Overpopulation aside since that's personal opinion since there should be enough resources on planet Earth to enable every single one to live comfortably and that is obviously not the case. And then you play into my capitalists beliefs (staunch capitalist by the way).

Aside overpopulation, the ratio of homosexuals to heterosexuals is no where near levels that would pose ANY risk to population levels. Get real.

Uh, I never said they would be.  Maybe you're mistaking me for someone else, or misunderstanding.

Apologies - I was quoting someone who had quoted you. That's who I was responding to. My bad. :pinched:

I've been away for awhile, do we have any more "I'm not gonna buy ME3 because of teh gay!!!" proclamations? I really do want to keep track. I see we've got a new batch of folks fighting for the exclusion-of-non-mandatory-optional-content-not-aimed-at-their-demographic-and-not-replacing-content-they-prefer. Hmmm, you know that's kind of a mouthful, they need a catchier name, anybody got any ideas?

Liara has been in both games so far, a potential hookup with femShep and I haven't seen whining of this magnitude about that.

Personally, I take the more casual approach; I see the game as a piece of interactive media that is intended for recreational purposes, and I want it to be fun for me, even if this comes at the expense of 'realism'. It may not be 'realistic' (see 'statistically probable') that a certain percentage of squadmates are bi, but it certainly opens up the possibility of more 'fun' in the sense that it allows more people to enjoy the content. I want fun more than I want to be reminded that homosexuals constitute a minority. I don't mind if certain characters are shown to be bi after several games because I acknowledge that I'm playing a game that was developed to cater to many different people who want different things, so the more options available the better. Empathy.

I have no need of any of the male romances, regardless of their hetero or ****** inclinations but I still want them both included for those who would enjoy such things.

Empathy as you say.

It's only same-sex if they're the same sex as me!
Waah-waah-waah.

Hmm, let's see... while on the discussion of romances (and let's face it, we need more asari nonsense), for all of us who romanced Liara:

If Liara had the exact same personality, exact same history and outlook, would you still romance her if asari had been all-male?
And for those who didn't romance Liara, would you feel more inclined to do so if she had been male?

All I want, Bioware. Is for my Shepard that romanced Ashley to leave her for Garrus.

Is that so wrong?

Nope.  My Shep likes women, and Liara is a woman.  Liaro the alien dude would be a very close friend, though.

There seems to be an irreconcilable rift between fans in regards to the romance issue, and I say romance because s/s is only one aspect of it, albeit the one that garners the most vocal disagreement. I'm not sure it can ever be resolved. For a moment, I'm going to ignore the rabid anti-s/s crowd and leave the whole 'Shep can't/shouldn't be gay' nonsense out of it. The way I see it, there are two main factions in this thread; fans who desire the game to have a very tight narrative that reflects realism at all cost, and those that take a more casual approach and think of the game as a game. Both views have their merits (to a degree).

While I'm not against same sex romance, I cannot agree with this mentality.

There are plenty of games out there if you're just looking for wish-fullfilment.

Mass Effect is among the games with a good plot. Why would you want to sacrifice mood and narrative for the sake of fanservice?

Turning every character bi just to cater to a larger audience is a cheap, tasteless move that only weakens the game itself and the series' credibility.

But in quite a lot of cases people would have no issue, if the hookups WOULD have been an option for two games or at least since ME2.
It can't be all blamed on "those cursed men only like lesbians but hate gay men!"

I think it depends on more than that....design and voice ARE pretty major aspects of this. At least to me they are, even though I'm male and straight.

I think women are beautiful. I think men are beautiful. A humble, tolerant, compassionate, and kind person is beautiful.

Thank You BioWare for giving me m/m and f/f romances in ME3! You are the best. <3

That all depends on your perception...as a hetro woman, I find men so much more enticing...would rather be looking at handsome men...women, meh.

And how, exactly, do mood and narrative suffer? I fail to see how making romances more widely available somehow jeopordizes the integrity of the plot or makes characters shallower. Ashley not being a female LI didn't magically make the mood of ME1 better, or somehow strengthen the narrative.

I kind of fall in the middle, but I tend to lean more toward lolwut666's viewpoint. I don't think characters should be dictated solely by the fans' desires, they have their own arc and the writers should stay true to that even if that goes against what the fans ask for sometimes. I tend to think new s/s characters is the best way to go. And hopefully the next Mass Effect universe game will have some s/s characters from the beginning. I do think one or two characters that we've already met could realistically be bisexual with minimal fuss (Kaidan and Miranda seem like the natural choices to me), but I don't think they absolutely must be bisexual either.  I could see them realistically being straight or bisexual. I think if anyone could pull it off, it's BioWare, because I had written off Mordin, Samara, and Legion as "fanservice" characters based on the early reports of ME2, but those three became my favorites. The "funny salarian squadmate" ended up being a deep and resonant character—while still being a funny salarian squadmate. The hot asari babe with acres of cleavage turned out to be a serene and mystical warrior, who was also resolute and implacable—AND she won't sleep with Shepard. Teh Awesome. And Legion completely made the geth interesting to me, whereas before they were just things to kill. So I'm thinkin' BioWare can do some good stuff no matter which way they go here. ^_^

@Olwydd

Ashley being a female LI doesn't hurt the narrative; Ashley, Miranda, Tali, Jack and whoever else being a female LI does because there shouldn't be a bisexual at every turn. Suspension of disbelief can only take so much.

I'm a hetero woman too, but I think men and women are beautiful. I'm an artist though, and I think humans are the most beautiful subject there is. Women, men, beauty is beauty. And it's not always the textbook "ideal" types that are the most beautiful. A few well-placed "flaws" can make all the difference between generic and gorgeous.:kissing:

Sure,  but, the thought of an all male race that can impregnate
anything WITH THEIR MIND... is terrifying.  I must admit the possibility
for MPREG shepherd is hilarious though.
