wait, if Ashley was Bi all along, why'd she get so mad when I picked "Can't I have you both?"

Probably because she doesn't like to share.

You have a very weak will. :P I don't mind saying no. That said I'd be more happy if I got more options to express interest first. Liara was actually common. BW female s/s romances always tend to be more overt. Their males tend to be the ones with a thousand confirmations.

I will admit to being weak. I will also quote a poem:

Dorothy Parker wrote...
Once, when I was young and true,
Someone left me sad -
Broke my brittle heart in two;
And that is very bad.

Love is for unlucky folk,
Love is but a curse.
Once there was a heart I broke;
And that, I think, is worse.

I feel a little bad whenever I turn anyone down. It may be dumb, but I'd just rather only feel bad two or three times in a game, rather than six or eight.

I do like it when some of the romances pursue you and some have to be pursued, I just don't want all the options to be omnipresent. I'd prefer if it were a decision you make early on, and if you decide to lock in friendship they don't constantly have romance trigger dialogue.

So we're back to people wanting preexisting LIs to suddenly decide they're bisexual? *sigh*

I oppose this to begin with but I really, really, really hope that isn't the route Bioware is taking.

Would you say that existing characters expressing bisexual interest are all equally unrealisitic, or do you think it's less of a stretch for some characters than for others? Do you think, for instance, that someone like Kaidan might have been a little more reserved about interest in MaleShep, as opposed to FemShep? After all, he does tell my ManShep on Horizon that "losing you was like losing a limb". Seriously, my Liaramancing male Vanguard was like "reeaaaally Kaidan?" and my man-loving male Sentinel was like "really Kaidan?":O

That's really odd.

You'd be better suited to abdicating for player initated romances period. Gay, straight or otherwise.

I don't feel guilty for turning someone down in ME but I do get irritable.

Now in DA2...that makes me feel guilty for not romancing someone. :crying:

The problem with saying no is.. you don't know if that means you're going to lose dialogue with that person in the future. You know, given Bioware's history of tieing more dialogue in to the romances and all. If you friend zone someone, how do you know you'll be able to talk about other things afterwards? Will it make things awkward later if that person still has feelings when you romance someone else?

From a meta-game perspective, sure you know what each of those dialogue lines leads to and you can plan your romance out accordingly. But not everyone wants to plan a spreadsheet out for each of their characters (an exaggeration but also a reminder that not everyone plays these games over and over).

err....heavy homoerotic overtones and no sex?

No, just friendships. I just wanted friendship to be given the same emotional weight as romances, is all.

would rock!!! i dunno if id be game for MY Femshep having a "gurl-fren" though. My Femshep isnt butch, luvs her some Liara...and i would think prefer being chummy with Garrus...bff style.  just hope garrus doesnt get the wrong idea.

creating characters Bi just to include homosexual relationships is just lazy and a form of backhanded compliment to the gay/lesbian players. They should just have a gay/lesbian character who has no interesting in a relationship with the opposite sex.

You know, like in real life.

Best option - James Vega and Liara bi. Everybody else stays the same

I think this is the fairest option.  And maybe have a new female s/s lover interest aswell if people feel that the only valid love-interests are human.  I know some people will be disappointed that their Shep can't romance X, but equally if they make the existing characters bi then we'll have other's complaining that their friendship with X has been compromised.

The solution that's fairest to all is to have two new characters and to make them bi or s/s exclusive, that's someone for everyone, and no-one will feel that their exisitng friendships are going to be changed.

And being attracted to women doesn't mean you're attracted to all women. Or... monogendered aliens.

Ashley had a score of reasons not to want to sleep with Liara, or be involved in a three-way relationship with Liara, and heterosexuality may or may not have been one of them.

TL;DR: Ashley isn't necassarily straight just because she didn't want to sleep with Liara.

Except for in DA games where saying no means I can keep on talkingto them. Only ME has this issue with the romances tying up the conversation. (Well ME and Kotor, and to an extent JE). Except in DA2 I felt there was more dialogue outside the romances (well more interesting dialogue at least) Anders was a particularly bad offender. Simple by having a friendship path. Rejecting an LI is a totally different issue than the lackofa friendship path. The latter is bad even if I want to romance the person. Not to me. Anders is a bit of a creeper but that was in character, for someone like Miranda I'd expect her to be professional about it. Tali on the other hand is already an issue for my Sheps even though they didn't romance anyone else.

You don't need to plan out a spreadsheet for your characters with clear and coherent dialogue choices. And I know everyone doesn't play the games over and over which is why I am pro-player initated romances. I disliked ME1's system where I felt I was getting stalked by everyone except Liara (who I personally find obsessive and creepy.) But that's more due to her having Shepard's busted armor than my Shepard rejecting her once.

If the characters don't constantly go on and on about how much better they are than the other Lis *coughANDERScough* (unless of course this is in character). I really don't care.

Personallyh I'm for player initated romances in ME period because there's too many damn LIs. It's annoying to have to dodge so many potential traps.

I'm okay with this as long as its not characters already in a state of romance.

What I mean by this is I'd rather they focus on when handling the pre-existing relationships they use that time to further develop said relationships as they exist rather than splitting time to somehow get Shepards who are not in that relationship up to speed.

Samara for example or someone like Shiala or this new Vega character I think would be sensible as love interests for s/s Shepards.

Maybe they will? It's doubtful, but we don't know what the same-sex romances will be. There hasn' tbeen any statement about what form the same-sex romances will come in: gay characters, bisexual characters, old friends, new faces, one-night-stands, full-fledged relationships... We just don't know.

Honestly, what I advocate for is a variety. One or two LIs who flirt openly Liara-style, one or two who have to be pushed Garrus and Jack style, and possibly a few who are slightly tricky to unlock, but who can be unlocked if you're serious about it.

That way there's a good balance and it doesn't feel like a harem anime. Becasue I don't care if she never says "I like you," if a girl gets all blushy when she talks to me, I get the message!

I also think that, by default, each gender should have one cannon straight, gay, and bi option, but that there should be an in-game option that unlocks all romances for all genders. That way people who aren't bothered by the harem feeling can get whoever they want, while people who want quieter, more personal relationships have all the possible options, gender-wise.

Because bisexuals can still value having a serious, one-to-one relationship.

Bi doesn't mean "at the same time". Or that one finds every man and woman attractive, for that matter.

Can't speak for ReconTeam, but I do think that for some characters it would be much more of a stretch than others. Kaidan, for example, I could certainly see as being a gay option for MSheps. Likewise I could see Thane, Miranda, and Tali.

Others, however, would feel much more forced, possibly to the level of an outright retcon (like how I felt about Anders in DA2). Ash, Garrus, and Jack fall under this side of spectrum.

Now, sure, there is only one character that has explicity stated they're not into the opposite sex, Jack. But I find the argument that because a character never explicity said they weren't bisexual it totally makes sense for them to be in the next game, no matter what their previous characterzerization, to be very flimsy and tiring, similar to "you can't prove that evolution occured".

I really hope we're not going to be forced to either pick gay-approving dialouge, or get punished for not doing so in some way, like how in Dragon Age 2 there was some dialogue scenes where we either had to pick the gay-approving option, or be seriously hurt or know less about the person.  I know that Mass effect uses the renegade-paragon option, but like I said, "punished in some way".

variety is nice. But I understand people not wanting it. Tali flirting with my Shepard was a real "wait...WHAT?!?" momet for me and tainted my view of the character. It really is better if something like that is player initated only.

I don't know DA2 never felt like a harem to me. Probably because there was only 4 and everyone was all too willing to ditch you *glares at Fenris and Isabea* for several years.

Though yeah Tali's actions were a bit of a sigh moment. I want that to start after I choose the obvious romane initation dialogue.

I'd just like strictly m/m and f/f romances along with a bi option. So the players that want a s/s LI get a choice and an LI that's exclusive only to their gendered Shepard.

This! Keep everybody how they are now. No funny stuff like the Garrus and Tali romance.

Liara isn't bi. These labels don't jive with Asari.
