So, what would that make my fiance?  He does enjoy football when the Packers are playing (raised in chedderhead country), but is able to sing several tunes from Sweeny Todd?

Bi obviously,  or possibly had a goth phase?

Definitely no gothness from him.  He's more like Weird Al in the White and Nerdy video.

So...potential bi in denial?

Does he like Glee? You'd be in trouble then :D

One thing to keep in mind is that the devs see romances as optional things that are added simply to please fans, and don't care much about 'realism'.

If they did, why don't they include gay only companions? It's b/c of meta reasons...they don't want to limit options for heterosexual Shepards as more people do those types of romances. No one seems to complain about this 'pandering'....

I think this is lame though. I'm a heterosexual male and I'd use a gay male companion in my party if his personality was cool, he had good dialogue, and his voice actor was solid.

The fact that they are afraid to just create a character and have that charcater be who they are, unabashedly, unapologeticly just stinks. Do they think the fans can't accept that kind fo thing? No one else finds that kind of insulting?

Now this I can agree with. :) I think you were a bit wrong with the you can tell in 10 minuets, but this is correct, imo.

I'm straight i work with gays and lesbians and I'm glad when BW adds diversity to their games.  I'd like to see a couple of characters who have specific ss interest.  I would like the option to say thanks, but no thanks if I'm flirted with, but I'd actually like that for any of the characters.

This^ and not only that, same sex partners still have the anthropological social traits to be a parent as well, the trait doesn't diminish because of an inability to procreate.

As a side note, you guys should be thankful for our inability to procreate. If we want children, we can just as easily take care of all the abandoned kids of actual 'breeders'.

Now where would those little buggers be without us? :wizard:

Note, I didn't say that homosexual cannot procreate, only that it is an inability. They can go through invitro, etc to have their own children if they so please. Homosexuals adopting kids isn't beneficial because they can't have kids from natural interactions, and so they take the unwanteds. Many gay couples use their own DNA provisions to have their own. It's beneficial for the kids because they get adopted (hopefully at least) by anyone that will love them dearly, regardless of orientation. The desire to be a parent spans all adults and adoption isn't just somehting that the gay community does to help those little unwanted buggers. Anyone loving enough wants those little buggers. I opted not to have children and adopted myself.

I applaud anyone who adopts or takes in foster kids :-)

Isn't this a S/S thread? Even between you guys all the talk is about how straight people act Posted Image. Somewhat ironic.

Technically it's about the ME3 romances, but that hasn't stopped anyone yet!

Lets see, if your straight you can't enjoy a musical unless it has "hot" girls in skimpy costumes and you have to love football where guys slap each other on the butt.

My husband too, so I think the point I was making is you can't always tell by talking to someone or watching them if they are gay.  A guy I worked with was gay,  he was always being hit on by one of the female students because he was cute and didn't "look or act" gay.

This again! Well, I approve of any sexuality in any media, simply because it is a human trait afterall (in the context of the topic anyway). So why hide it and then demonize it because one isn't like the other in spite of our common "humaness".

I, demonize homosexuality? Excuse me, but I do have a few homosexual friends and could care less who they bed with. I am only 20, and I have been grown up with the notion that we respect everyone, regardless of their race, age, or sexual orientation. I am not the byproduct of an older era. Now, you are just off your rocker there. Stop generalizing those of us who disapprove of ret-cons.

Where is it canon in the ME series that Tali was straight in orientation? Where is it ever mentioned by her or any other character in the ME series that she is straight? She wasn't even romanceable in ME1 anyway. Bottom line is, the game is an RPG, and you can choose to play her to the orientation you wish, so it really shouldn't be an issue.

You know, if BioWare set it up that way to begin with, I would have less of an issue with that. But, having Tali, for example, be available to only those who play as male Shepards point to some sort of attempt by BioWare to enforce a degree of uniformality for the characters.

Same as I mentioned above since her orientation has never been mentioned, so retconning cannot apply. Play ME2 and she all but says she would join suits with a femshep.

And, what does this suggest? That comment can be interpreted in a variety of ways, and your interpretation is probably no more convincing than my interpretation of that comment.

Now you're just generalizing the whole as to demonize homosexuality again. You have a chocie to be or not to be when playing an RPG, it really is that simple..

Again, with the ad hominem attacks. "You disapprove of having a character's sexuality ret-conned, so you must hate gay people!"

I'm not the one who generalized and not even that, also I didn't patronize a certain group wholesale. You also ignored the fact that Tali is not retconned (do you understand the term 'retcon'?), please show where Tali was portrayed as straight in ME1, when she wssn't even a romance option. I can show you where she hints as a s/s relationship with femshep in ME2.

This thread is both hilarious and extremely sad simultaneously. I see pages and pages and pages of arguments, all centered around personal beliefs of how straight these fictional characters are. In reality, there is plenty of content in the first 2 games to lead just about anyone to believe that almost all past squad members could be attracted to the same gender type/style (I'm not even going to use the term same sex, crickets and lizards and horny toads don't even begin to compare on the same level as humanoid species).

As long as the thread is full of ignorant homophobes, the arguments will never end.
Sad thread stays sad.

Good points. I've played both MEs down to every word countless times. I played DA:O 14 times, and I cannot tell you how many times I played previous Bioware RPGs (BGs I lost count) over and over again. In all that, I never really thought about who is who in sexuality for the characters in the games, it simply did not matter. I take the game for what it is and play the dialogue out for what it offers me. I just wish the world could move on from noting what is straight, gay, bi, whatever and just start allowing ourselves to be humans.

Playing as a femshep, there is nothing to suggest Tali has never considered s/s relationships.
Playing as a maleshep, there is nothing to suggest that Garrus wouldn't be up for it if you asked. (seeing as there is no stigma attached to it in Turian culture)

It's only in male playthroughs that you get to see Tali choosing a dude. Having her a s/s relationship for femsheps in ME3 wouldn't be retconning anything. Tali couldnt have a s/s relationship in ME3 if you're playing as a maleshep.

That's completely true...in my game, there's absolutely positively zero indication that Tali likes dudes at all.

My FemShep is starting to wonder about her

I want Tali. AND JACK!:wub::wub::wub:

And I'm a girl btw XD

Someone could easily mention the "Liara argument"

"Well she doesn't count as s/s because she is an ALIEN!"

By that logic aren't Tali and Garrus? That would mean they don't have genders like humans do. They aren't considered male or female because they are aliens as well.

Also, when you watch the videos of the creation of the Asari race they distinctly said "we wanted to create an entirely female race."

The game said they were going to include s/s relationships. Just accept it and stfu.

True, we shouldn't assume everyone who is against this is straight. If anything, it would probably be safer to assume they're not. A lot of this stuff sounds remarkably like the stuff self-hating closeted gays might say. Most straight guys I know heard this news and said "Don't care. Have you heard if Miranda is coming back?":wizard:

Also, I'm starting to like Joker as m/m LI even more than Kaidan.<3

How do you think the reconciliation between Shepard and the VS will turn out to be? "alright the alliance put us together again but I still don't like it, you Cerberus tool" way or something more like "Oh Shepard I'm so sorry now I see how wrong I was" way? Also, should it be different depending on whether or not Shepard romanced him/her?

This is the sort of holier-than-thou attitude I complained about yesterday.

Please do not make the mistake that dissent towards the inclusion of bi characters is the same thing as homophobia.

Nah, that's just lovely and sexy.

By the same logic straight women want rugged, stubbly, rough faced, muscular mountain men.

Gay women;"oh, I want a curvy, soft-skinned beauty..."

Straight is the new gay, and we're just awesome. :wizard:

Intriguing question.

I think there'll be several factors.  Romanced, cheated on, whether you paragon/renegaded them.

What would you call it? Seriously, you guys should hire Charlie Sheen to do your PR.

We get a one-line tweet from Casey Hudson saying "hey, s/s options in ME3!" and you guys spend this much energy saying NO!!!!!!!...and it's not homophobia? It's something-phobia. We can call it something more specific, like two-dudes-doing-each-other-phobia or something like that. Semantics.

Me too. Jacob would be fun as well. Or a new guy. Who is really really macho because that would be so hot in a M/M romance.
