Having one of the previous characters change in ME3 does not work for me.  Having new characters does.

Finally, the voice of reason.  I'm not against it, just against Kaidan being it.  I would definitely welcome new characters who are gay and happy to have them on my team I just don't want those who have been in game since the beginning to be retconned and whether people want to believe it or not, it is retconned.

I'm sorry if Kaidan being gay is going to ruin your romance,  I'm sure he won't leave you for James Vega unless you were a total ass to him.

At the very least ExtremeOne is honest and doesn't try to hide their homophobia behind some fake pretense.  Thanks for that at least!  I honestly prefer it to those who obfuscate.

The first justification they used was "retcon!" While I don't think this is necessarily the case, I would accept it as a valid concern. Then when Casey tweeted that they would be adding new LIs, it became "Well, Shepard's never been gay." It was telling. Basically, they're uncomfortable with it for some reason, even when there's nothing contradictory whatsoever in it's implementation, and they're couching this in "concern for story." Wereparrot especially, was grasping at straws.

It is a retcon but I can deal with it by not buying ME 3 . This is a case of fan service is more important than creating Shepard's story.  But how dare you talk down to us that have a legit issue with this content being added to the game .  Shepard was straight in both games unless you include Liara but she does not matter she is a stupid alien .  They lost a ME 3 player in me and I will never buy any of their games again .

Weren't you not buying the game anywhere?  What with cerberus being evulz?

You could look over the story, but not gay content... that is HILARIOUS.

If it doesn't matter to you about alien LIs, do you care if alien characters become bisexual LIs? For that matter, you intend to kill the VS or let them stay on the ship anyway, so if it's them, why do you care?

Also, Kelly. Femshep+Kelly=possibility to play a lesbian or bisexual Shepard with a non alien LI.

Dear, I know. But it will give me a warm fuzzy feeling to hear Mr. Extreme One say a Cerberus crew member doesn't count.

K. Thanks for playing. We'll let you know how ME3 turns out. Buh-bye!:wizard:

(because not buying a game because someone else could play a Gay Shepard is perfectly reasonable.)

I never said I was not buying it because someone else could play as a character who loves the same sex.
I am not buying it because of the content in the game . Even though it is optional its stil content with in the game. I have no problem with female and female sex . I do have a strong and deep issue with male and male sex. That is why I am refusing to by this game .

Or....
whether people want to believe it or not, it is NOT retconned.

Seriously, are you the creator of the Mass Effect universe and the characters contained within?  ...Thats what I thought.

When one of the writers comes in here and says "Yes, we did/didn't retcon" then everything is an assumption, because noone here has all the details to be able to state that as a fact.

So assuming that there is a new female character who will become bisexual LI...what do we want from her?

TBH I'm not sure what I'd like to see that isn't really already covered in some way but the other female characters. Miranda is the femme fatale, Ashley is the grunt bff, Tali is the engineer with a schoolgirl crush, Jack is the crazy ****....anything else seems like it would have to overlap in someone territory.

"I support gay Shepard, but only if both chicks are hot."

You do realize it's in the game already, right? The disk you played on has cut m/m content floating around.

Way to contradict yourself...

So, you're sexist as well as homophobic now?
Frankly I don't think anyone cares if you don't get the game. You belong in a past century, not a future one.

People don't seem to know what retcons are.

Mass Effect 2 is filled to the brim with retcons. Any information about events during or prior to Mass Effect 1 that was added in Mass Effect 2 constitutes an additive retcon. Why didn't people drop the franchise at that point? Why ignore retcons to the very base story of the game, and get so damned upset about a retcon within a small and entirely optional part of the game?

I'm of the opinion that if someone can show me where in ME1 or ME2 Garrus/Tali/Kaidan/Ashley's sexual orientation is stated, then I'll agree that having those characters have any other orientation in ME3 would be defined as a retcon. Otherwise, it is just a case of the writers furthering their personal story so that certain things about themselves are not revealed till ME3.

And...No. Kaidan having been in love with some girl before ME1 is not "proof" that he is straight. There'd be nothing wrong with assuming that he is, actually it'd be a pretty logical assumption. This, however, does not mean that it is a fact.

I want a shotgun-toting, turian female vanguard with a penchant for Bond one liners and total respect for the rules. Someone who represents normal turian lawfulness.

That, or a blonde with grey eyes. I love that look.

Oh ExtremeOne, the more you post the more I think your a parody of the enraged video game consumer.  You're like pure unadulterate satire,  like Anne Coulter.  You can deny it all you want,  I know your secret... your actually a rational person shining the light on fan rage.

Noted.

On another note, I've started a topic in the Fight For The Love group to keep track of these "conscientious objectors", so that we can later see which ones held true to their vow to not buy ME3 because of The Gay. So far, we have ExtremeOne and massive-effect. If any of you know of any others, let me know, or post them in the group. It's easy to lose track of promises like these, and I want to make sure these gestures receive the notice that is their due.

There is some holier-than-thou attitude in this thread. I think it's fair to say you don't want characters to be made bi if your worried that they'll change the character of a character. If they do it right it could work but if not...

Yeah...and the anti-gay folks are being SO respectful. What was that one from yesterday "s/s fanatics?" Hmmm, yeah, not respectful. When people come in and say "I don't mean to offend but [insert blatantly offensive statement here]", you can't claim the high road on a technicality.

This is typical, by the way. You can't beat us with logic, because logic is clearly on our side, so you call us "holier-than-thou". This is often code for "they're right, and they know it".

and you don't call this hollier-than-thou? I really don't see why you guys try to pick fights when people aren't even trying to fight with you. I said nothing in my post that you should take issue with. I said yesterday fanatics might not have been a proper term, but when a thread has reached 5,500 posts in 5 days what is it?

"Worrying about changing the character" here is just a popular euphemism for old-fashioned homophobia. If the characters are allowed to become bisexual, then they're instantly trash in your view. No good. Filth. Someone else's toy. Everyone else's toy.

i.e., they would no longer be specifically tailored for just your type, and such a lack of exclusivity/segregation undermines you to the point where everytime you look on some long-beloved pixels, it's as if the world's gone to hell.

It would be simpler if you faced up to the fact that much of the time your beloved in ME/DA/KOTOR/JE already happens to be many other people's toys at the same time that they're with you. Oh, but the majority of those interactions are str8 interactions. Easier for you to tolerate! The toy is playing by the rules. Yet if they become open to S/S, then the competition will have heated up faster than you would've allowed. The game definitely has changed.

I like you for helpfully pointing out this feeding frenzy inspired by the S/S development in ME3. This here is something actually worth doing instead of the stereotypical recycled crap in most people's "games."
