I think many people agree they don't want DA2 to happen to ME3. :P I'll restate my stance: I support new LIs for bi/homosexual options. I do not support DA2-ification of the previously established characters.

If only one I'd take Joker.

Frankly any human male other than Jacob will do.

No, you take Jacob and you LIKE IT!  : P

Best option - James Vega and Liara bi. Everybody else stays the same

I agree. But I'd even just make James -only- gay. More realistic that way. (And no, I'm not saying bisexual is unrealistic. It's just having -every- same-sex lovin' character getting with anything that moves regardless of sex is just getting a little old. In my opinion that is.)

Ugh...
We can't have a completely new person as the only "bi" choice...We didn't have the past events/connections with them at all, unlike the others.
And Liara is already "bi" (If you'd like to put it that way.), so that isn't fun.
I'm stickin' by my almost all of ME1 squad having the option available...(Kaidan/Ashley, Liara, Tali and Garrus.)

This doesn't bother me, I just don't want it to make whole sale character experiences shallower if you don't romance them. I honestly feel like I miss out on a good deal of dialog when I don't romance someone, in terms of who they are or groundbreakingly changing their personality (i.e. Jack)

I agree with this completely. I hated the abruptness when you reached the point of romance when you couldn't romance the person.

FemShep got all close to Miranda, helped her with her sister, got to know her, then suddenly "Well, bye for the second half of the game, I won't talk anymore."

Put in a platonic option :D Something where they can go get drinks and get to know each other in the same way as the romance, but as friends.

I have a good deal of faith in the Mass Effect writing team when it comes to Character Development to not be worried about this in the slightest.

Tali in ME1: "I'm not interested in Shepard."
Tali in ME2: "I've always been interested in Shepard!"

Liara in ME1: "Paragon FTW! I love Shepard!"
Liara in ME2: "Renegade FTW! I don't have time for Shepard."

Ashley/Kaiden in ME1: "I love Shepard!"
Ashley/Kaiden in ME2: "I hate Shepard!"

Wrex in ME1: "Screw helping my people."
Wrex in ME2: "I need to help my people!"

The Mass Effect writing team have shown that they can do superb character development arcs within a single game (this is evidenced in both ME1 and ME2 taken as seperate games) but I don't share your faith in their ability to do convincing character developments across games, based on what I've seen so far.

Two years have passed and Shepard died - things change. Tali's was the unrequieted love. Kaidan/Ashley mourned and moved on (though one easily argues that it was derailing), Liara went through the events of Redemption and Wrex wanted to help his people in ME1 but couldn't. After defeating Saren, it gave him a new sense of fulfillment, a sense of confidence if you would that he can do something. I can tell you right now I'm not the same person I was two years ago. For better or wose.

Actually it would be nice to have a gay/lesbian exclusive character.

Just so I can see how quickly people start complaining about them only being available to same/sex Shepard.

The sheer hypocrisy will be glorious to watch.

Available to both genders: Kaidan and Miranda, maybe also Jack and Jacob, plus Liara of course.
Available to MaleShep only: Tali, Ashley
Available to FemShep only: Garrus, Thane

Hellz naw! I have a hard enough time not LI'ng her as dude Shep. Like I said, keep them how they are. Let Vega and Liara be the bi options.

As much as it pains me to compromise, yes this is probably the best solution, as long as James Vega isn't handled in a Dragon Age 2 Anders manner.

I feel so sorry for you. Two bi LI's? Oh, the agony.

Though I do agree that is the best solution.

if
dialogue is going to be included to initiate a s/s
relationship.....repercussions should be included as well. cuz im pretty
sure not all characters are going to made bi/gay now. if shep wants to push the issue with a character that isnt written as open to it...and informs shepard by
ignoring the statements, changing subjects, or throws out more obvious
hints that they dont appreciate it. cuz No means no shep....drop it!

A male Shepard never had a chance to flirt with Garrus, Thane, Kaidan, Jacob.
A Female Shepard never had a chance to flirt with Ash and Miri.

You
don't know how they would act, all you can do is assume. If Garrus or
anyone else is bi in ME3, it's no diffrent then what they did with
Garrus and Tali in ME2.

we are talking about ME3.

So am I, so congrats on ignoring what I said.

----------------------------------copy/pasted-------------------------------------------------------------

yup. EXACTLY we dont know.... femshep/sheploo never got the chance to s/s flirt cuz it wasnt written into the final game!! now it is for ME3...and flirting should have the possibility of negative consequences as well positive ones..depending on WRITTEN character reactions to the flirting.

.THATS WHY dialogue could be included to inform SHEPARD that they dont play that....especially if they throw out the hints that they arent interested yet Shep (THE PLAYER) wants to force the issue.  It wouldnt be right to have all characters magic-wanded GAY just to make them GAY! a few....okay...but not all. it wouldnt be realistic!

I'm fine if we only get one male and one female that are bi but doubt we'll see a full-blown, gay companion for either gender (even in Origins, the same-sex options were bisexual).

I'd like to see more than that but don't want to rock the boat. There's already 9 love-interests to keep up with for the writers, adding variation for the same-sex option should exist but I doubt it will get as much attention as it deserves.

For what it's worth, I feel like the following characters could safely be written as bisexual (since most of them were originally):

Miranda
Kaidan
Jack
Garrus
Tali

So long as the writer's don't make the characters have a dramatic shift in personality or attitude and provide clear indicators in the dialogue in relation to romance/flirting, things should be good.

It's called social cues. You know someone likes someone based off of their voice pitch, how close or not they stand to someone, and how they generally react to you do they give you their full attention or try to run away. This gives amazing insight into how people are orientation wise. People don't need to ask are you into them they can see it by your unconscious reactions and moves.

It's the same for how you know someone is angry for instance Ash on Horizon has a neutral tone, she either hugs or gives you a handshake, all this does nothing to indicate she is mad yet she blows up at you her social cues are all wrong.

EDIT: And I suppose for the thread I'm going to have to state yet again all prior LI form ME - ME2 should not join the gay/bi bandwagon and be left alone. BW however can s/s brand new 3 characters like Vegas be bi they're new, unknown, and aren't established.

Truthfully I wouldn't mind. What you eat don't make me sh*t is my motto. If they want to introduce an exclusive gay or lesbian character have at it. Just leave the existing characters the way they are.

This is fine if it is done correctly. As preciously mentioned, same-sex options should make sense for the character with whom these relationships are being pursued. If Garrus were to suddenly show a romantic interest in male Shepard, that would be completely out of character and in my opinion, would really infringe on the 'homeboy'-like relationship many male shep players feel with Garrus.

Another thing that I feel is extremely important is that, whatever male character is a romance option for male shep, really ought to be well designed. By that I mean, this character shouldn't be 'hitting on' male shep unless you've RP'd your male shep in such a manner. All my male shepards are blatantly heterosexual, and it would be very unfortunate if the same-sex option were unable to 'get a read' on my shepards and determine he was heterosexual without making some sort of advance. That being said, my male shepard should be able to a well-developed NON-ROMANTIC relationship with this character, and this character ought to be completely fine with that.

In DA2 I felt Anders was a little pushy and didn't respect the fact that my male Hawk was heterosexual, and I really hope that's not the case in ME3

For what it's worth, and for all that I've been championing s/s inclusion in the game, I value character consistency as much as anyone else, and I also think an "all bisexual" squad would be a bit odd. I have ideas about which characters I think make the most sense as bisexual options, but I'm not going to insist that BioWare implement any certain characters that way. It's enough for me that they acknowledge that this is an option that many people would like to see in the game. If it's James Vega, Kaidan, Joker, or whatever, as long as it's a human male for MaleShepard, my Sentinel will be happy. My female Adept already has Liara, but I would also like to see a female human other than Kelly added to the mix for female Shepard. Heck, if they developed a really strong Kelly storyline, I'd even be happy with that, but right now Kelly is kind of one-note.

My strongest hope is for good writing, and good non-romance paths for ALL the characters. Believe it or not, it's not all about romance for me. ;)

I'll be honest, only one I was aware of was Kaidan.  Are there recorded dialogue lines for the others?

Miranda was originally intended to be bi, Jack states that she is bi, Garrus says he doesn't prefer humans by will make an exception for Shepard (why can't this apply to both genders?), Tali flirts with a female Shepard (not sure if Tali knows what her sexuality is yet)
