Forget it...

I was trying to express that her wish for her family and humans in general to be respected would be a deterrent towards a relationship that could be considered negative or wrong in the eyes of fellow humans. Similar to the fact that social groups generally do not follow certain idea trends if these trends interfere with their long time goals.

Long story short: I personally think that Ashley would not be a proper character to initialize or be involved in a same sex relationship.

Yeah for all of DA2's gayness at least they were willing to talk if you weren't tumbling around with them. <_< Calibrations my ass.

Thankfully Hudson said they were aiming for more non-romance dialogue and interaction so hopefully that won't be so large an issue.

Say anything bad you want about the DA team but you have to admit they give the PC a great deal of conversations and character interaction without having to romance someone.

I was going to try playing DA this past weekend but ended up out of twon. Hopefully this weekend I can give this game a try. Posted Image

What part of "customizable character" do you children not understand? You would think that MaleShepard is going to get hit in the head with a disco ball in the opening scene of the game, then fall tumbling into bed with Kaidan, Garrus, AND James Vega. All set to a rockin' Village People soundtrack. Grow up already. Your precious HomophobeSheps will still be able to be huge douchebags in ME3, that's the beauty of a customizable character.

And...what is your reply to people that are not homophobe and don't mind gay relationships, but just don't want certain characters revealed as bi? Because..that is a very different issue and I must say, I find it offensive that every time this topic gets discussed, the word homophobe gets thrown around way too much.

So just because shep isn't gay and or that you don't want to play as a gay character that makes that person a douchebag? Grow up dude. This has actually been a pretty reasonable thread, I think everyone has been quite civill and then you show up and use ad hominem attacks!

I'd like to cast a vote against same-sex relationships for Male Shepard, because it goes against his orientation as prescribed in the first two games. So if same-sex relationships for John Shepard are available, it should only be if there was no love interest in the first two. That would be the only logical option in accordance with the storyline that's already been developed. The Commander can't compromise his standing in the last twenty minutes of battle. It's a story that has been built up for two-thirds of the plotline. Changing orientation would be one heck of a climax in the story...

What the hell are you talking about?

John Shepard has always been gay.  He was heartbroken when Mordin turned him down!  Can you blame him for thinking it was love, though?  After he caught Mordin and saved him from death during the fight with the Reaper?  After Mordin pulled him back aboard the Normady?  After how Mordin was always there for John, how John helped Mordin through the toughest struggle he'd ever faced when Maelon betrayed him?

He might have a thing for Jacob, too--the whole casually leaning against the table and insisting they "just talk for a bit."

Johnny's a poof, son.  He slept with women because he was afraid of his true feelings.  Mordin is his one true love (and Jacob is plan B)!

To me this is very important, why is it all of a sudden that Bioware finally decided to have same sex romances when they decided against it in the two past games, what changed? I am genuinely interested in how and why this decision was made... What was there reason for not doing this before?

Have you ever played on xbox live and listened to the comments people make in Halo 2/Halo 3?
I love that damn series but it gets intolerable in there. Mass Effect is marketed toward the shooter crowd AS well as Bioware fans, so I'm guessing that's the reason.

EDIT: I don't mean to say there's anything wrong with the shooter crowd, it's just the internet. Xbox live is an extenstion of the internet in a way, and subject to all the problems the internet has with people staying civil

It is obvious a gay man cannot save the galaxy. As he would be too busy being stereotypical to do anything else.

I am another person who would be happy with a "You start any romance, period." view on all romances. Anders threw my MaleHawke a curveball on that one, naturally I was a diplomatic character.

It was nice that ME2 allowed us to finally decide which character we romanced, yet it felt odd to me as a character when I had three romances available at once, and I could watch three romance cutscenes in sequence. Let me pursue a single or multiple relationship, just do not make that the only way to gain more dialogue.

And by the way "Shep isn't gay" is a false assumption, based on Fail Logic. There's no part of either game that forces Shepard to declare the he is heterosexual. She can even sleep with a female alien if she wants to, and watch a fellow female human do the stripper dance, and dry-hump afterward. That's so not gay, FemShep.

I understand that gay people do go to churches...It is just that Ashley's personality including both her sacrificial nature (trying to bring back her family honor) and her view of aliens could make her intimidated out of a same sex relationship...one more bullet whizzing by her head, if you will.

In ME2 Ashley seemed to have the hots from MaleShep quite well, I didn't even talk to her during the first game, I just thought that having the tech expert used at Virmire was a smart choice. Her speech about the commander made me wonder what she exactly did down in the cargo hold o.O

I can see where she wold not want to bring shame on her families name, but who is to say in the future that will be consider a "shame"? The strides the gay movement has made in the last 30 years has been amazing so in another 30 years who knows what will happen.

My femshep always felt that there could be more and on Horizon it felt even more so. But that could be my perception ... I would love for Ash to be an option as long as the story is done well. I think that Liara has been handled with class (not teenage boy pander) so if they do make her an option ... well. I still want her holding to her faith, loving her family and loving Shepard.

Why thank you!

Back on topic, I'm really happy that most people are pro same sex in Mass effect. Reasonable people can disagree about whether specific characters are gay in universe but this next generation just brought a tear to my eye, a tear of happiness!:)

It's an example of a shooter, the type of game Bioware seems to be trying to market, looking at ME2.

Never said it was fair or promised that it made sense. Just offered a possibility why ME is different from Dragon Age in this regard.

Why Ashley in particular? Couldn't another character or even better, a new character, play out this role? Personally I do not see Ashley as a bisexual in the least. Her religion could have an issue with it and she has the line with her sister involving Kaiden (my how a confrontation between Femshep and Ashley could have been planned, alas).

I would like to hear your thoughts on having Ashley as a bisexual in ME3.

Ashley being religious has nothing to do with it. Ash is a very blunt women, that's part of the reason I like her. Sure, she's a bit coquettish when pursuing Shep, but she never hides her feelings. If she had the hots for FemShep, she would have said something.

So I can't really see her being bisexual. Kaidan, maybe, there is that "losing you was like losing a limb" line on Horizon, but I still have doubts.

Frankly, if they do choose to make previously straight LIs options for both Shepards, I would first and foremost expect it to be Tali and Thane. That said, considering the retraction of "no new LIs" alongside the announcement of homosexual romances, I would expect the squadmates to conform to their previous characterizations and the new homosexual options to be James Vega and a new female character (who I'm all but certain will be added, if only to keep the gender ratio intact).

See, you should make it clear WHO you talk about. Because it does seem like a random attack against everyone that has an opinion that is not "yay, gay for everyone", even though some have concerns that can not be equaled with simple hate for all things homosexual and we wouldn't want a fight to occur simply because many feel insulted even if you're not even talking about them.

I'm down for the same-sex relationship if you planned on it from the beginning. But since almost nobody did...I'm still voting no ****** for male shep. FemShep's a lost cause, cuz that happened in game one: Liara.

At this point, bro, voting against m/m in ME3 is like voting against fighting Collectors in ME2.

And yes, m/m was originally planned to be in ME1 (Kaidan), but it was cut.  Similarly, I believe Thane was bi?
