Hey there!
Since I'm about to integrate a song into a modification I was wonderung whether there is such a thing as an animation for a lute player. I'm asking because i Remember a group of musicians in Lothering, but I'm not sure whether they were actually playing or just standing there.
Thanks =)

heyas;
first, make sure you grab beerfish's animations listing.

i don't recall seeing any particular musician/playing animations. not that i was looking.
if not, you can still try to cobble one together from other animations. depending on how detailed you want the lute-player to look. is it going to be a background character who can stand around with a lute, swaying? (put his back to the camera, then you wont have to fiddle with the hand positions all that much. :X ) is it going to be a main character and you want to show him fingering major chords and strumming? (change your storyboard... or, do extreme closeups of the hands on the strings, where you can't see the rest of the body; that would be easier.)
i would start with one of the jig/dance animations, one with a hand extended. then tack the lute onto the character's chest. then go through the various hand/arm animations and see which might get the hands tweaked properly onto the instrument.

Hey!
Thanks for the reply.
@Bloodsong
I've downloaded the animation listing! Thanks!
If the lute player animation Yara Cousland linked somehow doesn't work, I will try putting together seperate animations.

My last response was a bit passing by. Now that had I time to check it I have seen that it was the animation 1guitar with model cmu_guitar02 which I had in mind. Not really a lute...sorry. I can remember only one animation where Leliana is playing a lute (kneeling). But it is a part of feastday gifts which afaik means that it will not be an available animation.
So, if you don´t want to use the animation of a different origin you should follow Bloodsong´s recommendation. You can create a new animation by splitting, combining and blending animations but it is rather time consuming to find out which animations can be combined well (dependent on which body parts are animated). But doable with Beerfish´s animation list.

oh good!
thanks yara! the guitar will no doubt be a better starting position to get a good lute animation.
i have the prank/gift pack, but as i recall, there wasn't really a lute playing animation for leliana; i THINK she just crouched down and did the 'interact-low' routine, because i dont remember seeing her actually playing it. did she? i might be mis-remembering.
i want some elven musicians in one of my videos, so latiro, let us know how it turns out
and thanks for the animations link, yara!

You also might want to explore some of the sitting animations. You could probably get away with the one where two hands are close to the mouth (while at a table) , stretch that animations time, and play with the curve editor to vary the weight to create the impression of movement, while linking the actual flute to the hands
Edit: oops lol, you meant lute as in lute and not flute lol
Still, Sitting conversational animations would be great, and the technique of stretching their time at a particular point you would like to stress, i.e. hands at that *perfect* position and cutting it right at those points, stretching it out *a lot* and then switching in between the two in two or three tracks while blended creating the impression of movement based on your desired musical timing
Edit: oops lol, you meant lute as in lute and not flute lol
