This is a thread for the discussion of Same Sex Romance, which was just confirmed to be supported in Mass Effect 3.

***

First, a couple of things.
  • Sexist, vulgar, and other insulting comments and remarks as well as foul language will not be tolerated, and Users engaging in such language can expect an unhealthy dose of Banhammer. Remember the Site Rules
  • This is a place to express your hopes, fears, concerns of how this is to come about in ME3 - This isn't a "club house" for any one group, We have the Group section for that.
  • Dissenting opinions is perfectly fine and very natural. But remember to express your ideas/statements in a mature, and respectful manner.
  • Moderaters cannot always patrol every page of every thread - What this means is that if you encounter a troublesome post or user that you feel is just trolling to incite a flame war, do NOT engage with the problem, nor should you quote them. The best way is to simply PM  Chris Priestly, Stanley Woo, myself or another moderator.
****

Now, some starter questions.

Do you feel this opens up the Role Playing options available to players?

What new characters might we expect to be available for such romances?

I personally, don't feel that a slew of characters will be made bi-curious just for the heck of it. I have a good deal of faith in the Mass Effect writing team when it comes to Character Development to not be worried about this in the slightest. On the contrary, I feel this is only another really wonderful example of just how much attention BioWare and the Mass Effect team pays attention to us here on the forums, especially to have Casey Hudson himself tweet the news.

Had good points and discussions from both sides of the fence.

I'm really expecting one token bi/gay option of either gender.

Possibly just one bi guy to balance Liara.

Which is GREAT, by the way, but honestly? ENTIRE TEAM IS JACOB SHEPARDSEXUAL is a bit much.

Best option - James Vega and Liara bi. Everybody else stays the same

I think what would work best is have two new squadmembers (james and female) and have them be bisexual, then there wouldn't be people complaining about how X from ME/ME2 is bisexual now

The entire team is Shepard-sexual already.

That would be satisfactory.  One good quality m/m is all I need.

The rest?  Well, you know.  Fanfics. *giggle*

Kasumi, Wrex, Grunt, Zaeed, Samara, Mordin, and Legion would like a word with you.

Okay, not Legion.

That 'bot be creepin'.

My thoughts:

Available to both genders: Kaidan and Miranda, maybe also Jack and Jacob, plus Liara of course.
Available to MaleShep only: Tali, Ashley
Available to FemShep only: Garrus, Thane

And just for fun: Anders, because it would freak people the eff out.:wizard:

As much as it pains me to compromise, yes this is probably the best solution, as long as James Vega isn't handled in a Dragon Age 2 Anders manner.

Agreed - new squadmates be the bi love interest. But only because I have eight Shepards and I don't want multiples of the same love interest.

This doesn't bother me, I just don't want it to make whole sale character experiences shallower if you don't romance them. I honestly feel like I miss out on a good deal of dialog when I don't romance someone, in terms of who they are or groundbreakingly changing their personality (i.e. Jack)

Agreed, I also think they should add a new female companion other than Liara who is bi.

I'd be happy with James Vega and Joker.

If only one I'd take Joker.

Frankly any human male other than Jacob will do.

I'm definitely rooting for James Vega to be a bisexual love-interest, if only because there was no possibility of him dying in ME1 or ME2.

But that said, I wouldn't complain if Kaidan became available for male Shepards. My gay (and thus far, single) Shepard has been pining for Kaidan since ME1.

I would be fine with this people like me who like character consistency and those who want same sex options would both benefit.

I have a good deal of faith in the Mass Effect writing team when it comes to Character Development to not be worried about this in the slightest.

Tali in ME1: "I'm not interested in Shepard."
Tali in ME2: "I've always been interested in Shepard!"

Liara in ME1: "Paragon FTW! I love Shepard!"
Liara in ME2: "Renegade FTW! I don't have time for Shepard."

Ashley/Kaiden in ME1: "I love Shepard!"
Ashley/Kaiden in ME2: "I hate Shepard!"

Wrex in ME1: "Screw helping my people."
Wrex in ME2: "I need to help my people!"

The Mass Effect writing team have shown that they can do superb character development arcs within a single game (this is evidenced in both ME1 and ME2 taken as seperate games) but I don't share your faith in their ability to do convincing character developments across games, based on what I've seen so far.

My point is that if Shepard expresses an interest, it is returned, no questions asked.

Except for Mordin...  But a guy/girl can dream, can't they?  ;)

I gotta say I agree with this idea, instead of changing characters who already seem established as straight, have the new male character be bi for the male same sex romance, and since everyone says Liara is a female same sex romance both are covered.

There's going to be 3 or 4 new people right. That should give the bi crowd enough options to work with. It's unnecessary to have the whole cast bi, that's just out of the ordinary. That was sort of wierd in DA2. Best compromise has to be the new squad members.

This! Keep everybody how they are now. No funny stuff like the Garrus and Tali romance.
