This is basically what I've been saying all along buddy. A new gay LI? Cool beans, more than happy to turn him down/not pursue that when the time comes, and as long as we can actually have a platonic interaction, it's all good.

But mess with the existing cast? HELL NO! I tell you man, sometimes the more vocal gay forumites here just will not be happy unless EVERY bloke you meet can be flirted with. Leave it out, eh? Be happy and rejoice that you ARE being considered and there WILL be a romance option, and leave the existing cast alone. Surely, it isn't too much to ask?

EDIT:- Also a bit misleading as PCGamer UK reported in their June article there would be NO NEW LI's. At all. Maybe they'll change their minds again at the end or won't have enough time to get it in, who knows.

Nope, it's not too much to ask. I'm aware that people are going to have their objections. I'm just pleased that BioWare have taken this step in the right direction so I'm willing to compromise for people not so comfortable with the decision. I don't think I'd mind if it was limited to new LIs only if it made more people happier.

I think it was pointed out that these magazine articles may not be all that accurate in a tweet recently by CHudson.

Yes. Some i'v read. It's their right to think it's good, as it's my right to think it's ridiculous.

Also, Bioware has not said how he would translate it, even if i'm confident.

The cast is too different, ME3 being a direct sequel, from how the situation was in Dragon Age 2. It will not happen. Why worry?

I'm not worry myself, but others are and I can understand, as Bioware has not clarified its position.

It's a fact. That fear became irrational because of DA2. People continue to worry unnecessarily because of all the defects that were out of this game to their eyes.

This isn't the first time and the first topic to be the target of an irrational fear, in a field. Remember all hostile topics  against mass effect and the Arrival shorlty after DA2. But myself I'm not worry.  I'm happy and i'm waiting in the same time.

So, why did they lie about there being no new love interests? Bioware needs to stop caring so much about the newcomers. If you want to play a story based RPG trilogy, then you don't start with the second or third game.

They really didn't; at the time of the interview they weren't going to add them. Then they decided that they could. The interviews were probably done much earlier this year then when they were released. Things change in development all the time. Our own development thread cautions that everything is subject to change.

You might if you don't know it's a story based RPG.

From they way they market it, you'd think it was a new Gears of War game. Or a Call of Duty: Alien Warfare. Which is disheartening (and that's not a knock on Gears or CoD, because I dig those too).

I wasn't aware an arrogance and "we don't owe you 'homophobes' any compromise" was civil dialouge? Sounds more like the words of over-entitled braggarts.

I don't think it was a lie. At least, not an intentional one. It's quite possible the magazine got it wrong. We've seen that countless times. It's also possible that, with the extra development time, they decided to add in one or two new options. I guess we'll find out as the release date nears.

I don't have any problem with the new LIs being the bi options + Liara. We'll have to wait and see, but I think it's pretty obvious that they aren't going to make all the old squad members bi, maybe one besides Liara for MShep.

Yes, CHudson basically said that those magazines had old info and that the inclusion of new LIs and s/s content was sorta new decision.

You know, I'm not against same sex relationships, but I doubt a poll
on the bioware boards is all that telling of what most people think. If anything, I'm surprised the pro-same sex LI number isn't higher, to be honest.

You generalise unjustly. Many people are just happy to see this and have wanted it without resorting to complaining about double-standards.

And instead of trying to start civil conversation, you revert back to the same old position of everyone being bad. How are you any better than us then? According to you, we are unreasonable, but it seems you are too.

Awhile ago you were happy to gloat that BioWare was excluding gay content regardless of who was unhappy about it, now you're crying because they're not accommodating your desire to have an extra level of protection from gay content other than just saying "no thanks, dude". I know what my point is, but what is your point?

What is your point? You're spoiled and arrogant because only your opinion matters? Of course I figured Bioware wouldn't cave into the whiners like yourself. I rather figured the ME team was better than that.

Now, now, no need for name calling. My being spoiled and arrogant has nothing to do with the fact that I support the inclusion of same-sex content. It's just a natural by-product of being awesome and attractive. But that's neither here nor there, the fact remains that now that you're on the other side of the fence, you're singing a different tune than you were before. Before this announcement, you were the "spoiled and arrogant" one, because BioWare's stance at that time supported your viewpoint that people who want something you dislike don't matter. Now that you're on the receiving end of what you view as "discrimination" (as if...) you don't like it. Instead of having an epiphany about how others might have felt, etc., etc., you choose to feel like a victim. For those of us who remember the glee with which you derided the idea, and the way you exulted over the exclusion of this content, well, it makes it hard for us to feel sorry for you. That's all I'm saying.

I don't think the supporters of inclusion have been behaving inappropriately, actually. We had our Fight For The Love thread, and we were happily celebrating—and it got locked. Then we got sent here, and we were happily discussing the possibilities, and then the anti-gay crowd started shouting down our ideas with calls of "Retcon!" and "Decreased Sales!" and other such pretexts which could be easily swept aside if all agreed to use reason and logic to discuss them. Those things evaporate pretty quickly when exposed to the light of reason. But instead of using your previously favorite trump card "It's BioWare's call—deal with it", we choose to laboriously go through the process of showing the flaws in the logic being presented as if it were something to seriously consider. Out of respect, and out of a desire to help those who simply don't know any better. But that part, at least, seems to be a losing battle. People don't say the things your fellows are saying if they want to engage in a reasoned discussion. They just want to hate loudly enough to get BioWare to overturn their decision. Well, I would wish you luck with that, but in truth I hope you fail.

Really? I guess most do realise that even if there are s/s romances included, it's just that, an option. If it's no option for me, maybe it's one for you. Straight romances are still there, anyway. Doesn't impact my game experience at all, and I'm happy said option is there for you. That's called tollerance - and that's a quite popular sentiment, in my opinion.

That's like saying you want every S/S option to be an ugly **** (can I say that here or should I censor it? help please) because some of the supporters of same sex relationships aren't as civil as what seems to be the majority in this thread.

Yes, it was not a lie. On his twitter, CHudson said that the "no new LIs" was an oversimplification of something he had said a few months ago and that things evolve during production.

You do have a point on the trilogy part … You hear that you don’t really need to play the previous game which is fine. But for those of us who do, can you reward us with in-game goodies that we would understand? After all, we fed the beast ... $$$$$ + countless hours invested - Bioware please show us some extra hugs! That is also why I would rather romance a character already in the game (Ash/Kaiden) then introduce someone new. It would make the story feel like a trilogy. In fact, not having either VS pre third game could make for some great 3rd act love story (straight or gay).
But that is just my 2 cents (I think I have spent 8 cents already on this thread).

Geesh, so now we're going with the minority/majority argument? Most players apparently play as male Shepard and don't want to play the female? But you can be a female anyway? Cool. Most people apparently play as a kinda sorta White Shepard, but there's an option to make him/her Black, Asian or whatever? Cool. So now they're catering to those who want a gay Male Shepard? Am I going to play one? No, but I'm happy that others will be able to, even if it means that (gasp) Bioware "recon" the original cast.

I'm trying to quit this thread, but one more thing. I think it's likely that Bioware is trying to cater not to newcomers, but to people who are bigger Bioware fans than those who like only Mass Effect.

Same sex romances are possible in most of their other games. So they're catering to people who like Bioware games in general, not just Mass Effect. In fact, based on this thread, they're mostly catering to people who are fans of Mass Effect AND other Bioware games.

Basically, they're catering to the opposite of newcomers.
