People is painting relationships in a way that's factually inaccurate according to what we now so far. Casey Hudson has said pretty clearly they will be reactive to you, not the other way around. You start it, the same way Femshep starts the Garrus romance. At first, he doesn't even know what you mean (he thinks you're talking about sparring), and you have to pick the romance option one more time to clarify what you meant. That's how it's gonna be, people.
"They will ask you for a shag" or "that's it, now they want your ass" are, simply, factually false statements. Please keep in mind what we know about romances before trying to make them look bad.
How do you know this for fact? I bet they considered all DA romances to be reactive to you. You picked dialog lines didn't you?
BW does put words and actions into Shepard that players find inhibits their roleplay and they say I wouldn't have done or said that or I wish I didn't have to buddy buddy with Liara in LOTSB or the big flap over Arrival or fem shep overtly flirty with Jacob, Zevran outright hitting on and propositioning s/s players, perceived punishments for certain actions which is moralizing on BWs part, and I could go on.
There are legitimate concerns on how they are going to do it. Some people are opposed period and can't be helped. I think BW needs to do a better job than they had in the previous games to make more unobtrusive while some vocal people here want it to be confrontational/visible to promote their perceived rights. Most of the stuff I will brush off, however repeating mistakes is not acceptable. There has to be a way to make it neutral to all sides that they haven't tried yet. However doing so may water down and cheapen all romances.
As I suggested earlier a toggle doesn't have to be all negative. If say you install (optional m/m) then you can have more interactive content. Like flirting and maybe a better end scene than fade to black after and embrace or a kiss if that. They wouldn't have to be conservative about it at all since you have to check install option at beginning. Conversely it could remove hetero flirting that some may find offensive. Just an idea that they could be better romances if BW didn't have to worry about offending heteros.
I agree they probably won't be that tasteless by having a gay character outright say let's do it with no previous interest shown by the player given past reactions to Zev and Anders.
Until we get the game no one but BW knows the content and direction of the romances. No one knows how the romances are going to shape out so minimization is not a proper response.
