The point i am making is that I think that a Hawke/Aveline Romance would have been better than either Isabella's or Merrills.

I already stated earlier that of the 2 available Female romances I like Isabellas the most but I still think that Aveline is the best and most compelling Female in Dragon Age 2 I never romance Merrill I always romance Bella but I love my Guardian

I'm with you Bobzilla.

My ultimate Problem is that Bioware choose 2 distinct Female Characters to make Romanceable being Isabella and Merrill the main problem I have with them is that both Romances seem a little Shallow and poorly done.

Isabella seems like a Friend with benefits for Hawke and Merrill is a whole other story I just don't see her as a actual Romance Option she just some how ends up Friend-zoned the same as Tali in Mass Effect I just don't think they are valid Love Intrests.

The funny thing is that neither Isabella or Merrill are very good options which is why my hawke is staying single I hopeto be able to get him together with either Leliana or Morrigan in DA3 or Future DA2 DLC because they are better than what we got now I wanted my Guardian but if Donnic get's Aveline then Bioware you better let our Hawkes Pursue Morrigan,Leliana and Cassandra eventually.

Thanks Jarlof Seoul

Yeah. Hardly the far reaching uber romance between the Warden and Morrigan. I think Bioware was scarred from that and preferred a less complicated approach to romances in DA2. Practically token romances for straight male Hawkes.

I have always said that DA2 was a utter let down Romance wise there just isn't any good options as a straight Male gamer I felt that bioware in their pursuit to make everybody happy they ultimately messed up.

I have nothing against their new everybody is BI Sexual Policy but they Should have at least delivered some quality Romance options because alot of them are just bad in my opinion.

The really ironic thing is that I love Dragon Age 2 but most of my Hawkes are Single because I like Isabella and romanced her with one but the rest are alone because I don't like Merrill.

Dream Romance List for Dragon Age 3
Female Options:
Morrigan
Leliana
Cassandra

Honestly Isabella wasn't that bad of a choice she is teh faithful type its just she never had anyone she wanted to be faithful to.

I agree Isabella is definitley the best of the two female Options but in all honestly her romance was a little Shallow in my opinion.

I am sure that alot of people think I am Starting to sound like a broken record but I am going to say it again Dragon Age 2 failed with their Romances I love the new Combat System but I think Origins destroyes it Story and Romance Wise.

I agree with you. Merrill and Isabela feel more like "Archetypes" than fully fleshed out romances. This was the same exact problem I had with ME2 romances for MaleSheps compared to Liara and Ashley.

The only way that I can handle the two Female romances is if I do a certain on mainly these
Isabella-Friendship/Romance
Merrill-Rival/Romance
And I agree about them being stereotypes the overly sexualized Bad Girl and the Cute,Shy,Naive and clumsy Sweetheart.

And don't even get me started on Mass Effect ok here are the only Romances I pursue in that Series:
Mass Effect-Ashley Williams,Kaiden Alenko
Mass Effect 2-Miranda Lawson & Jack & Kelly Chambers

And as much as I like Liara I don't Romance her or Tali mainly because I think their unrealistic Romances one will out live Shepard and being intimate could kill the other the same cpuld be said about Garrus but oh well I only romance Human LI's

When I get to the Long Road I honestly have quit playing several times it is a comical mission and all but I just get fed up and don't feel like continueing the game in my opinion Bioware messed up by not making Aveline romancable.

And to be honest a Hawke/Aveline Romance could have been implemented it could have begun as early as the Way it Should Be with the first Flirt option and Bioware could have kept Aveline's cluelessness about Hawke's Feelings & Intentions and finally when The Long Road came around Hawke could have came right out and tell Aveline that he not only loves her but has loved her for a long time.

The main thing about that whole Scenario is that The Fan's of The Long Road could have been happy because the whole mission could have been available but with the ability to romance Aveline.

Aveline is like Samara.

They're both cases of Bioware playing games with our fragile little gamer hearts :crying:

I would never ;)

But Bobzilla's premise is flawed regardless of my desire to mess with you. We didn't conceive Aveline whole cloth in the same condition that you experienced her, and we didn't decide from that point to flick the romance switch. That just isn’t how original character development works, and a large portion of it springs from expectations around the labels “romance” and “non-romance” within the earliest character pitches that then inform concepts and plots. Insert long and boring talk about process and baggage, but the lowdown is that “Romance Aveline” would’ve been different, perhaps in concept, design, writing, plot arc, resources, player expectation, or in ways that I can’t guess because she simply doesn’t exist. You might still have liked her, hypothetically, but she wouldn’t have been the “Aveline” you know, because it was through my straining against necessary limitations that she became the character she is. So if what you wanted existed, it might not be what you wanted. Bummer, huh?

Just have to point out about ME1 for mostly my own amusement.

The choices are a preachy bible thumping bigot or the awkward, geeky alien who will out live and likely dissect your brain when you die.

So really in the nut shell the alien has the most benefits while you're alive but you will want to have a closed casket service. Just sayin.

ME2

The Bio-Engineered stuck up Barbie with an inferiority complex. The Murdering Sociopath with dependency issues. The "vulnerable" nice girl alien (Only nice if you're not a Geth) that people were complaining about not being able to romance. The only thing I will point out to those people. She was like 17 when you met her. So at least she was legal by ME2. But that just means she's defaulted the nice girl.

This just means you can settle for the nice girl, the crazy girl or the barbie. At least none of them will likely dissect you. You just may never want to ****** off Jack unless the Illusive Man still has some extra body parts sitting in a vat some where.

I wasn't being combative, it was intended to be a self-deprecating poke at myself :)

I don't write for a living, but I do do it for fun.  I understand exactly what you mean.  What you ended up with in this character is wildly different than what you would've come up with if you were intending her to be romance.  It's like a catch 22.

Or maybe it's because people naturally want what they can't have.

Ashley never mentioned her religion, only that she had one.  She could easily have been deist, muslim, jewish, or christian.

Liara didn't actually want to dissect you, she just wasn't very good at social interaction.

Tali was not a teenager in ME1.  Period.  Codex says she was born in 2161, which would make her 22 years old in ME1.

I wager most want what they can't have. Hence all the people who pushed for Tali as a romance cause they couldn't have her in ME1. Being the only female party member that they couldn't romance. I'm sure there are some who wanted Sten to be a romance. The Cullen fans. It's easy to imagine what they want in their heads. But the catch is no matter in the end if they script a relationship it may not be the one they see in their head. So the character they met that is Aveline and her antics in the Long Road are great right? So what would be like if you were the one dealing with her instead? How she'd even approach you would be different. She'd likely be a different person already.

What people know as the characters such as Isabela and Merrill are as they scripted for you. But people have voices in their heads or concepts in their minds for relationships with Athenril, Aveline, Samara, Aria and so on from the games. This figments are perfect to one'self but if they got what they asked for? They could be sorely dissapointed if it's not like it. But that neighbor's lawn is so much greener than mine.

I never rival Aveline but this bit here sounds a bit interesting. Would have been fun to see how that rivalmance turned out.

I would think romancing Aveline would be like romancing you mom, she is way too overbearing to be a romance option.

Since men are said to choose girlfriends who resemble their mothers in both looks and behavior, the Aveline romance seems like a perfect fit *g*

Overbearing?

I think she might kill my hawke with a iron grip hug, never mind more intimate matters.

My first playthrough, I fumbled my way through as a snarky M!Hawke and romanced Anders.  When I came to The Long Road bit, I was amused--and I had gotten caught up in my snarky M!Hawke's attitude, so I took the "heart" dialogue options as a means to tease Aveline.  I thought it was brilliant how she ignored it each time, especially since earlier on in the group she had mentioned something about M!Hawke's relationship with Anders.  I figured she knew he was only joshing her.

But then at the end, I thought... gee, that was sort of bittersweet.  What if...?

This really got me into the game and held me despite all the issues I had with DA2.  I appreciated that she wasn't obtainable--even on other playthroughs as M!Hawke--and her conversations with the other characters--especially Isabella--fleshed out not only Aveline, but also Isabella to some extent, as well.

She's a brilliant character.  Possibly my favourite female character since Celes Chere in Final Fantasy VI.

Yeah Aveline is great, but in true BW fan status, the more fleshed out a character is, the more they hate them lol.

I honestly don't know what Aveline saw in that loser city guard... he got his butt handed to him by a couple of bandits while on a routine patrol. Pathetic, really... part of that is bitterness over not being able to romance Aveline, sure, but that guy really did suck. Ah well... In my case, this is the first Bioware game I've played in ages where I didn't go through any romances at all... not as bad as you'd think, really. So while I'd have liked Aveline to be a romanceable character, I think the Lonesome Road quest is one of the most entertaining in the game... I don't know if it's a completely fair trade-off, but it's good enough.

@Icy Magebane
I agree with you this is the First Bioware game in which I don't romance anyone and I agree it is not all that bad either.

And after hearing that Bioware is going to drop Hawke in Dragon Age 3 I am hoping that Bioware releases an Awakening Size Expansion to finish Hawkes Story and hopefully it will have new Romance Options
