Fight for... A compromise

Bioware, don’t screw this up. This sounds like it could be one of the best games in history – and based on what we’ve heard so far, it’s starting to look that way. However, Casey’s tweet about same sex romances and LIs in ME3 is potentially devastating.
I understand Liara (and Kelly Chambers, I guess) are already considered S/S LIs. That’s fine. However, ME3 will be RUINED if, all of a sudden, a large proportion of existing characters turn out to be bi. It will honestly ruin the epicness of the series. Miranda, Thane, Garrus, Tali, Jacob… male shep – all bi? Don’t you see how this could make people who don’t share the views of those who post in the “Fight for the Love thread” a tad uncomfortable?
Proposed Solution – A compromise
In the world of Mass Effect, it is impossible to please everyone, because each player gets to create their own canon (a big reason why it is one of the best game series ever). If you must, make a small number of the current LIs interested in the same sex (like Kaiden and Jack). Don’t make it available for every character, and don’t even hint at it in the slightest for those who have romanced a different sex in ME 1 and 2. In addition, add one or two new LIs (James Vegas, for example) who might be openly interested in an SS romance.
I admit (as you likely now know if you read this entire post), that I am against SS romances. Call me homophobic, I honestly don’t care. And I’m not trying to offend anyone who is gay or wants to pursue SS romance. But some people need to understand that SS romances, while interesting and desirable for some, can be potentially upsetting for others.

If the S/S romance initiation option took the form of a single conversation, where your character has two options on the dialogue wheel, one clearly marked
- [FRIENDSHIP]
and one clearly marked
- [FLIRTING]
And if you picked the first option, the same sex romance was never mentioned again, would that bother you? And if so, why? Bear in mind that in this scenario it is only a single line, clearly marked, once in the game. And with this single decsion you never have any indication that the romance exsted again, and there is no flirtation, before or after, from either party unless you choose the clearly marked flirting option.

In fact, I would argue that the game's romances would be better if there was a mixture of strictly homosexual/ bisexual/ strictly heterosexual characters.
As for your "proposed solution"? I don't know, It's a bit to vague to really think about. Like the line, "And don't even hint at it in the slightest for those who have romanced a different sex." needs a bit more context.
Don't take me the wrong way, I'm not bashing you. I just need a bit more information (exactly how would you handle that, how would you do it, what would characters say, that kinda stuff) to say whether I agree or disagree.

So all I'm really getting from this is that only a few gay people should be around otherwise no one would be cool enough to be be in the game anymore, and that if you're not comfortable with the fact that gay people play video games and may *gasp* actually want to romance someone to their preferences, gay people should take a step back because of what you want despite the fact that they are already underrepresented, both as players and as characters.
This is... not really a compromise.

Hooboy. Not sure if I should respond, but I do want to ask a single question of someone who has your particular perspective, just to see what the answer is.

I will say that I would prefer that not to be there. I understand, however, that there is a signifigant part of the community that wants the option of SS romances. Therefore, I believe that the one-time option is a fair compromise.
Has Casey confirmed Male shep will pursue SS romances, or just that they will be available?

Maybe this James Vega guy is gay, but in that case it is a damn shame Jacob gets pushed out of the team for a token gay guy to pander to a very small element of the fanbase.

I'm fine with S/S romances as long as it's in character.
I'm sure many people would agree with that. I do. Problem seems to be that some people are prone to rather wishful thinking and see characters as being a certain way (e.g. gay Garrus) despite their being no indication of it in the games.
*sigh*
Looks like in ME3 I'm going to have to deal with the Tali crap all over again (Didn't you know? She always fancied Shepard! /facepalm) only this time with Garrus and who knows who else.

Thepeak12 hit the nail on the head for me... certain characters suddenly becoming bi in the 3rd game seems out of character.
I must say, I appreciate that there have been some fair and pleasent responses from fellow posters.

It honestly doesn't matter how you phrase it, it would be BS for current LIs to suddenly turn gay or bisexual. The "Fight for the Love" club would copy the DA2 formula which was as well executed as the rest of the game. They don't believe in compromise.

Token black guy getting pushed out by the token gay guy? Wuh Oh.

Like Gianna in ME2? What the crap? She showed no interest in dudes in ME1; it totally ruined the epicness of the game. Seriously, no more straight content. It's horrible writing and I do NOT want to see it.
Did I mention I'm not against straight relationships? Just don't add any new ones to people who are not introduced with an "I AM ALL ABOUT HETERO SEX" in a previous game.
kthx

I don't understand how knowing it's there and it's possible causes people to freak out and somehow consider the game in a less positive light. It does not make sense to me.

Garrus mentions his "sparring" match with a female turian. Thane was madly in love with his wife. Jacob seems truly hurt that Miranda doesn't feel any connection with him. I feel it would go against characteristics of said characters if this was reversed in ME3; especially considering that they didn't open up to Shepard a mere few months ago, but suddenly decide that an imminent reaper invasion is the time to do so.

There are probably only going to be a small variation of "bi" squadmates, by that, I'm picturing Kaidan/Ashley, Liara, Tali and Garrus.
Hudson specifically said it will be "flagged" by conversation. Don't want to be involved in gay conversations? Then, don't choose the flirty options when communicating. You won't even know it even existed. It's not going to be forced onto you, unless you provoke the topic. The end.

Satire is not the same as trolling. It's actually a contribution and a counter-argument in its absurdity.
The fact that you think it's trolling lends credibility to my point.
