I'm a straight guy and I've been hit on by LOTS of gay guys.  There's no reason for guys to be offended, just take it as a compliment and move on.  It's not like the next thing they are going to do is jump on you and forcibly make out with you; a straight guy wouldn't do that to a girl, why would a gay guy do it to another guy?  Gay people aren't stupid, they understand if you are straight, and they aren't going to bother you anymore if you don't like your compliments.  I have confidence that Bioware understands that too and is going to do this right.

Most guys in my experience (girl speaking, if it helps) do know where to draw the line if you reject them clearly and firmly, but a fair number of them don't. I wonder if these guys are afraid of gay guys being as agressively forward with them as guys tend to get with women?

Not meant as an attack against straight guys, just thinking out loud.

Telling a gay guy that you're straight is a bigger rejection than simply saying that you aren't interested.
Some guys think that pestering will persuade you girls eventually, but there isn't much you could do if the other person rejects you on the grounds that they are attracted to a different gender.

Let's keep everyone happy! Shepard initiates romance and no ninjamance. Yey! [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wizard.png[/smilie]

Yes, this. It solves ninjamance problem for everybody, even for straight people who just don't want to romance Ash or Kaidan or whomever.

Current poll of mine is dead tied between colored dialogue or no indications, though.

I think having an option to either enable it or disable it in settings might help. Then those who appreciate tone indicators can use it, and those who think it's obtrusive can turn it off.

But it'd look weird right, because I'm guessing using the tone indicator would make the line look like a paragon or renegade line...so even if you turn off the color, the line would still be there and it'd be pretty obvious that it's a love/flirt line eh? Dunno.

Well I wouldn't be bothered if a new character hit on me the first time we meet (like zevran in DAO). But I wouldn't want a character who has been with me the whole way hitting on me like garrus, for reasons that should be obvious.

I don't think anybody wants that.
The femshep romance with Garrus sort of implied he hadn't really considered it, but was up for trying new things. If he is a potential s/s romance then I bet it will start along similar lines.

I'm not sure about this, not being gay, but I think more gay guys are sensible about where to draw the line than straight guys, because they are used to the criticism and fear against them.  Most of the gay guys that hit on me were extremely polite, and respected my "straightness."  I've actually had a lot more discrespect from girls hitting on me, being way too aggressive or touchy in their advances and not stopping when I told them I wasn't interested (not a lot, but higher in % than the gay guys).

I think many straight guys get really upset or angry when gay guys hit on them because they can't stand the fact that a gay man might think of them "that way,"  or possibly fantasize about him.  I think it's just something you have to deal with.  You don't like straight, opposite-sex people thinking about you if they are especially rude or unattractive, but they are going to do it anyway: you just ignore it and don't think about it.  At least gay people are almost universally nice about it.

That's a pretty good conversation. I wish it wasn't buried in the romance dialogue. I think with some tweaks, it would have been great friend dialogue for both gender Shepards.

You don't want the character hitting on you because it would look cheap and unrealistic to you, not because it's offensive.  I would agree, I think if they are going to go that option with the returning characters, it needs to be a Shep-initiated dialogue, and you'd need to say a few things in a row to get that way.  That's how they did femshep-Garrus: you needed to show interest, and then confirm interest before Garrus even reciprocated.

I'm not sure? It depends. Sometimes lines on the left are paragon and renegade, sometimes they're "more information" lines, and sometimes paragon or renegade lines are on the right. Coloring is what makes you see that they're paragon or renegade (or rather, that they're charm or intimidate, but you get the idea). So if you 'turned off' the option, the line would just appear as another neutral grey-white line, like all other "more information/neutral dialogue" lines. Positioning might still be a hint, but it depends.

Do you want to know what I REALLY want on my dialog wheel? An option called "Random"! Pick it and your Shepard could say or do ANYTHING that can could fit the situation, for good or ill. You could insult, start a romance, or smack somebody. Obviously I wouldn't use it on my first playthrough, but maybe it could be a locked feature until you beat the game.

I honestly wouldn't mind if Shepard was able to flirt with more people and have them turn him/her down.

If Shepard was able to flirt with existing same-sex characters, and they turned him/her down, what would they say? Honestly I could imagine a long series of exchanges between Kaidan and MaleShep where he doesn't realize Shepard is hitting on him at first. That could be hilarious.

I'm sure this has already been done, but I haven't found the same poll in several of the most recent pages.

Which character do you want most for s/s romance? (also included option for "none.")

Hmm. Tali got the most votes, though the most being three isn't much.

Needs more results.

I would like Tali for an F/F myself. Kaidan for m/m or perhaps a new guy.

Honestly, I should just make a primer for making things clickable links and put it in my sig or something.

Surround your URL with {url] {/url} only using straight brackets [ ] instead of curly ones.

Also, voted. I will be interested to see how it comes out. I might make two companion polls later, one with female options and one with male options, to even things out a bit.

"Yea, I could eat."

"Yea, me too..."

"Commander, is something wrong with your eye...?"

@CGG

There's a firefox addon for that called linkification. That would be why I was lazy about it before, in addition to having trouble with the world chain link thing. Forgot other people don't have it.

Ah, now Tali, Miranda and Ash are tied, with Kaidan second.

No old characters is dominating now, though.

EDIT: Sorry, what was I thinking? No new means the opposite of what I mean.

Should probably mention that Casey debunked the no new character romances and insinuated that they'd be the s/s romances.

And I voted new character. No need to make any of my Sheps love lives more complicated by having more then one per love interest.

Now when we're talking about "same sex" romances, we're talking about having sex with the same person, right? I mean, monogamy is cool, and I think that should be an option. That means having your favorite snuggle bunny available in all games. I missed Ashley in ME2. *sniffle*

I think Bioware trying to force us to be promiscuous is just plain wrong.

In all honesty, I can think of a lot of things I'd like to see in the dialogue - clearer summaries, more involved conversations, and a continuation of conversation options even if a romance isn't being pursued. (Stupid calibrations.) But this is what I'd most like to see added to the generic conversation pile - the opportunity to flirt and get shot down. Something other than Samara's 'if I were younger I'd totally do you' rejection. I want to see more women turn Shep down. Enough with the 'can't say no to him' chick-magnet that is MShep. Burn his ham-handed flirting with fire and reduce it to smouldering ash.

In terms of m/m, I'm pretty flexible. What I wanted is happening: an m/m option for Shep. What I'd like is Kaidan, but a new guy would be good too. Even Kaidan is mostly because I'd like to have the opportunity to play on the built-up relationship between the characters, and I can't stand the ME2 options; a new character just isn't going to have that history. I understand why others don't want the established characters to be opened up, but I disagree; ultimately, though, that's just a difference of opinion. Others have their own preferences and justifications, but I doubt anyone is realistically expecting BioWare to deliver on all of them - or any of them. And I'll champion Ryzaki's choices: someone without daddy issues, who isn't a bucket of need, and who can take care of their own is preferable.

And no chest hair. It just looks weird rendered with existing character skins. Good chest hair is a next-gen graphics issue, I think.

Y'see, missing out on such wonderfully meaty dialog like this because I chose not to have a particular Shep in a romance with him does honestly anger me.  Not quite enough to type in caps, but does set my blood boiling.

Hopefully with the promise of better handled friendship dialogs we'll all get to see good stuff like this more often.
