and you though miranda's armor was bad!
Sheps new armor!

You know,  if you tried a little harder you could have probably found Mark Vanderloo in that exact same pose.

The real challenge is to find them both together in the same pic!

Pfft. Phoenix armor. Always good for a laugh. Everyone except Ashley just looks wrong in it.

I put Wrex in phoenix armor and nearly died laughing.  and that yellow/white atrocity for Garrus. Oh god. So much laughter.

Nothing. At least, there shouldn't be atm.

Hmm. I have a hunch. *looks at game*

EDIT: I think I am going to have to have a talk with my siblings. Be right back.

LOL be sure to smack them upside the head.  Or at least learn how to tell if a mod is gonna conflict!

Well, you're set on your path of enforcing conformity. That's antithetical to the US Constitution so I can sincerely hope that you're not an American citizen and if you are then shame on you. :(

Last time I checked, the constitution said nothing about conformity?

You know, picking out random political buzzwords is cool and all, but it takes a bit more finesse to actually tie them to the conversation at hand.

I didn't say it (US Constitution) did. I said that you did. You seem to be confused for some reason.

I said nothing about conformity, either.

Even if I did say something about conformity, the constitution would have to say something (negative or otherwise) about conformity for any statements about conformity to be antithetical to it.

So what you're saying is that your understanding is more valid than mine? And also you get to choose your gender when you start a game. How is that different from also choosing your sexual orientation/preference?

How is it different?

Sexuality can't be seen. It can only be interpreted from your actions.

Sex/gender... can be seen. Unless Shepard suddenly goes from being human to being an amorphous blob.

Now you're just being deliberately obtuse. The choice of gender changes the dialogue options available in game or do you choose to deny this? Isn't this the central point of discussion here? That choice determines what romances are available to your character throughout the game.  What's your agenda with this bullsh!t? Seriously, I'm getting a certain politicately correct vibe to some of these responses. Is it as obvious to me as to any of the others in this thread?

Sex/gender... can be seen. Unless Shepard suddenly goes from being human to being an amorphous blob.

Now you're just being deliberately obtuse. The choice of gender changes the dialogue options available in game or do you choose to deny this? Isn't this the central point of discussion here? That choice determines what romances are available to your character throughout the game.  What's your agenda with this bullsh!t? Seriously, I'm getting a certain politicately correct vibe to some of these responses. Is it as obvious to me as to any of the others in this thread?

Why do you use "politically correct" as a negative term, or as a sort of internet shield to guard yourself from anyone calling you out on a somewhat prejudiced opinion?
Being politically correct is not the same as being supportive of equality.

This thread's going in weird (and wonderful) places.

The old FftL thread, probably because it was 300 pages, didn't attract such... spirited debate.

Onward, internets.

By the way just so everyone knows I am just taking these off of google images. None of these were created by me. I'm just typing in variations of gay shepard. Keep the safe search on, well unless your into that kind of thing. Anyways all of this is good fun none of this is really in ME3 however you may want it to be! lol

So what you're saying is that your understanding is more valid than mine? And also you get to choose your gender when you start a game. How is that different from also choosing your sexual orientation/preference?

Dude, you are the only person who is focusing on political correctness, or the US constitution (which by the way has nothing to do with a Canadian made game, based in a future where earth has become The Alliance)

Stop accusing people of having agendas? do you think this is all a conspiracy by people to turn your friends gay or something?

This thread is not about politics. So drop it, its about discussion of the wider options... who should be gay?, who shouldnt? why?

Personally I hope Joker, and Vega are the gay or bi men, and I haven't put much thought into the lesbian side of things.

I have to ask why now? I could have understood it in ME2 after the generally positive response to the Liara romance from fans but why implement SS romance in the final installment? What's changed?

I've got nothing against SS romance in games (actually enjoyed it in DA:O and even DA2), but it seems like they're tacking it on just because.

Also am I the only one worried about what this will mean for established romances? It was all well and good to say the romances would be expanded when they weren't writing new ones but now I'm worried we'll get the ME2 treatment (LI is made unromanceable by circumstance) or they just won't get the attention they deserve.

Why not now?

Well from a marketing standpoint it's generally not a good idea to try something new at the end of a series.  ME3 is the finale Bioware wants to end on a high note and that could be completely ruined by trying something different and failing.  This isn't like ME2 where they can make a bunch of changes and see what works and what doesn't Bioware needs to wow people with this installment

From a story writing point of view there isn't enough time to give a new romance the same depth as the others.  At the onset of ME3 all romanceable characters are at the same point, the wooing is over and now they can move on to cementing the finer details of the relationship.  Unless they give the new romances twice as much dialogue and let you start straight out the gate they won't be able to cover that.  This will inevitably lead to players being upset that their ME3 romance wasn't given the same cred as ME1 or ME2 romances.

So developers can't ever change their minds mid-way through a series because they've received a tonne of feedback that players would like more variety in romance options? Innovation is a bad thing?

Of course they can change mid-way which is why I said I wouldn't have batted an eye or questioned it had it been implemented in ME2, but this isn't mid-way it's the very end, one would think the time for innovation had passed on this particular project (though by all means take what you've started and run with it in the next).  Consider if you would that Tolkien decided to alter the characters of the fellowship in some way without lead up or explanation in Return of the King.  Now certainly it's his right as the authour to do so, they're his characters, but wouldn't you like to know why?

From everything I've read, the opportunity came when Mass Effect 3 was delayed by several months. More development time presumably meant more could be included - even content that they wanted to include before, but didn't have time to.

S/S content was cut from Mass Effect due to time constraints. It isn't a good thing that they can and will include it in ME3, now that they have the time to write and execute it well?

Thank you, this is the kind of explanation I was looking for.  I was under the impression the exclusion of SS romances was a design choice rather than a result of time constraints.  I'm still not sure implementing it this late is a good decision but at least I understand it now.

On your final point: I have faith in Bioware's writing team. They've promised to expand on all relationships, both romantic and platonic, 'love' and friendships. Trust in them to do an amazing job.

If the Fable series has taught me anything it's to never believe the promises of developers.  They have a nasty habit of promising their hopes before seeing how they stand up to reality.  Now I'm glad they're going to try, I really can't ask them to do more than that, but I shall remain pesimistic with the chance of being pleasantly surprised (rather than optimistic with the chance of being terribly disappointed).

That was before S/S was confirmed. I imagine that there may be lots of people coming out of the woodwork who were silent before/didn't think it would actually happen.

It does say it explicitly in the first amendment. What part of freedom of association don't you understand? You want to make the case that not conforming to your view of 'bigotry' is illegitimate, but then want to ignore the fact that there is no legally binding agreement that conforms to your preference. That's about as authoritarian a worldview as can be expressed and totally antithetical to any spirit of original intent as any I've seen.

This is very rapidly spiraling out of hand. I've expressed my opinion several times during this and I just don't want prior squadmates becoming bi for the sake of marketing or appeasing.

You want 4 new squadmates that can be bi/gay? Perfect, awesome go for it. No qualms with that. A great deal of this uproar is over the fact that established characters are being tampered with because of "character choice".

And please, for the love of god stop using the "they never said they weren't" thing.

Well, they never said they "weren"t" ...So...:P
I just want Tali to be an option. And for that to happen, Garrus will probably need to be to appeal the gay male community.
