There seems to be two main camps of argument here. One is for s/s romances and want inclusiveness without taking away from anyone else's game. The other is against s/s romances and wants to take away from other people even though it doesn't effect them. Hmm.

Let me pose this question then... if the new s/s romances are only with new characters, will people against s/s romances have a problem with this? To clarify, the established characters will be left as they are.

I think it's the timing of it that's got people riled as much as anything...

So it looks like it'll probably be new characters from Hudson's latest tweet.

I really, really hope they're human. I like my romances free of mandibles, scales, and exo-suits.

i agree. the alien romances feel pretty forced and awkward. not to mention makes absolutely no sense in regards to the games lore.

Key word EVERYONE. I don't mind to have 1-2, hell even male LI that is gay only wouldn't bother me. But everyone is just unrealistic.

I don't know why people keep posting this as an example of "bad writing". The sandwich line is the "whoa dude turn down the sap" deflection option. It works perfectly well in context :|

Because the options are immersion-breakingly out of place for what the context actually is. Had the "I'm hungry" line been "Relax, Anders" or something similar, it wouldn't have been out of place. But given the options, it harkens us back to the good old days of "NAME. JOB. BYE."

im not against s/s romances, im just against messing with established characters. especially ones that make no logical sense whatsoever *cough*garrus*cough*

You keep saying bad writing.

I don't think you really know what that is.

you're saying a long established friend of a character suddenly declaring love for another character with no build up or explaination or anything wouldnt be dumb?

if in season 5 of Lost if Jack turned to Saywer and said "i've always loved you, lets be together" wouldnt you react like "wait what? where'd that come from?"

Buildup and explanation couldn't happen over the course of the events of ME3? You act like it's going to be like this:

ME3 Title Card. Scene: Earth: Opening dialogue:

Kaidan: Hi Shepard. I'm totally into dudes. Do you love me?

Shepard: Option 1: Yes Kaidan, I totally wuv you, come here you!
Shepard: Option 2: I don't love you, Kaidan, but I am totally into dudes too, OMG.
Shepard: Option 3: I hate you Kaidan! But I am totally into dudes.

THAT is bad writing. I'm thinking BioWare can do better.

thank you for finally getting it....

i was saying "i dont want people to suddenly announce they're bi and jump into a relationship with them with no growth ect."
then everyone jumps down my throat saying "well its happened in real life, blah blah, bi people can be closeted for years!"

seriously, reread my posts. i was saying that.
you guys are absolutely crazily hostile to anyone with a slightly differing opinion than your own. its REALLY off-putting.

What makes you think the above scenario is actually going to happen though? Nobody wants THAT to happen, and it's not what we're asking for. We're asking for a m/m and f/f option, that's it.

Are people actually advocating a no-preamble all-bi free-for-all? I must have missed a few pages of this fast-moving thread. I hope you see that many of us who support same-sex options, are open to existing characters being bisexual, etc., do actually share some of your concerns about the quality of the writing. Anything on the level of the Tali romance would be a huge Do Not Want for me, that's for sure.

I liked Tali a hell of a lot more in ME2 than I did in ME1. Probably had something to do with the 'giving her things to do' part, if you'll pardon the pseudo-redundant.

There wasn't a single squadmate in ME2 that I thought completely lacked depth, though, and the majority of them impressed me more than what I found in the first game.

Agreed on both points.  Not that Wrex and Ashley didn't blow me out of the water with how well-written and human they were (and I am NOT an Ashley fan), but I guess ME2 had the advantage because a lot of times you really didn't see that depth coming.  For example, I've only recently discovered the merits of Jacob, whom I usually overlook because he doesn't want to talk about his personal problems and apparently makes FemShep horny.

Behold, awesome bromance convo and awesome romance convo.

You know, the more I play these games, the more I love everyone.  Even Kaidan, Liara, Miranda, and Zaeed, whom I had previously written off as "blech."

Anyway, TL;DR: Bioware has time and again shown that they can squeeze excellent characters into only one game, and returning characters aren't necessarily better since CAN IT WAIT FOR A BIT, I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF SOME CALIBRATIONS!?

But... they're not? It's the snark personality option. He's deflecting with a non-sequitur. You know, humor as a defense mechanism.

I felt that the humor was supposed to be in the delivery to the other character, not in the text choices the player chooses from.

But that's the joke reply, so you know it is probably going to be stupid and irreverent. Hell, I've cracked a joke like that.

"I love you."
"I love...cake."

Humor as a defense mechanism FTW.

Maybe, but what's definitely unrealistic is an entire crew of soldiers, thieves, mercs, and geniuses falling for the same person.

To be honest, I don't think it's a good idea to make every single past LI bisexual, given how many there are and how much dev time there is.

It worked in DA2 b/c there was only 4 of them....there's been 8 het-only LIs so far plus any new LIs.

Just because your bi does not mean you fall for the same person. That did not happen in DA2, Fen and Merrill only fell for you if you flirted with them, Izzy is Izzy. The only one who does is Anders and even then, he only does that if you pick the diplomic option. I don't see the issue at all.

They should just make Kaidan and Ash bi, that will make me very very very happy.

Not sure what you mean by that? At any rate, it's not necessarily supposed to be funny, but it is consistent with a sarcastic personality type Hawke intimidated by Anders's crazy intensity.

With all due respect, and I really mean that, that's a bit unrealistic and demanding for ME3. I'm pro s/s relationship for the most part, but you seriously can't expect everyone to be that way in game. I can see it for a few characters and we haven't even met any of the new ones yet.

Because I don't buy it that EVERYONE I know swing both way.

Why not flirt with someone who is straight and puts that character in awkward position.
Or even better, character you hit on is gay only and rejects you for that. That would be hilarious.
