I'm not against gay or lesbian relationships. I would totally support it if it would be a new character. But established characters turning bi all of a sudden? I thought we would be through with that after the whole "Everyone is bi! HOORAY!" buisness in DA2.

Mmm alrighty then.

It's always did seem a bit odd that there's always been some kind of F/F option in the games. (Although admittedly western society is more tolerant of this.) I mean sure the Asari are "mono-gender" but come on. I just hope they handle this delicately.

I really don't want Garrus or Kaidan all of sudden offering to jump in the sack with my male Shepard just because I say nice things to them. Also it would seem rather odd for both of those two given that we know they are essentially straight (Garrus and his Scout lady-friend, Kaidan's old girlfriend, and Kaidan also even mentions Liara's not bad on the eyes.) So yeah if either one of them all of sudden jumps out of the closet to tell me they're actually Bisexual I'm going to have to raise an eyebrow at that. Although in the case of Jack or Tali this would be more acceptable since we know Jack has before, and Tali seems to have a bit of thing for Female Shepard and she has no prior established preference.

If the new characters turn out to be Bisexual or Homosexual that's fine certainly though.

One thing I might add. It's way too easy to stumble into romances in both ME1 and ME2, especially with Jack since there doen't seem to be much option of simply just talking to her nicely if you're male. Also I think it'd be preferable if Shepard made the first move sometimes, especially in the same-sex romances.

I just want the romance dialogue to be a bit more seperated from the standard dialogue options. Adding some kind of clear "flirtatious" dialogue option on the wheel would be greatly appreciated. Cause hey not all of us want to sleep around with a crewmember every playthrough. And it be nice if we wouldn't have to simply not talk to them or be a douche to them.

I support that.

I went to see a band in a bar a while back. I went to get the drinks because it's easier for me to weave in and out of the crowd than it is for my husband. I stood at the bar, and waited to order drinks. Then this guy, who was totally smashed, is trying to order drinks for me. I say no thank you. He says no, really, I'm going to. Gee, don't you like the band. I bet he couldn't tell you what color my eyes were, either, he didn't make it that far up.

My left hand with my ring was on the bar, and I just kept turning him down. Finally I found it easier to leave. Incidentally, he needed a better wingman, his buddy was cracking up.

I think he was going to come up to me later, too, but I was standing with my husband again by that point and the guy is built like a linebacker. He veered off.

The point is, life is full of things like this. People like you when you don't like them back. You like people and they don't like you back. Just what, exactly, is the big deal about all this? Say no thank you and get on with your freaking day.

I strongly oppose this idea and actually feel offended for the idea of a clearly straight character (like me, for example) suddenly turning into a bisexual one.
Shepard is a straight character, or at least it was, it's an interesting decision to change it on the fly. The first time I see it actually, but well, from ME1 to ME2 the world itself was changed, so whatever.

But pay attention to the development, I really want you guys to avoid the awkard and uncomfortable moments DA1-2 and Jade Empire provided. The majority of players is straight, and some of us feel uncomfortable if someone of the same sex starts hitting on us.
Include it, if that's your big idea to lure more audtion, but do it with consciously. Don't make me feeling uncomfortable for being straight, ok?

DA:O wasn't bad.  Zevran says your handsome. You tell him he's barking up the wrong tree. He leaves you alone. That's the extent of it. Everything else is a choice.

DA2: EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD IS GAY. ALL THE PROSTITUTES ARE GAY MEN. ALL YOUR MALE COMPANIONS ARE GAY. SOMETIMES YOUR CHOICE IS TO BE AN ASS OR FLIRT WITH A DUDE.

I don't think the ME writters will comprimise their characters or the believablity of their fictional world because 1% of the population wants to force their sexuality down the other 99%'s throat. No pun intended.

i totaly agree with you too ...and i will add that Shepard WILL become a mockery  for sure ...internet WILL be full of homoShepards  "romancing" ...very dissapointing  for the last entry in this great game...very dissapointing
the moment when Shepard becomes gay all of the lore of ME will fade and the gayness  will be the main  "story" (don't tell me abount Asari ..they have a very complex backstory for what they are)

and all of this  "because 1% of the population wants to force their sexuality down the other 99%'s throat"

I'm so happy that BioWare is SO ****IN AWESOME.
They ACTUALLY listen to their fanbase, and that's ...so...well, awesome.
I'm just happy I'll be able to have a 2nd playthrough and romance Tali with my FemShep.
AW YEAH!

What makes you think they are going to make everyone gay like DA2? Sounds to me like there will be new characters to pander to gays.

Which makes it a loose-loose situation.

Introduce new characters, just to indulge the homosexual minority => people that favour characters from earlier games that get pushed out feels belittled because their character gets the shaft (the literary one, not the literal one which the new ones will get).

Change old characters, just to indulge the homosexual minority => people that favour the changed characters as how they used to be feels belittled because their character virtually ceases to exists as they had them envisioned.

The "gay" characters will probably be asari for women (nothing new) and a single gay/bi guy for men. Others, like Gianna, will be straight. On second thought I think Liz Baynum is a lesbo. And one of those twins at Flux... definitely bi. If they are coming from previous characters we've already seen.

No matter how they do it, with the info we've gotten so far of overall decisions they are making, someone looses out because of it. Especially because working on that, means they aren't working on something else, like enrichening the lore in general or increasing usage of the variables gathered in meaningfull and consequential ways. :?

Be honest with yourself.  They were never going to give the variables their proper due. Image IPB

Personally, I prefer that there are no gay romances. It's a waste when that conversation could have been used for more general dialog. But, hey, if a minority screams loud enough they get treated like they are a majority. that is the world we live in.

What I'm seeing is a bunch of people with no faith in the Mass Effect dev team. Either that or you're using fake concerns about the potential writing to cover up for just not liking gay people being in game.

Yes yes, that exactly it. Next thing I'm to be called a biggot or worse too, right? <_<

I mean.. That IS the only accepted reason for the vocalists as to why people could oppose it. To hell with concerns of the quality of the story and the lore in it. It HAS to be biggotry, there is no other explanation...

I'll admit I will be very pleased if one of my FemSheps can be with Ashley. <3 I was planning on doing another Paragon run since I have two Renegades and only one Paragon, and this would definitely be something that would push me to keep that Paragon LI free until 3. :D

PS: I see a lot of this "Blah blah blah turning bi" crap and I have to say that some people need to realize that not everyone wears their sexuality on their sleeve and feels the need to dictate it. This could just be a matter of said character not feeling it's important to bring up same sex tendencies, if it's from an already established character.

This is quite the surprise... I never thought this was going to happen...

Until I was 26 I had no idea that I am actually bisexual and then I met a guy, I fell really hard for.
If anyone had told me I was bisexual before that, I would have laughed at them.
My point is, I am living proof that is possible to live as a heterosexual for years and then discover that it is the person you fall in love with and not the genitalia.
I agree however, that it would be a bit unrealistic, if this happened suddenly to all the existing LI's, but it would certainly work for Kaidan *sigh*!

People on this forum who make sense? Surely a sign that the end times are upon us.

This is politically correct pandering to an extremely annoying minority of players who seem to demand everybody know they're gay IRL and in the game's universe.

I hope that 'James Vega/Sanders' is a gay love interest. It would help justify the inclusion of a new character. I don't think there is any need to retcon others to be gay love interests.

I've noticed that this thread has been hit with a fair amount of homophobia. That is very unfortunate.

It was just a matter of time before the vocalists started to use the biggot card against people they disagree with... <_<

Might as well claim there is a certain amount of heterophobia in the thread as well...

Of course there isn't - that would be gay! Retcon-ing heterosexual love interests, on the other hand, is a brilliant idea - how about a heterosexual romance with one of the engineers? </sarcasm>

Also, for the record, a gay option for Shepard does not constitute a retcon since Shepard doesn't ever mention their sexual preference (there is one optional line referring to it)

A feeling is never a choice, but wether to keep it to yourself or to act upon it, is.
The only desease I can spot around here is hatred, I can tell by the virtual foam around their vitrual mouths.

I was merely divulging this personal fact about me to argue that it is not impossible for someone who hasn't shown any interest in same sex love so far to do so at a later time!

Sometimes I wonder if some gamers are more into BW games like ME as a relationship simulator rather than saving the galaxy. It's an interesting PART of the game but not THE game. This from a male gamer who has played several female characters in BW games and taken them through a lesbian romance path.

S/s male option was in the game initially. For some reasons it was removed. While s/s romance for females was always there. Now their finally making it right. And look what we observe on the forum. Some people suddenly decided that its happening at the expense of other non-romantic dialogue options. This is so ridiculous. And such obvious homophobia does not flatter you.

That would be my point as well as I have never understood why people cared so much about a lenthy romance option within a video game.  To some extent, I see how it would make the story more realistic but in many ways, I think it's gone beyond reasonable expectations.

Wrong. For all intents and purposes they likely had both Shepard VAs record all of the lines rather than filter out what male or female Shepard would not say based on general. There is nothing being made right here, rather Bioware is caving to the demands of a whiny, extremely small minority of gamers who think they are entitled to such things. These same people wonder why society is so "cruel" to them, this is part of the answer. The "homophobia" card is so overplayed as to be meaningless, it is used as nothing more than an attempt to guilt trip individuals into supporting what they want.

Just as perfectly usual, str8 dudes want their str8 Sheps to romance female characters and are so cool with lesbian Sheps. Gay male Sheps are a no no. Therefore they start and keep to the crap like you just wrote. Take your hate energy and do something useful.
