I find it funny that most people had no problems with turning down opposite sex LI's who happened to be friends but it becomes a problem and terrible writing when Garrus who is their bro has to be turned down too because he's open to s/s romance. Either route will be awkward for a little while just like in real life but some people think this is going to completely ruin!!!1 Mass Effect. And this is just speculation that your squadmates might initiate the romance. I highly doubt that, but of course some have to fear the worst.

Why would we want to have that awkwardness in a game? Just make him gay from the start or dont. Its simple.

People who wanted s/s would get a character for that and people who wanted straight would get a character for that. This swapping around sexuality business in DA2 really was a massive fan service for the vocal minority on these forums and i hope it wont be the same in ME.

how long have you been a fan?

A small vocal minority that people feel sorry for wanted homosexual relationships.

The majority wanted a mix of ME1 and ME2,  solid story and a series of numerous minor requests.

this isn't really related to How they are searching for a demographic and media coverage. as well as putting politics so far up the ass of the video game industry its never going to properly dislodge it.

Why does it matter how long I've been a fan? I've been a fan of BioWare since Baldur's Gate, if you must know. I've had an account on these forums and the old one ever since they've been around.

Feel sorry for? Now, now, no need to be condescending. What's there to feel sorry for? I already had my same sex relationship in ME 1 & 2 but I felt the need to stand up and say no to double standards. And, honestly, I don't want to see two men getting it on either (just as I've no interest in seeing heterosexual antics) but it won't even effect my game so who am I to stand in the way of others' enjoyment? More happiness all round, I say!

If you want to see it that way, so be it. The majority are getting what they desire in changes to gameplay, it seems, so I'm not seeing a problem with adding even more to the improvements.

Sympathetic is a better word sorry.

so this isn't a fairness issue this is a, i need validation because i feel awkward about my life choices issue

just be comfortable with yourself and don't throw money at companies that are using you.

I believe that was a mistake making Garrus and Tali romances. Why repeat mistakes? And there are already too many LIs as it is,if you ask me.

Agreed. But you see,it's not enough of them. First they wanted any male character to be available for male Shep to romance. Now when that they got it confirmed, they want old characters turning bi.Soon, they will want everyone on Normandy to be bi.

Why can't you settle with BioWare focusing on making one great gay romance with Vega instead of changing old established characters?

I'd be fine with just one new bi LI. They very, very, very likely won't ever do an exclusively gay romance because of costs, and that is fine too.

I just don't think other characters "becoming" bisexual would be the end of the world like some people here seem to think it would be.

No, he doesn't.

The romance system in a Bioware RPG is completely different from anything that exists anywhere in gaming. I hate the Sims and I've never played a dating sim (Ok... I did play Sakura Taisen for a while, but it was for the steampunk mechs not the being-friends-with-girls!). The Bioware romance system is so great because it incorporates itself so well within the frame of a larger story.

There's nothing out there like the Bioware romances. I could just as easily say "if you're more interested in mindlessly firing guns than interpersonal relationships, why don't you just go play Modern Halo: Gears of Warfare?" Bioware games are good because they combine all these aspects together.

We have repeatedly said that new gay characters would be cool. We, as in the main supportive posters of this thread, do not think old characters turning bi is so awful, but the idea of new S/S characters was not turned down.  Please do not willfully ignore what people have said.

I'm starting to agree with the Narrator on his bringing politics into games (this does stink of that), and Ghost and James. Bioware have done a lot for like sexuality in gaming, remember the ruckus over ME1?

Same sex relationships and all the controversy etc. won't go away overnight, and trying to change it in gaming first of all things is just ... madness:o This is a baby steps thing. Acceptance doesn't come by shouting at or labelling those who disagree (especially with what is a minority), it comes through time and showing the virtues you wish others to accept with dignity.

I definitiely agree with this there are way too many LI's in ME they need to focus on fewer but deeper relationships. There is no need for so many.

^This.

I have nothing against a new gay romance if he's written just as well as all the other LIs. With just as much development and involvement in the plot.

I also have nothing against a old LI like Kaidan being open to s/s Shepard.

And while I would *prefer* Joker I wouldn't throw a hissy fit and fling the cake to the floor if it was a new LI.

But...how many LIs do we have currently? 9? Assuming that there's only one m/m and f/f option each that already brings it up to 11. *chuckles* Sorry I mean...yeah. 11 interactions with each other? With variations? Oi vey. There really shouldn't have been so many LIs.

yeah, this is ridiculous. people are insulting. hostile. and childish. its really not worth having an intelligent conversation with you people anymore.

from using "they nver said they werent" as their primary argument.
from constantly arguing over SEMANTICS. dont care if its a retcon or not. if its stupid its stupid. what they did with anders character was stupid.

i love character growth and development. just not when its stupid. anders is a good example of BAD character development. theres countless examples of people growing, changing, aging, that are absolutely fantastic i love it. im not going to pick at one persons single opinion on ONE character and berate them because they disagree with me.

you're childish with your stupid *scratch* thing. its insulting and you're just making yourself out to look like an immature child. ive lost all respect for you, your opinion and wont read your posts anymore. act like an adult next time.

I can't have an "intelligent conversation" with people who use words that don't mean what they think they mean.

I can't have an "intelligent conversation" with people who use a fallacious logic as a rigid and unassailable paradigm.

Adult enough for you?

Why are you getting personal? You know nothing about me or the others here. I'm not a gay man, I'm not the one who's underepresented in ME1 & 2. But I can recognise double standards when I see them. And I said it was exactly about fairness. I'm getting catered to but others weren't. So I stood with them.

Try and look at this from other peoples' views and you might understand a little.

There's already awkwardness in the game anyway, depending on what an individual person finds awkward.  I had a serious WTF moment hearing my lesbian Shepard sound like a predator towards Jacob but the game as a whole wasn't a complete fail to me.  Also, being a Liara fan, aren't you aware that Liara approaches Shepard with romantic feelings and he/she can turn Liara down and something awkward happens?  Liara herself says, "This is...very embarassing."

...I never understood that. Why do people think they're together? (I know you're joking but really it confounds me). She's the ship for crying out loud!

Maybe its just me but seriously mass effect isnt about the romance it adds some drama and all that but really i dont pop it into my 360 to go get at miranda or hope that i can have a bi/gay option or foursomes(make it happen though).

if i really wanted romance i could just walk outside.Posted Image

I wouldn't mind if BW did a RPG without romance.
Maybe give the main PC a canon romance that's dying or something that they're remaining faithful to and need to save.

I vote that Bioware make a dating sim in the Mass Effect Universe, that way we all get what we want. We get the intense sci-fi story, and they get the equally intense romance story. Everyone wins! Posted Image

Well, I think you've been deliberately fanning the flames with your constant misuse of the word "retcon". Retconning is a universally derided concept, and to refer to something as a retcon is an easy way to say "it sucks". Which is fine, if you're actually referring to an instance of retroactive continuity. But you haven't been.

And you keep saying that characters revealing new information about themselves is poor writing. Well, that's your opinion. We get it. I personally like characters who surprise me every now and then. Yes, even Anders. But peremptorily declaring all instances of non-heterosexual revelation as "bad writing" is simply preposterous. You can't judge writing you haven't even seen yet, for one thing, and many of us have witnessed this very thing done extremely WELL. In our OPINION. Which is no less valid than your OPINION
