I am curious if current modding tools would allow for reskins of the user interface to make it appear more Origins style?

While I appreciated the slick look of the DA II quickslot toolbar and character skill screens, they feel too sci-fi for the genre. I actually liked the Origins ui elements better, both its icons, thematic colors/textures of the toolsbars and bloodstained book parchment journal/codex/skill tree.

Did anyone try to tinker with this yet? Or have an idea if this is even possible?

Very few people tried to mod the UI in Origins, and even fewer working mods were released. Moreover, as far as I know FtG is the only one who changed the UI a lot for the sake of his dialog UI mod. So, since the basics of UI modding in DA2 seem to follow the same rules (apparently it's still a flash-based Scaleform thingy) my guess is you won't see a lot of UI modding in DA2. Especially not mods greatly changing the base interface. Just an educated guess, tho. :?

But as far as the modding tools are involved, the tools currently available are probably enough for most UI mods. As long as you can extract the gfx UI movies from the ERF packages - and we can - all you need after that is a set of Flash development tools. Even the lack of toolset shouldn't be an issue most of the time.

Customizing the ability icons is possible albeit extremely clunky, but I've found it not to be worth it due to the way that DA 2 handles the .dds files for icons (read: if you care about quality, no matter what, they look like crap at really high resolutions).

I had initially intended to tweak / polish / clean up a number of UI elements, but based on my experience with the icons and combined with the fact that I'm losing interest in DA 2, I won't be bothering.
