Or am I missing a button somewhere?

Also, what are the ethnic/linguistic influences on the three races?  I think Ferelden humans are derived from British/Celtic-ish or such...  What about the others?

Dwarves are more Aztec/Myan in their architecture at least.

Gaelic will do nicely for Ferelden names, although feasibly you might have a character with a more "French" name due to the Orlais occupation (depending on background, naturally). Dwarven names probably aren't the usual I imagine, and so D1gital-ZERO might have a point- they could be quite wierd indeed.

Edit: It occurs to me Elven names would likely be the most fantastical. Although City Elves would pick up Fereldan influences, Dalish Elves...probably apostrophes, not too harsh a sound, etc. Perhaps the codex might have some useful influences.

I find it kinda strange that you cannot set your own surname for the character.. For human its always Amell, I hope this is not the case in the full version of a game...

As for the random name generator, I don't mind it, I always have lots of ideas when it comes to names.

Surnames are fixed so that the NPC voiceovers can refer to you by name. Each origin has its own last name.

Oh bummer... I'd rather have the NWN solution to this problem, but I'll live with Amell too.

I wish there was a name generator because I have such a difficulty of naming characters. I tend to reuse the same names over and over again. I guess that works for humans but I cannot seem to come up with elven sounding names.

No, you can't change your surname. You're a specific person depending on your origins and you get your family name.

Here are some websites I use when I'm trying to get some ideas for a character's name: http://www.behindthename.com/
http://www.lowchensa...antasylinks.htm

I wish I could create my own character name on my own without looking at anything. What usually happens for me is that I end up naming my character after a character in a book/game/anime; usually not intentionally (I just pick the first thing that comes to mind). For example, one of my WoW characters I named after a Magic the Gathering guild name; another character I named after a character in a book, though with a slight change in the spelling of the name.
