MOVING AWAY FROM THIS ISSUE AT ONCE.

So since marriage probably wouldn't work... possibly she wouldn't want to marry someone who wasn't a guard? Because they wouldn't be sufficiently close in profession to guarantee that they'd always be together?

It just makes me soo jealous when I hear how Donnic ''handle her in bed'' while Aveline talks with Isabela....

I would have hit that nail...

If people kick up a big enough stink about it, she'll be an option in the third game.

Unlikely; that'd happen in ME, but different character parties aren't continuous between games in DA.

I wish Bioware would have made Aveline romance-able. She was the most interesting female in DA2. I had to settle for Isabela on my 2nd playthrough. learned the hard way I could not romance Aveline!

This sounds like a good idea at first. But if she was romancable, something'd have to happen with Donnic. After losing one husband, that'd just be really suck for her. That taken into account, I'd rather her be happily spoken for.

I think that ultimately the Female Romances in Dragon Age 2 were a big Step back from the Origins Romances and that is saying something considering the Warden being a Silent Protaganist.

I believe that the best Options to the Female Romances are these
1.Isabella-"Friendship Romance"
2.Merrill-"Rivalry Romance"

And I am still hoping that if Bioware won't make Aveline Romanceable they add some more LI's because this games Romances were really lacking.

That would assume that the Donnic plot actually went anywhere in this version; it wouldn't have to.

Well, I wouldn't want to romance Aveline, rival or friend because after the whole "I can fix this!" fun it just doesn't seem very interesting or exiting. Or fun. Don't get me wrong, I think she's alright as an NPC and she usually owns Hawke. Except whe she doesn't. This one is easily one of DA2's LOL moments:

"I didn't ask to be made the butt of your jokes!"
Hawke: "Donnic."
"...okay, sometimes I have asked for it."

Seeing Aveline go to Hawke's estate to mumble about her feelings about Hawke to Leandra would've probably been awesome.

Merril wont marry Male Hawke because she's Dalish and its TABOO for her to even be in a relationship with him. Dalish women DO NOT marry humans. They dont sleep with humans. They don't date humans. Look what happened to Faynriels mother? Merril's clan took her in only once she'd been "free'd" of her human born son, one way or another.

It's vice versa too. Humans usually -do not- marry elves. I mean it can happen, like Sorris and his human wife, but he's the cousin, practically brother, of the warden.. so, exception-to-the-rule.

As for Aveline.. I think her and Hawke's relationship would be a disaster from the get-go. She'd try and protect him. Hawke's not someone you -can- protect. She tries enough as it is just being his friend. It would cause them all kinds of strife and eventually get one of them killed. Not to mention that she's the captain of the guard and he gets up to A LOT of trouble. As a friend, she can pat him on the head and fix the mess..

As her husband... she'd just lose her job. It's a lot more difficult to hide bad things someone you're married to does on a consistent basis then it is a friend you see "sometimes". As a friend (pre-vicount's son rescue at least) she can be like, "Hawke? Yea I know him. We rode the same boat from Ferelden together. Nah I haven't seen him in a while. Why, whats up?"

As for the ME2 reference to fan service as per example of S/S vrs not -- Dragon Age is known for its s/s, and it never surprised me that every LI was "Hawkesexual". Especially since it takes most LI 4 years of knowing Hawke before they express any real feelings. Hell it takes Isabela almost 5 and even a friendmanced Fenris takes 7 years to sort out how he feels. In Fact the only one who lets on that the flirting is really WORKING before then is Anders.

Wait, what was I ranting about? Oh right ME2 Garrus./Tali.. right. While Tali could effectively die (and doesn't.. and there's even a quarian ****ing about how some human tried to talk her into full body contact on Illium) Quarians can't contract human illnesses. The more likely outcome of that encounter would just be an allergic reaction and a fever. In fact a turian and a quarian are very close in biolgy and THEIR union is likely more dangerous *nod*.

Besides, a relationship with garrus is NOT fan service. He's the ****ing man. *humpfs* Not.. sure.. how.. it would work per-say, but its perfectly acceptable!

Now if Garrus was into man-sausage, THEN it would be fan service. I just can't see him -personally- being into m!shep that way.

That is my point about Merrill/Hawke it will never really amount to much considering that the relationship is considered Taboo by both Humans and Elves so in my opinion the Romance is pointless cute but pointless.

And as for Isabella/Hawke that one has a least some potental of succeding and turning into a lasting relationship but Hawke would have to be persistant and dedicated but I figure Bella would tire of the normal life with Hawke and she would run off and break Hawkes Heart eventually because thats just who she is a free spirit.

Now as for Hawke/Aveline I still think that it could have worked and I believe the possable scenes would have been priceless Imagine Aveline being Protective of Hawke like she was with Donnic it could have been cute and endearing.

Also as for her Job getting in the way of said romance is a questionable point because Hawke can either be Good or Bad and do honorable or malicous things so that argument really can't be used be cause of everyone's Hawke is diffrent.

Also I have a feeling come Mass Effect 3 Male Shepards will be able to romance Garrus just you watch
I am calling it right now lol

Why the heck would you care so much about what other people think? Merrill is a perfectly valid romance.
Though I do agree with you on Aveline.

How did a thread centred around a hypothetical Aveline romance warp into a discussion about bisexual LIs?

That being said, Aveline would have been an interesting love interest, and she should have been available to both gender Hawkes. As others have said in this very topic, however, I think that particular ship has sailed.

Aveline is too much of a 'big sister' for my Hawke's to have romantic interest.  Regardless, I think it could have worked if the writers wanted it to.

No, that's what makes it meaningful and awesome.  The relationship amounts to a lot...they don't care what others think.

Ditto. Aveline may be my favourite character, but I don't think I'd ever want my Hawkes to romance her. She's their close friend and companion, and their relationship is strictly platonic!

I'd support an Aveline romance for other players, though.

I think the thing about Aveline is that she can be that big Sister to some people and at the same time destroy other people when they discover that she can't be romanced.

I seriously almost quit playing DA2 after The Long Road while the mission was funny as you know what I was just so let down because I personally believed that Aveline was a far better option than either Isabella or Merrill.

@LesEnfantsTerribles
I think that Velanna would have been a better choice as the Elf Love Intrest I know the whole Eluvian thing and everything is ok but Bioware could have just as well continued her hunt fr her sister Seranni and I believe her character would have fit into kirkwall just think she hates humans and her banter could have been great like a potental reunion with Anders.

I'd agree with you, but... well, you know how the whining about how Anders didn't stay dead? Imagine how bad it would be if it was Velanna.
Actually, come to think of it, that might have been a bonus.

Aveline was great because not only was she terrible at going after Donnic she was equally oblivious at all the heart dialogue options the player can go for.

As for Velanna.....blech
