I have never hated any weapon as much as I hate the Katana. It's just so overused in all the most inappropriate situations. People need to get over the Katana. Seriously.

I have, but I still hate it. It's used in every juvenile "tough chick" movie, and way too often in Sci-fi as well. Both of which are situations where everyone has guns and it would have been a total waste of time to learn all about flipping through the air and mastering the katana.

Well Kaidan used a Biotic KICK to the throat of Vyness and killed him, so I would suspect that the ME3 Sentinel will have a biotic kick to some part of his opponent's anatomy.

Here's a pic of my katana, and my broadsword. I train with both. Both are lightweight, agile, and versatile. Against unarmoured opponents, both have the same cutting potential, against armoured opponents, the broadsword wins out due to the extra leverage due to length of handle. The broadsword also has much better balance than the katana.
My sensai laughed and told me to get serious when I first brought it into the dojo. After the first few moments of using it, he changed his tune.

Or they could slash with the leading edge of the shield. As a hologram or "hard light" structure (or other form of handwavium ), the edge could be made only a single molecule thick.

Pretty much.

Being cloaked with CQC training and a melee weapon is no more of a combat advantage than hiding with a sniper rifle. Only big difference is that once you reveal yourself as a melee guy, you're right out in the middle of your enemies' squad.

I have had interest in katana way before Sephiroth was even conceived, as long as I can remember I have been a fan. The same for other curved swords that are out there. There's just something about the aestethics that I love.

Aside from ceremonial swords in the west, I don't find much aesthetic pleasure in western weapons.

I don't mind having katana in CQC as long as it's M-23 Katana. But yes, M-300 Claymore is better.
For Sentinel ability in melee I'd like to see nerfed version of Assault Armour's pulse

Thats retarded.
A Krogan battle master with a "dagger" (big ass sword) can kill 10 shielded enemies in cqc. Since shileds don't react to relativly slow movement the knife makes compared to gunfire at lightspeed.

Just check out military cqc, they'll rip you a new one even if you have a bazooka.

Also the katana would be lame/ They should add a tech shockwave, kinda like what the techarmour does, but for closer range, knocking enemies back in 360 degrees.


Vanguards could just "punch" the enemy with biotics, kinda like Jack in cutscenes. Infiltrators could "1 hit ko" thane style/

Why is there increased emphasis on melee combat again? Granted I wouldnt mind being able to do more than elbow the enemy, but it seems like they are changing gameplay to have more enemies rushing/flanking (Cerberus beat stick)?

anyway...Sentinal melee power,Tech: hologram; its defensive, disracting, could have ~40-60% health...

not sure how it would work lore wise

Biotic: Idk im thinking some variant of a stasis punch/kick, where the enemy would be immobile for 3ish seconds but you couldnt do damage; defensive, in line with the sentinals thinking.....idk just throwing stuff out there I'm still tired!

 I'm no fan of the katana but your "broadsword" looks like a glorified butterknife =/

No sword for one reason. It would beg the question of why you just don't always use it? The melee attacks are just meant to be there like the knife in Halo Reach. Do a flashy animation to kill someone. Having a tech katana would be out of place. It has to be something that doesn't beg the question, but still has a good use.

i saw in an article a picture of Shepard hitting a merc with the butt of the Mattock rifle..THAT will be the melee i guess and i really like it ...melee should be fists (maybe kicking too) and using the body of the weapon to do some dmg ...but swords??? what do you thinking ? Warhammer 40k? chainsaw swords? tehno hammers? i realy hope bioware stays tru to soldier way of melee and don't go to 40k lore ( i'm pretty sure they won't)

As I said, preferences are subjective, and regardless of how it looks, I doubt you would like to be on the wrong end of it. Its also a modified Dao design.

But I also found this pic, and thought it would be relevant in this thread for some reason.
