I just checked through some previous saves and noticed that, between the time I first entered Watcher's Keep level 3 (Portal Maze) and some time before reaching the gambler, I had about 70k less gold than I had before, even though I never bought anything expensive during that time. I might have gotten a few things identified outside, but thats about it. Are there events that occur on this level that can cause you to lose lots of gold that I didn't notice??

Yeah, there's wild surges that are bugged (they take large sums of money from the target instead of the caster). It shouldn't be happening if you've installed Baldurdash or the G3 fixpack (unless it was you casting all those spells in the wild magic areas, that is) but will happen in the vanilla game.

You can just cheat your gold back in if you don't want to replay through the maze (or don't have saves from before it got zapped).

Did you by any chance draw "Ruin" from the deck of many things? That card causes the party to lose all gold.

Also, the annoying wild magic zones in this maze can - and probably should - be avoided if you learn your way around the level.

the incident happened before I met the gambler. But yeah, there were a few times that I tried casting spells in those wild zones only to have strange things happen.

At this point, though, that 70k lost gold hardly matters. I sold over 100k worth of loot by the time I went back to the main quest.
