@one life crisis, Hudson's announcement on the expansion of romance in ME3.
Er, yeah, isn't that what this thread is about? You've lost me I'm afraid; which of my posts were you originally replying to?

Some of us don't want THE ENTIRE CREW lusting over Shepard.
If the ME crew pulls a DA2, then my Shepard will fear suprise buttsecks more than the reapers.

I want to pour some drinks with Kaidan, and Jacob now. Very well thought out.CulturalGeekGirl wrote...

Best Case Scenario:
Bioware manages to do this in a way that is so seamless that people uninterested in romancing a character will have no idea that such a romance is even available, while people who are interested will easily be able to initiate a deep, flirty romance.
Bioware don't exactly have a great track record in this department.
I can understand that you'd be wary based on some past issues, and I feel your pain. I was once trying to do a non-romance cannon and Liara stealth'd me. But maybe they've learned, and it isn't that difficult. First, let's say we have two DA-style icons, % is for friendship and @ is for flirting.
Here's an expanded version of my previous example, with an expanded option wheel.
Tali: "Shepard, I've always mean to ask, how do humans... get to know each other? That is... what was your first kiss like"
Someone you like {%} - - Someone special
- No one in particular
Reminded me of you {@) - - None of your business
If you pick "someone you like" you give Tali advice, like a caring older sibling, and get the [Friendship] flag. If you pick "reminded me of you" you get the [interest] flag checked, which makes Tali flirty and gives you the option to check the [Romance] flag later. All the other options are neutral, though the ability to pursue frienship is always an option, as long as you don't continuously choose Renegade options.
Here's a similar dialogue, for Kaidan:
Kaidan:
"I tried to distract myself from the Reapers, even started having drinks with this doctor on the Citadel. It didn't help."
MaleShepard
I had someone {%} - - The crew has each other
- We have to focus
Waiting for a chance {@} - - Don't rely on others
The "I had someone" frienship line would vary based on your ME1 or 2 LI, and the conversation would go to both of you reminiscing over past romances, like bros do. From then on, you only get the frienship options.
There are a bunch of ways to do this right. Either Bioware has already come up with them, or they're scanning feedback threads like this one to see what people think would be the best. I'm trying to be helpful and optimistic, here. (Also, I've done writing and design for games before, so this is an interesting design exercise).
(Edit: Yay! My dialogue wheels ended up wheelshaped!)
My opinion: It's just a game. The romances are there whether you like it or not. True some people take the romances a little too seriously, but fangirl/boys are the same for any franchise. Fangirl/boyism isn't that big a deal. They just really like a fictional character.
I personally consider Jack my favorite character, and the only romance I pursue. Jack is a part of my character's story, and a resolution between Jack and my character would be nice.
The thing is I'm straight, and role played a straight male. Gay males don't get to role play the romances so they miss out on the side-stories. They didn't have the option to make their stories more personal. It's just part of a role playing experience.
If I play as an evil D-bag does that mean I'm a horrible person in real life? No. I'm just enjoying different aspects of the game.

There is a point where catering to vocal fans is a bad idea. For instance: if an otherwise great game has a poor inventory system, and many fans complained about it, it would be in the devs best interest to change it. But if fans suddenly rose and said "This game needs to have rideable dinosaurs" the devs would likely ignore this. The fanservice of expanding the romance in Me3 is in no way as ridiculous as the example, but an example is what it is. You people are not the majority of fans.
Giving gay people (who actually an exist) representation in a video game is EXACTLY like giving people rideable dinosaurs (which don't actually exist). Yes, yes, I see how this is totally logical.

@onelifecrisis, yes that is the subject of this discussion. I was referring to one of your earlier posts in which you said that BW ignores this topic.
Ah, no I didn't, I said BW ignores the topic of romances being forced on the player.
See the Jack and Miranda romances in ME2, for example.

@siona, can you please read the whole post? It was a far-out example. And this discussion is NOT about homosexuality, it's about the proposed expansion of romance in ME3 as a result of fanservice. Please stop trying to paint me various shades of black.

Romance is a part of the story. It's an optional part, but so is surviving the second game, or having Garrus on your team in the first. Also, when has Bioware ever made you make that choice, you could have both in Jade Empire, KotOR, and both Dragon Age games, so what makes you think that they are going to force you to make that choice in this game... esspecially considering Shepard's the king/Queen of the third option.jpace335 wrote...
Let me first say that I have been a fan of these games from the beggining. This is for two reasons: story and gameplay. I do NOT consider the romances to be part of the story. Sure, we all know the LI will become a plot device in ME3 w/ a choice of "Save Earth or save your LI". Come on. Why do you people feel the need to beg for more of this trite crap? This has got to stop. Bioware, I feel like you think these people begging for more people to **** in ME are the majority of the fanbase.

Bioware should only cater to MY interests, it would solver everything. They need to make Poochie a squad member.

The fact is that the whole romance thing has gotten out of control. Look at the first page of these boards. Count the # of topics related to romancing something. There are constantly people who want to romance somebody they currently can't so they whine and complain until they get their way. It's frustrating at best, especially when you consider the fact that Bioware could be adding real, meaningful, gameplay or story related content instead of pleasing special interest groups who want to sleep with an elcor, or want Kaidan to suddenly turn gay.
This and I wouldn't want Tali or Garrus gay either nor would I want Joker and Chakwas to suddenly want shep I mean for Joker he said his hips break in ME now he says his whole body breaks in ME2 and Chakwas is like old enough to be shep's mom! When they announced no new LI I was happy thinking they'd really work on making them deep, meaningful, and special but now they're fan servicing the gay option hopefully not with the cast of ME - ME2. Who knows maybe they've already gotten 90% of the prior romances done so we've got nothing to worry about on that but we won't know till it's out.
If they want to make brand new ME3 potential squadmembers like the raloi or that Vegas guy be gay fine they're new and unknown to us but established LI leave alone BW.
And I guess sense we're on the topic BW fully support bromances and BFF with the girls on the team. Except for Jack sense she wouldn't know a friend if it launched a biotic blast her way.

Other than missing his point, would you think it's essential for an RPG to be able to be a gay (both regarding your original and new sex) transexual? Just as a small example. I think it would be pointless to satisfy every minority group that exists on the surface of this planet. Particularly for such a minor element of the game.Siona wrote...

Also there is a vocal minority that does the romances, since according to Bioware, not that many people even bother to do them.
