Living test subject? Something the Architect didn't get until the Warden walked into the Silverite Mine.

...never found out what he did to us either...

I know exactly what he did, why else wouldn't Zevran hang around with my male warden anymore?!

I let the architect live. My hope is that with darkspawn gaining intelligence they may one day be able to cleanse the taint. Darkspawn now are monsters, but they weren't always, and they may not always have to be.

Even if that fails, I doubt with intelligent darkspawn we will face anywhere near the number of attacks that we currently do. There will be rogue bands, but I expect they will wipe out a lot of their own civilization trying to establish some government/power hierarchy. Even if they don't, I think they are a lot less likely to attack cities due to self preservation. Right now darkspawn have no regard for life, their own or other peoples, give them some time and they may develop enough of a self preservation instinct to sit inside and play cards instead of charging a castle. Who knows, maybe eventually they'll even have their own version of PETA (PETH I guess) making roadblocks to stop broodmother hunting parties.

1.  When were Darkspawn not monsters?

2.  How long untl they're not, and how many people die until that happens?

The original humans who were corrupted into them, though with the actions of tevinter I guess that monster definition is debatable.

As to your second question who knows, but how many could be saved if things don't work out that way. Killing off all the darkspawn isn't a feasible solution, not because of the genocide but because of their sheer number. We have to find another way or one day they will win, the architect seems like the first who would be willing to work toward that.

It's debatable that the first darkspawn were Tevinters. That's just what the Chant of Light teaches. They also teach that Mafarath betrayed Andraste because of jealousy. But in Origins, one of the codex entries says that historically Mafarath despaired at seeing the size of the Tevinter armies. The codex entries gives us two things.

I personally believe historical accounts over religious propaganda in the game.Dwarves claim the darkspawn first appeared in the deep roads, and their records are older than the surface ones concerning darkspawn.

I believe the exact opposite is true. As technological advancements are made, the battle will be more and more in favor of sentient race. There are already cannons and weaponized gas. It's only a matter of time before a major breakthrough in weaponry is made. How well do you think the mindless hordes of darkspawn will do when facing an army of people with guns and bombs? I'm thinking "not well."

Huh... This gives me an odd question to ponder. If everyone remembers, after the Fourth Blight they thought that the darkspawn were wiped out. We've always assumed that was just people being dumbasses. What if they were right? What if they really did wipe them out? We don't know where they came from, it's possible whatever created the first darkspawn simply did it again and started the cycle anew.

How did the Architect even come into being? I don't see any other Darkspawn that look like him, none had intelligence before him (that we know of). Where'd this guy come from?

Unlikley. The dwarves recorded no end to the darkspawn after any of the Blights.

The Dwarves have been fighting the Darkspawn in the deep roads after every blight. The surface people just don't care about it. Their lands are safe so business as usual. Never mind that if Orzammar falls, the only stronghold between the Darkspawn and the surface will be gone.

Granted, there are a lot of exits out of the deep roads all over Thedas, but if darkspawn are not intelligent, they will be going after the largest population that is closest. Without Orzammar, that's the surface.

Orzammar is very important for the future of Ferelden, Blight-wise. It always struck me as odd that the two didn't have an alliance. Orzammar's not getting any larger and when it falls the Darkspawn will run rampant.

You'd think the two would have better relations but I guess this is one of those stubborn dwarven things.

You bas are strange, you launch an exalted march against those who would free you from the slavery of feudalism and grant you the enlightenment of the Qun and yet not once has an exalted march been declared against the blighted spawn of the magister lords whom the dwarves have been holding back for centuries with only a few grey wardens to aid them.

Thought for the day: Are you worthy of enlightenment, be sure of the answer for all the world must bow to the Qun or be swept into the abyss of unknowing.

Huh? I always thought it's more the failure of the humans, not the dwarves. As soon as the Blight is defeated nobody cares anymore. The Darkspawn are back underground and slaughtering the dwarves? Why should they care? Out of sight, out of mind.

I always thought it was Dwarves since they have to live with this. They only eat lichen and nugs, drink ale made with anything they can find, and live stacked on-top of each other in hot sweaty smelly caves.

And if you touch the surface you're banished...and they're constantly fighting darkspawn and doing Provings. I mean, the Dwarven race is killing itself, it's very self-destructive for no other reason than traditions that no longer matter.

Opening free trade would help with the surface, allowing aid from the surface against darkspawn would help. I mean, I doubt the humans would want to but setting up a garrison in Orzammar would be a nice way to always keep tabs on the Darkspawn, which are always going to be a threat.

I just saw it as the Dwarves not humans being stupid. I'm sure there are humans who treat it as "out of sight, out of mind" the whole "didn't the darkspawn get destroyed last Blight" really backs that up. But I really dislike the self-destructive closed off traditions of the dwarves. They're my favorite playable race and they're so so backwards.

You probably already know, but you can actually ask him that. He rhetorically asks why any of our species are born smart or dumb, beautiful or ugly. It's as much a mystery to him as it is to us.

True, but I take that with a grain of salt. Dwarven culture is made of stupid and anything they don't like is stricken from their "perfect" records/memories. Hence the dwarf noble origin.

I mean people are stupid, but I find it hard to believe that the surface races all thought the darkspawn defeated without them having checked the Deep Roads.

Hey, you got a spare Tome of Koslun by chance? Mine's almost empty. Had Mexican last night and we were out of paper. Whew boy.

I agree completely. The dwarves are their own worst enemy, even considering the darkspawn. I have a hard time caring about their plight when they treat their own people like **** for being born to the wrong parents or for spending some time on the surface. Varric and Oghren are the only dwarves I actually liked. Well, Sandal too if he is a dwarf. I think he's a honey badger in disguise though.

Actually... if the templars win this war, I'm jumping ship to the Qun.

Also, I liked Bodhan.

I see a Dwarf and I'm already happy.

I see a Dalish Elf and I'm already rolling my eyes, Merrill's the obvious exception. I wish to see more Merrill in the future.

I liked Bodahn too, until I saw the markup he was giving me as a "discount" for protecting his sorry bearded ass. After that the only reason I didn't cut him is because Sandal would unmake me.

Meh, that's just game mechanics. It can't bug me.

Speaking of dwarves, is it me or does Jarvia imply lesbian rape in the Warden's future if she's female?

I think it is closer to forced prostitution, since Jarvia was straight and all.

I honestly disliked Bodahn in Origins. It wasn't until halfway through DA2 that I liked the guy.

I got the feeling from him, in Origins, that he was like Daniel Plainview of the DA universe. He found a child, used the child for his work, and pretended to be the father of the child. The fact that his 'discount' was nothing like a discount also underscored that for me.

I just didn't like the guy. I actually wished I could kick him out of the camp and some how keep an Enchanter around.

This is purely my opinion, but I think the Bodhan we meet in DA2 is very very different than the one in DA:O. In the second game he really truly seems to love and care for Sandal and he's quiet honorable and even has leanings towards loyalty.

All of those things are counter to what I perceived from him in Origins.

You know I've never played Female Casteless before. It's my most used origin and they're all guys. I've done Noble Dwarf females before but never casteless female...so I have no idea.

...but I'm intrigued enough to run through the origin to see.

No, it happens with any origin. It's right before the fight with her in A Paragon Of Her Kind: "Keep the pretty one alive! I have plans for her..."

I think it is closer to forced prostitution, since Jarvia was straight and all.

Bah, boring. Although why would one implied relationship with Beraht disqualify her from being attracted to women as well?

That's the way things work in fiction. A characters sexual preference is always straight until directly shown otherwise. Or rather it is assumed to be hetero.

Isn't it up to those experiencing it to decide, rather than some principle I've honestly never heard of?
