People can't help be gay nor black.

It is wrong to discriminate based on race. It's also wrong to discriminate based on sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, weight - a whole slew of things.

Fine - people are entitled to their opinions. But some opinions are. just. wrong.

Mario is a non customizable character that has a canonical LI that he rescues every game.

Shepard, whose sex, childhood, apperance, military history, and personality is open ended ( or rather, painted in broad strokes open to interpretation) has 9 possiblities so far, accounting for both sexes. And Femshep can be gay in the very first game.

WTF Mario isn't gay? I must have totally read that game wrong I thought Mario and Luigi were uhm special friends.

10% That is ridiculous. Possible m/m romances did not affect the sales of any game so far. in fact several rather successful games franchises have them ( E.g. Sims, DA, Fable, ...).

As for why gays get something this time. Because it is easy to do. Making one of the LIs bisexual does require relatively little resources and considering that those for the inclusion outnumber those against it at least two to one a bisexual LI for both sexes gives a big pay off for relatively small investment.

Of course they're not connected but it the same thing. Hate or discrimination just for the sake of hate and discrimination. It's being against somebody simply for what they are.  A racist is somebody who discriminates against people of different races. A bigot is somebody who discriminates against homosexuals. Same thing, different subject matter.

It's been mentioned that non-squad members may be romanceable so it's possible. I'm not sure if they're going to go the route of the incidental flirting like with Kelly. I think they're focusing on more deep and meaningful relationships.
