this definetly speed up fights with them.

The most retarded thing is,by the way, that even shadow assassins drink healtpots.(they are corpses, right?)
Why stop there and dont allow rage demons to do the same...

Is thsi confirmed? I know I've been having a much easier time on my 2nd nightmare run now that I don't hoard potions anymore and sell them off ASAP. I guess I should stock elfroot and restoration instead.

Everytime i have to fight brekker and his 4 rogues,i put health potions in the storage chest in my house(and dont loot them on my way to this fight) and make some elfroot potions for emergencies. If they steal those potions, with 5 rogues the chance for that should be very high. But i dont noticed it yet.Would be absurd anyway, because elfroot potions restore 80 percent of the health someone have.Would be nearly impossible to defeat them this way.

I remember reading assassins come with a healthpot of their own as well... Cant confirm it for 100% but i remember... seeing a assassin that was stunned since spawn, got to 20% health and just drank a potion without having backstabbed me

Since lonely assassins dont live much longer then a single stealth cycle, them stealing that one extra potion doesnt matter because theyre dead before they can use it.

Anyway... my newest "problem" mob is the rage demons. Normal assassins seem easy enough but these babys, in certain fights (yes xebenkeck im looking at you) make it near impossible :/ That is. in my current play trough with a glass cannon elemental tank :P

Good point! I normally run around on 0pots (as I sell them off as soon as possible) and additionally, even if I do have any most assassins are locked down and killed before they get a chance to steal/drink anything. But for those who take a little longer, removing their ability to heal via that method should work quite nicely.

But yeah, I think they have one or two pots of their own as they will drink them up even when there's none to steal. They also have a habit of dropping 2 pots if you kill them fast enough, though I don't know if that's related to the amount they carry or just random drop chance.

@Darqion - try cone of cold. That and the dog will be the most reliable. It's supposedly possible to use all the usual tactics etc. but I personally haven't had much luck with it.
Besides the paradoxical nature of 'glass cannon tank', I assume you're referring to the elemental warrior? I'll do the xebenkeck fight soonish with my elemental warrior so will hopefully be able to help you out there.

But if you're staying in the room I would recommend getting a brittle-archer's lance combo + focus fire to kill off the rage demons as fast as possible. Using desdemona's you should be able to kill off xebenkeck off pretty fast, then it simply becomes a matter of surviving the hordes of abominations etc that pop up.

heh, good luck with that. I'm going to attempt a disorient-walking bomb strategy but I'm not sure how well it'll work.

well im technically tanking since i`ll be rushing in to draw initial agro. Archer lance combo, for some reason, seems to do less damage then i remember. It will only drop a rage demon to half health, but i suppose it will have to do. I was planning on respeccing merril into some cold damage, and maybe get a better staff somewhere. Desdemona damage doesnt seem to be ultra special on xeb either, but that might just be because her healthbar is so stupidly high.

Better staves are always nice. Try the reloading trick at the low town trinkets shop - that should allow you to find merrill a nice staff with a larger base dmg and maybe a handy improved bloodmagic property.

Hmm.. and I suppose that's true. My elemental warrior is a beast at tanking in that regards. Everyone seems to try and attack her - and most never land a blow (get horror'd by my autoattacks and killed a second after). heh, it's so overpowered it's funny. Gotta love dlc.

I've confirmed that you can unstealth silent sisters via tempest. It seems that assassins do get still hit by the tempest but probably don't get hit with enough force to knock them out of stealth.

It's not really very practical though - as no matter how much +%electricity you have, it's only dealing 0.66xbase damage with x2 elemental force so is almost never going to be enough to destealth the assassins that actually can cause damage.

But maybe if the next patch completely destroys their health, non-elite assassins (if they even exist) may be destealthed via tempests?

Aside from the one elite in the house, the silent sisters not even seem to use backstab.
