I have files with both genders and have every intention of completing their respective trilogies, barring a few where I monkeyed around. I may opt to pursue a celibate Shepard in ME2 to witness the scenes, if I do not merely youtube them instead but no I shall not abandon my male Shepards for open season on Miranda. For that file, Miranda is the ideal match to my male Shepard and I am quite content for that to remain, albeit he will have his conflict with his former flame.

On one of your comments, TC. I am among the male gamers who frequently players as a female character. In fact, the majority of my written work falls into the same category. I do so for a variety reasons, not simply to have girl slash. When designing that specific character, if a hetero relationship fits, then I shall pursue it. :)

The f*ck are you talking about OP?

I'm pretty sure I explained it in the opening, and I admitted that my title was a hyperbole. Basically, this forum was an attempt for people to explain why they play as male or female Shepard and whether or not they're more like to play as female Shepard if all the female former squad members are now bisexual. Also, I wanted to see if more players would be outraged over the male characters being bisexual than the women.

And yes, I have been reading more announcements from Bioware that MAY indicate that not ALL characters will be bisexual, but they still seem open to interpretation. Maybe Bioware is just floating a trial balloon.

Fortunately, not everyone plays games to make their main character a lesbian.  Seriously, you are seriously overestimating the number of people who would play as a woman just to make her a lesbian.  It is the most pathetic reason to play as a woman unless you are a lesbian or bi woman yourself.

So no, Male Shepard isn't going to die off because not everyone shares your desire to play as a lesbian.  Not everyone is a horny straight male who gets off on that idea.

I am one of those that OP describes: a guy that always goes for female LI regardless of my character male/female. If there are no female LI, then I just don't go for any relationships at all.

As for my character selection, it is never dictated by romancing options. I play male only because I like the voice acting of Mark Meer.

My *default* shep is a male shep who I painstakingly crafted into the ugly but lovable SOB he is. I'm sticking with him to the end.

I prefer Mark Meer's voice to Jennifer Hale's, as well as that male Shep seems to fit the situations better, in my mind. She's fine (I played through both games first with a female) but definitely, I prefer maleshep

My main Shepard is a straight male and I made him that way in part because that's who Shepard is. Sure it got retconned now, but Bioware talked about this before and defended not having that kind of thing in the series... before it was added.

It's not a big deal at this point to me that it's in there now (as long as it doesn't put Shepard in an unrealistic situation for straight players).

I honestly wasn't even fully aware of the romances Mass Effect would have and romance is 3rd party at best regarding my experience with the game.

The bisexual news doesn't change anything with my main Shepard.

For the record: I have nothing against the individual that engages in gay behavior. However, I personally dislike that particular behavior in the similar manner that I dislike brussel sprouts. Likewise, I acknowledge that other people go for them, but my personal tastes still stand.

I identify with male shep and can therefore be immersed in the gameplay. With fem shep I just can't identify with her, I can't picture myself as her. And honestly the LI parts in the game are not really that important to me in the first place although I do appreciate it from a immersion perspective. If I wanted to watch two girls do it the dirty I'd watch lesbian porn. Sex is really not the reason I play Mass Effect.

I agree, couldnt have said it any better myself.

Hale > Meer, but I guess since the majority of players are male they want to stick to play male Shep.
But then again I always hear "I don't like watching a man's ass all day" when I ask why males do play female characters.
Seriously, FemShep has a nice ass. YES better than Miranda...maybe...Anyway.
She is also voiced by someone who knows exactly what she's doing and has experience, unlike Meer's monotone voice.

I don't get the criticism of Mark Meer.  Both did a great job, but I could never get into femshep's portrayal.  There was cringe-worthy delivery every 5 minutes or so.  Maleshep's deliver only rose to that level on a few occasions.

I didnt like Hale in ME at all.

Im one of the few that perfers Meer's voice for Shep.

I'm with you on that.  Oh, I think Hale did a good job, but Shepard will always sound like Mark Meer in my own mind.

I think the same thing.

Hale has better performances on her resume, though.

I've noticed that Meer seems more popular with players who skip the romances, too.

Never skip the romances.  Still prefer Meer.  Never have done any of the ME2 romances though, always just Ashley or Liara.

i don't get the mark meer hate. i think its clear he's not "feeling" most of his lines in ME2, but when I played through as a full renegade, you get to hear some really great lines from him. it seems mark meer is a lot more into the fighter aspect of shepard. hale's voice does NOT fit right in that same context - conversely, she's got a lot better lines when it comes to regular dialogue.

Meer's delivery of some of the renegade lines are the reason why a renegade Shepard should be male.

"I'm giving you one chance to walk away.  That's more than most get."

Awesome.

Most of which I'm not familiar with, unfortunately.  The only other game I've played with her as a VA is Bulletstorm.  Bulletstorm is a crude, bloody, filthy damned game, but Hale's VA work on that game was was lightyears ahead of her work as femshep.

I prefer Hale's Paragon lines over Meer's Paragon lines and I prefer Meer's Renegade lines over Hale's Renegade lines. I'd say the karma balances out well enough on that point, but as I play Paragon more often than Renegade, I tend to gravitate toward FemShep.

EDIT: More on-topic--the idea that someone would play a Mass Effect game to entertain their fetishes amuses me. That's what the Internet is for, remember? I'm sure you've heard the song sung at some point or other.

I only remember seeing this thread about Hale in Bulletstorm, so that "lightyears ahead of her work as femshep" seems dubious.

Well, two performances I can recall without looking it up, is the voice of Naomi Hunter in the Metal Gear Solid games, and Bastila Shan in the Knights of the Old Republic games.

And I think those are way better than her performance as Shepard.

I would never say I thought Meer did a BAD job as Shepard, but I do think that Hale has a slight edge in emotional scenes, which hurt the male Shepard in ME2 since more than half of it was Shepard being the ultimate bad ass Dr. Phil.

Once scene that worked against Hale, in my opinion, was the "tough" Shepard confronting Aria for the first time. Shepard says s/he likes Aria's "Don't **** with Aria" rule and has a similar rule his/herself. Aria responds that what Shepard's rules are doesn't matter on Omega and the bodyguard threatens to throw Shepard out the airlock.

Because Meer had made "just business" rendition of the scene, I got the feeling that Shepard blew off Aria's bravado, while Hale, who sounded like she wanted to get into a female peeing contest, seemed to be building up the scene for a Shepard finale that never came, making her seem the loser of Aria's verbal beat down.

Still, I thought most of rest of ME2 catered to Hale's strengths, and, like I said before, Meer's touchy feely scenes felt awkward to me (add on the fact that male Shepard's facial animations aren't as natural as the female Shepard's). Now that the Reaper's are on the move, and I ASSUME that Shepard has won't be spending half the game enhancing his crew's self esteem, maybe we'll get an all business Shepard that allows Meer to shine.

Again, in my opinion.

But, to get back on topic, I do wonder how Meer's VA will be with gay Shepard. We've already seen Hale flirting with Kelly and romancing Liara, although I admit to being curious how she'll approach romancing any previously introduced female characters who MAY now have a bisexual option. Hale always seemed like Tali's mom, Miranda is an alpha female who has -- until now, perhaps -- challenged female Shepard without the sexual tension, and Jack is certifiably insane.

One of the things I like about the editor is that it allows me to make a Hispanic (for obvious reasons), Black and/or Asian Shepard, and I usually try to make them as ethnic as possible without going into base stereotypes. And my female Shepards I intentially try to NOT make them look like beauty queens (except the one I based on my girlfriend, of course ).

I applied the same rules to the Warden and Hawke.

I remember seeing a forum dedicated to "ugly" Shepard, and I thought some of the pictures were truly awe inspiring.

I can't play femshep without thinking about Bastilla and how Hale's voice sounded much better then, and a lot less "breathier."
I love Meer, and even as a straight gamer, I have no interest in watching a femshep romance a girl. I'm just not into that sort of thing. And I don't play Mass Effect for the romances, either.

So, ManShep is alive and well.

I loved male shep. Hale was good I guess. There were parts where it wasn't...but I do have to say - does anyone recall male shepard trying to seduce Morinth? Seriously..that was crap. "What. About. Hallex?" "mmmm yeaaah hallex." -- "What. About. Vaenia?"  He sounded like a freakin robot. Not someone trying to seduce a murderer. I do admit, Hale did really well when it came to the more emotional dialogue.

My "Canon" Shep is a M-Shep. Will not abandon him. When I pop in the game I don't think "Oh Yea time for some LI action!" I think "Oh yeah! lets do some renegade action!"

+1...I can't be sure why, but Hale's voice in ME just really grates on me, can't play any femSheps because of it...I know she did a great job, just a personal thing I guess. Where as Meer's voice, I truly like his voice, is just a major win for me....though do cringe when he asks how Kelly's doing after the Collector base...:crying:...Meer, yes I know your having fun...but for the love of god...DON'T DO THAT AGAIN!!!!....=]

Love my manShep....won't be changing him out because a few men may make a pass at him, who cares, its as simple as he can say no thanks.
