You want to know why melee weapons are not used anymore? Because only idiots bring swords to a gunfight.
I have NO idea why, but that comment suddenly made me think of Grunt's line:
"I'd never stab you in the back, Shepard. Warriors like you and me, straight to the face."
Then I thought of a biotic charge to the face... with a katana in hand

Don't all classes have a unique CQC ability? Maybe one of the classes already has some sort of sword.
Yeah, that's the idea. Idk if it has been confirmed or not. Maybe a katana sounds stupid but it actually fits the sentinel as a way to shape his omnitool to be able to defend himself in melee.
More like a biotic kick or punch since it is about MELEE, but since you were trying to be sarcastic i'll let it go. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/whistling.png[/smilie]Clonedzero wrote...

CQC is trained in the military and is really important. No matter how good you are shooting, you need to defend yourself in close quarters. However your statement is correct, you are idiot if you bring a sword to a gunfight, as anybody who brings a rocket launcher or a sniper rifle in CQC...

sentinel's melee should be a gigantic omni-tool fist.
For an engineer in any case. Would be fun to watch that.
Nah, i think the vanguard should be given the melee ability of tearing his enemy's heart after a biotic charge.:devil:j/kHathur wrote...

Well, I've lost hope that Bioware is actually trying to build an aesthetically consistent trilogy as opposed to adding cheese for that cheesy flavor that the Mass Effect trilogy so desperately needed. So why not?
In fact, give us technological boxer gloves that shatter mechs on impact, or maybe we could have a tech warhammer that makes husks go SPLAT. Why not? It's cool!

Yup.
Might apply more if the swordsmen also had kinetic barriers and borderline superpowers like Shep does.
Not that a sword is all that logical, but then again, most armed combat today probably doesn't involve running at a position by yourself to circle strafe people with a shotgun. Or heck most combat being within 10 meters.

Have to agree, we're already at the established point that Shep's elbow can take on elite troopers. If we are going to try to bring up knife vs guns, I think starting on the point that an elbow is actually pretty dang effective in ME at least as a secondary option is not a bad place. Why exactly are melee weapons options so insane?

I'd imagine that the Engineer's flame blade (yep, that's the class' special melee) is a one-hit kill attack, so there's that.
As for the Sentinel, can't he just cover his fists with the same stuff that goes in the Tech Armor and punch the crap out of the victim?
Like...fists of steel.
