EDIT:  The original post dealt with the supposed fact that there would be no new love interests in ME3.  Casey Hudson has confirmed in his Twitter feed, however, that there had been changes in development since the interview and that there were actually same sex love interests for both male and female characters.

Happy to confirm #ME3 supports wider options for love interests incl. same-sex for m&f chars,
reactive to how you interact w/them in-game.

Casey also confirmed that not all love interests would necessarily be permanent squad members.

Interesting new things happening in that area.

Thanks go to thatguy212 for pointing out Casey's new confirmations.

Since the topic has changed, here's some new questions.  What do all of you think about the addition of same-sex love interests?  Do you like the fact that in-game romances are no longer limited to party members or are there those of you who could care less about any of the new additions?  Let your thoughts be known!

Original Post:  While talking to PC Gamer, Casey Hudson confirmed that there would be no new love interests in ME3 and that the focus will instead shift to resolving any feelings from previous relationships (unless, of course, you refused to pursue any relationships in the previous games).

In this one, we don’t really have new characters that are part of the romance stuff in the way that we did in Mass Effect 2, where we introduced a lot of characters...But we also have some interesting things happening, where you’ve got Ashley and Kaiden from the first game, you’ve got Liara, and there’s sort of a love triangle there. And then we gave people a bunch of new characters. People said “Well, I just want my Mass Effect 1 characters, and I’m not interested in any of these characters.” But then a lot of people had romances with those characters, and now the fun is bringing back some of those characters from Mass Effect 1 and putting them back in the mix, and looking at what you did in Mass Effect 2 and bringing some… interesting scenarios around those things.

So what do all of you think?  Are you upset that there won't be any new love interests?  Are you happy that more attention will be given to previous love interests?

some of the ones that deserve mentioning are, "Don't believe everything you read in print (or online for that matter)." in response to that article, "Yes, our plans evolve over time, and are guided by your feedback. Interviews are often from earlier stages of development." in regards to info he's saying not making the magazines, and this is the new LI one "Happy to confirm #ME3 supports wider options for love interests incl. same-sex for m&f chars, reactive to how you interact w/them in-game."

they need to be clear on stuff. Who will be permanent squad member and who will not. This is getting frustrating, they keep hyping this game up but give us like nothing new ever. Its almost a year away it makes me sad.

I'm so happy that BioWare is SO ****IN AWESOME.
They ACTUALLY listen to their fanbase, and that's ...so...well, awesome.
I'm just happy I'll be able to have a 2nd playthrough and romance Tali with my FemShep.
AW YEAH!

I wonder if they'll release patches for ME 1 & 2 that will enable this option for future proper imports into ME 2 and then ME 3 :D

I'm fine with it as long as the system allows me to do one of the following

A: Toggle it off
B: Not have me walk on eggshells to keep from hitting on someone.

On a side note, I hope that they establish homosexual/bisexuals, and not make the previous characters retroactively bi. It takes away from the story-telling when people have these rich backgrounds and personalities, yet their sexuality is whatever the user wants it to be.

Jack would make sense being made bi. She hints at it a few times in ME2, in fact I'm surprised that she wasn't a bi LI in the first place.

They don't have to be bi, they are shep-sexual

I really hope they make it clear whether or not you're getting into a romance or not. I found it annoying when I tried to talk to crew members and Shep started hitting on them.

Shep-sexual (Variant of Hawkesexual) is what I DON'T want. I know we all say we have that one person we'd go gay for, but its not really true.

Right, that "rich background and personality" is suddenly rendered moot because they fell for someone of the same gender.

Like when Willow fell for Tara after dating Oz. Those bastards completely ruined her character and destroyed all her unique qualities.

Not the biggest buffy fan so I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not.

[Edit]: I'll cautiously put out there that I think people know if they are gay or not by about the age of.. oh.. lets say 20. With Willow and Tara (I googled it), they are both around the age of still experimenting to see what they like and stuff, so it makes sense.

Kaiden is 32-34ish.
Ashley doesn't peg me as someone who is wishy-washy. Seems kinda traditional imo
I could see Jack, and possibly Tali though.

For all you know Ash and Kaidan have been bisexual from the start and they simply take more time to get into same-sex relationships.

The only problem is that you assumed they were completely straight and then you attached that assumption to the character as part of their "personality".

But even if they did consider themselves straight in ME1 it doesn't mean they can never fall for someone of the same gender.

You can assume that Willow and Tara were "experimenting" or you can accept that people adapt to circumstances and that their presumed sexuality does not define them or dictate their future relationships.

That's what I was thinking, if they are gonna make existing squadmates bisexual, how would it work for those that have already built a relationship from the first two games?
Didn't he say something along the lines of those that import romances will be rewarded?

I can see them making the new squadmates bisexual, but I'm not gonna count the existing one's just yet.

Sexuality, history, and personality really have very little to do with each other. Sure, they all play off one another, but there is no set formula.

Let's say, I don't know, Wrex (for sh*ts and giggles) prefers other men. Does that mean he's not manly as hell? Does that mean you suddenly have to watch your back around him?

Dude, I'm bisexual, and I am most definitely NOT attracted to everyone.

I support the principle of having same sex romance options. I don't support making old romances that weren't same sex romances before suddenly into the same sex now, other than maybe Jack.

No Kaidan and Ashley never stated flat out said they were not BI, but they were obviously not attracted to both Shepards.

You can make up anything really that wasn't explicitly denied. Ashley could have been born a man for all I know, that doesn't mean she should be written that way all of a sudden.

I also think that everyone being Shepardsexual would be kind of silly. Yeah I know it can happen but not to the degree it would need to in ME 3 with everyone around the same person begin attracted to them regardless of orientation. Besides, anyone who didn't romance Shepard in the first two games would already know Shepard, and they obviously weren't Shepardsexual before.

Frankly, if the situations were reversed and Shepard was a guy who could apparently turn lesbians straight, I can't imagine there would be a positive reception to such a notion.

My Jane Shepard might go for Tali if it were possible. She is so cute and her voice acting is so adorable, just like ME1 Liara.
