I just finished downloading ME2 on Steam today, and my friend got on and made a char today and it play excellent, i was really excited, so i uploaded my ME1 char. and decided to jump on in. right away i began having problems, the fist cut scenes with Miranda, and the Attack on the Normandy all had severe audio lag. Then when i got the the point where i selected the final appearance (after several minutes of stairing at a black screen) it cut out completely. I restarted steam, and started up the game, it crashed before opening. Then, i restarted the whole computer, it did the same thing. This is all very puzzling considering it worked very well hours ago on the EXACT same system.
I am trying to avoid having to wait another day and a half to re-download it.
Someone please assist.
Can't Open game, after loading ME1 char.

Just for kicks and giggles did you try rerunning a fresh non-imported character?? I am wondering if you are having a computer/game issue or a import issue. I don't know of any particular reason an imported character would have a problem and a new one wouldn't. Any error codes and what are your computer specs as well as what specs are you running the game at.
Information is king in all diagnosis.

I can't even get in the game to make a new char now. its very frustrating. The specs for me running the game are the defaults, the error says that something unexpected has caused it to shut down. My specs are. Windows 7, Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz 2.67 GHz
4.00 GB ram, 32-bit OS

Verify your Steam cache integrity, thath may fix the non-start issue.
For the lag issue, read this thread, and post all of the details we need. What you have posted so far is only half of whats required to troubleshoot.

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT Driver Version: 267.24 Direct x 10. Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Monitor: Acer X203H.
My friend came over here yesterday, and when ME2 finished downloading on Steam he played it, he was fooling around and made a new char. and got the the point where you meet the Illusive Man, then he left and i went to dinner, when i came back, i went to import my char. from ME1, which i did, the first time, while it was importing it glitched for some reason and i had to alt-tab out and close it. Then i restarted the game and tried again, it worked this time and when i went to start the game i noticed that i wasn't getting any sound from the inital cutscene (this was with headphones not the speakers). The audio would run together at the same time around the end of the clip. Then, it started to straighten out during the part where you haul Joker out into an escpae pod. After i disapper into the planets and it fades to the ME2 logo, i had to wait through a 5 minute long black screen, as i was about to alt-tab, i heared the sound of the med-bay cutscene opening. I went back in and waited to see what might happen. Unfortunatley, after yet another 5 minute black screen i got to finalize the char. details for his face. Then when you are supposed to see Miranda, who gives you a sedative, right before the attack starts. It goes black yet again. Out of annoyance i closed it in Alt-tab. But before i did i hesitated, becuase i would hear clips of the audio around 1-2 seconds worth. this was followed by the not responding switching to running on the command window. After i left, i decided to restart it and try again, which is where i am now, not being able to get into the game, because it keeps saying that "something has cause the program to stop working correctly"

Sounds like an import issue to me if it worked with another save/totally new game. I don't know if you'll be fine with this solution but you could check on the website http://www.masseffectsaves.com/ to look for a save with the same decision as you made in your run through, download it, put it in the right folder and then import it.
There are also a way to edit your own save with some kind of save generator. Unfortunately, if I've understood it correctly, you will have to make a ME2 save which you can start over with again but then the game will think you have played it trough and therefore give you the benefits for having completed it before. If you want more information about it check this topic http://social.biowar...6/index/7385125

While I appreciate the help, I still can't even get into the game to make a new char. I've cleared out the imported char. and ME1 saves in a attempt to somehow reverse the problem. Didn't work though.

One suggestion is to goto Realtek's website and dl the latest driver from their site. As Bogsnot mentioned in another thread the default one in Win7 is buggy and a good many problems are fixed with the upgraded one.
You may also try reinstalling ME2 because the issue may be a corruption or some such, use steam integrity check and also make sure DirectX9.0c was installed during ME2 install.

I noticed you are running Beta drivers for your video card, which can also be buggy and unreliable. I dont suggest upgrading them to a newer version, as they tend to have tweaks designed for newer games that leave older games such as ME2 out in the cold. I suggest one of these, depending on which version of Win7 you run, 32 or 64 bit.
32 bit;

64 bit;
