lol make your own love interest huh? Sounds like you want an ancient Greek story, where people are making women out of clay. I don't think either is more fitting than the other, nothing about this story makes me think "a guy would have been better here instead of a woman" or vice versa.

Snarky Garret Hawke seems like the "real" Hawke to me. He's such a dick, I love it.

When I play Marian Hawke, I like to play her authoritarian. I like her, too, but when I think of Hawke I just think of snarky man!Hawke. Maybe because the male Hawke is used in all the trailers and stuff. I love Marian's design, though, but I think Garrett's voice acting was stronger than Marian's, personally.

I think Boulton probably does a better aggressive voice, but I prefer Lady Hawke's sarcasm if only because I can step out of it and be diplomatic or aggressive if I want and not be as jarred by the difference as I am when male Hawke switches between tacts.

Although I prefer to play women whenever I can, I was hoping I'd be able to play a male Hawke. Aimo's Akiva Hawke has made me want to woo Fenris with a male mage, but I just can't make the voice and the rp fit.

(I loathe that ALL the ads are male Hawke. I loathe that male Hawke is my background to these forums right now, as if Lady Hawke doesn't exist.)

My first play through I went with the Lady Hawke. It was great but then I tried Man!Hawke, and I've never looked back. M!Hawke wins hands down. You can't beat his "Festooned with ruffles!" line. Lady Hawke never stood a chance.

I know this was posted ages ago, but this is exactly my experience. My first playthrough was with a sarcastic LadyHawke, and I thought she was pretty good, if a little too saccharine sounding. Then I was Trollface ManHawke Mage and he stole the show and I have a hard time playing LadyHawke now. I do like her aggressive deliveries better, because she sounds like a hardass rather than like a douche, which makes it so I will actually finish a playthrough as a RedHawke (my other attempts I've always slid into PurpleHawke, because while Purple ManHawke is still a douche, he's a tactless, amusing douche instead of a jerk douche).

I definitely prefer ManHawke & Carver to LadyHawke & Carver. They have a better sibling chemistry somehow.

Both Hawkes blow both Shepards out of the water, though. In my opinion, anyway.

For me they're both excellent, though I find they hve different strengths. I prefer the experience of LadyHawke overall because I feel more able to switch personality-lines on the fly and have it sound natural (and I generally don't like playing with a fixed personality start to finish). I like that she can sound compassionate, snarky or authoritative depending on the situation and it isn't jarring. M!Hawke sounds too different between voice style for me to do that. As a few have pointed out, though, Snarky!M!Hawke is an awesome queen.

Loved them both, although I long suspected I would like Ladyhawke, Boulton was a revelation as M!Hawke however.

Well one situation I would say a Fem Hawke seemed better for it was The Long Road, when you use the romance options. I haven't done that with a male character yet, but if the dialogue is the same, then it would come better from a female character.

Male Hawke Voice Actor is HORRIBLE. I can't stand to play as him as he just doesn't flow well. Female Hawke just seems to fit better in every way, sincere, sarcastic, forceful. All easier to connect with. And I almost NEVER play as female characters. But in both Mass Effect 2 and DA 2 the female voice acting is leaps and bounds ahead of the males.

I love both of them. But I would choose M!Hawke as the better all round performance.

I strongly preferred malehawke. I don't think either one is inherently better, since they're the same person, uttering the same lines, and doing the same quests regardless. I chose malehawke because I like romancing Merrill in a non-gay way, and I like his snark delivery better.

The snark line when talking to the harbor master's assistant is great.  The assistant suggested a bribe.  MaleHawke:

"I can't imagine what you might mean."  It was perfect delivery.

I also preferred malehawke's voice acting in general.  Not that femhawke's acting wasn't good.  Just a personal preference.

OMG, I lol'd when I read that.

I'm having a hard time not seeing default malehawke with the big trollface smile going "problem?"

That is hilarious

I'm a lot more attached to my male Hawkes, which is the opposite to DAO where I'm more attached to my female wardens. I don't think either Hawke is inherently better suited to DA2, though.

I found both VAs to be equally great, (a first for me, always preferred female VA) but in the end went with lady Hawke since I preferred the male LI but am also a straight male (nothing wrong with being homosexual, I'm just not)

I'd say that I consider both genders equally suited, but I consider the sarcastic Hawke's as being the utterly bonkers, utterly true, iteration of Hawke.

I think they're equally suited and it boils down to a matter of preference. Personally, I prefer Male Hawke. Love Nicholas Boulton's delivery. Female Hawke was good too, but I found her VA somewhat stilted in a places.

My first playthrough was as a Male Hawke, and I think that might have something to do with it. I became attached.

This is a weird question... I only play as males myself, but I could see this working with a female Hawke... pretty much like any game that offers male and female PCs... as Yes Man would say, "It's whatever you wanna do."

Both DA and ME have such compelling and well made female versions of the protagonists, I started playing male in both games, now I play purely female, will most likely continue in the future ME/DA games.

Mage FemHawke and Warrior/Rogue MaleHawke for me.

Since I only have a brother in real life I prefer the sister/brother combination. Plus it's always funny to see lil Carver as mister grumpy pants over his big sister actions *pinches his cheeks*

Lady Hawke, hands down. Whether she be diplomatic/helpful, snarky/charmer or direct and aggressive, FemHawke was much more preferable to my tastes. Although I have to give diplomatic Male Hawke his credit also.

Male!Hawke was better at being snarky. Female!Hawke was better at being diplomatic, I think they're tied at agressive.

I don't know why but in Mass Effect I like playing renegade femsheps, but in DA2 I like playing diplomatic male Hawkes.

I thought both actors did superb with all personalities. Female Hawke did do the best with her diplomatic options though I think.

I place for me to vent my opinion? *rubs hands together gleefully*

In Mass Effect I'm all Femshep All Day Every Day (I have a few mSheps, for science, but my 'canon' is femshep) and when DA2 first bought out pictures of Lady Hawke I was ready for another Lady Hero. Then I heard her voice. I hated it. I still hate it, though to a lesser extent then I used to.
I hate that it's breathy, posh and nasal and talks at the front of her mouth, if that makes any sense. I just don't like it. I also find Lady Hawke's delivery of the purple lines clumsy or stiff most of the time and I had to avoid those responses like the plague.
So when I started my 'real' playthrough I switched to m!Hawke and I gotta say I love Boulton's performance and he delivers the purple lines just about flawlessly with the right dry sarcasm or self-mocking. So for me Male Hawke wins out for my 'canon'

Recently though I found a way that makes me like Lady Hawke: playing aggressive. Her voice looses the breathy quality that I don't like and she sounds fierce. Playing it like that the bad delivery of the purple lines comes across as my aggressive Lady just failing horribly when she tries to be anything other then a direct-hard-ass, which is kinda cute to me.
One day I'll finish a play through with Lady Hawke... one day when I can resist the allure of m!Hawke and Nicholas Boulton's voice.
