gtez Jesse 'GTez' Houston
@Maugrimm Huh?

@Maugrimm
@gtez Well if Liara isn't a girl/woman/female then from the perspective of MShep their relationship is at the very least genderqueer nay?

I don't like that they are forcing this down our throats. Where if you don't "come out", then someone else will anyways.

I'm not saying I don't like gay people or whatever, but I feel like Shepard is already established as a heterosexual figure, and the fact they are just now introducing this in ME3 when the Reapers are invading...it's just dumb.

"Hey guys, I know were fighting the Reapers and stuff, and everything is going to hell but...I'm gay!"

Really?

When and where is it specifically stated that Shepard is straight?

Just wondering... >.>

Because there is no canon Shepard to say that all Shepard's are straight.

It may just be me...but I seriously think Samara is ugly and her breasts are a main reason why. And I'm a straight dude. I LOVE breasts!

Still not a fan of the face, but it does look better with actual eyes instead of those things Samara has. :unsure: They scare me.

I don't like that they are forcing Tali down our throats. Where if you don't flirt with her, then she will anyways.

I'm not saying I don't like Talimancers or whatever, but I feel like Shepard is already established as a non-quarian-molesting figure, and the fact they introduced this in ME2 when the Collectors are abducting human colonies...it's just dumb.

"Hey guys, I know were fighting the Collectors and stuff, and everything is going to hell but...I want dat ass!"

See what I did there?

So in answer to your question, yes, really. Fortunately for your throat, you'll still be able to play Shepard as a straight dude. All you have to do is nothing at all.

Huh?  They're not forcing anything down your throat. If your Shepard is straight, then he/she will remain straight.  If you chose to keep the collector station, then you didn't blow it up.  Etc....

I agree that asari would view human females as the most similar to themselves in appearance, but I can't really say what affect that would have. If anything, the "pureblood" stigma might make them less attracted to human females, being as how they look the most asari-like of aliens. I would even venture to say that would apply to male humans as well, because to asari and other aliens, the "huge" differences we see in human genders might seem rather less pronounced. Asari might fixate on human hair, since it's the most obvious difference between the two species, and less on the fact that male humans tend to be somewhat larger and have undeveloped breasts. Asari might see male humans as resembling very young asari who haven't yet developed breasts, that would seem to be the closest visual reference for them, especially male humans who aren't physically imposing. For very bulky male humans like Jacob, an asari might think he looks like a cross between an asari and a turian or something, what with turians having such a massive shoulder region. In any case, I doubt that asari have the same exact feelings and perceptions that we humans have, and all sorts of things are possible regarding their thought processes in selecting mates.

I think, regardless, there are 'plot holes' in the asari being attracted to those that don't look much like them.  They did evolve for milenia just mating with other asari.  Given that there does seem to be a physical component to mating as well as the mental magic it would make sense to me that their would be a physical component of attraction as well.

The only basis for my statements is that we can't ascribe human motivation to asari simply because they look so much like us. They might rely more on other senses when evaluating potential mates. Being that all asari are naturally biotic, they might value a particular type of biotic 'resistance' in a mate over any visual attributes. We don't know, they're aliens, and they're not saying one way or the other.

What concerns me is that these potential problems are hand-waved away as 'no biggie' as they benefit a hetero-sexual pairing, while anyone trying to support a claim that a human LI could be bisexual gets attacked pretty harshly by some around here, and this potential bisexual human must 'totally make sense as bi' or it's no good....it's all or nothing here....  It's heteronormativity at work, of course, but I don't particularly like it much.

I don't like heteronormativity either, and I certainly don't think you and I are that far off in how we feel about this issue. But I would also avoid anthropomorphism with sapient aliens, because that can cause all sorts of erroneous conclusions to be drawn. That's all I was tryin' to say. :)

One person's "too late" is another person's "better late than never". I would err on the side of inclusion.

For the record, I think this whole Twitter thing was a bad idea. I don't think Jesse Houston was saying anything against Liara, against same-sex, or anything like that, I think his intent wasn't communicated well initially, but I think the response may have done more harm than good. :?

Still arguing the toss over this gay thing? Really?

Nobody is forcing anything down anyone's throat. Unless you enjoy it. Hey, maybe that's what it's all about! You secretly enjoy having it forced down your throat but are nervous as all hell to admit it!

*pulls up a chair*

It's okay to be into the same sex, y'know? Even the jocks are kissing each other in Glee these days. If it's in Glee, it's acceptable.

'Tis never too late for same sex romances. I think the prospect of finally being able to roleplay a homosexual male Shepard is quite exciting, and something that has been sorely lacking in the series thus far.

FemSheps have been able to do so since the first game, and DudeSheps are finally being given that opportunity. It's cool.
