I think that we are going to be travelling with around any three of the below:
*Batarian
*Female turian or male quarian, who will have some sort of history with Garrus/ Tali
*Geth or (possibly female) drell/ salarian/ (possibly) krogan (depending on who returns from the ME2 squad, such as thane, mordin, grunt, etc.)
*New alien (possibly raloi)
*secret party member (basically a Prothean/ vorcha/ something unusual and expected, basically the Loghain, Justice, Legeon, Death's Hand, etc. for ME3)
*female human (since we get Vega)

Personally I really am hoping for a batarian this time around aswell as some more female aliens (A female krogan would be badass). A new alien species squadmate would be awesome. I think we have enough humans already, since we already have two plus the possibility of another returning, but I admit a lady infiltrator does sound sexy, expecially if she is russian.

So all up I predict our squad will be comprised of VS, Tali, Garrus, Liara, Vega, and then two members from the ME2 squad (i'm predicting Mordin, Legion, Thane, Miranda or Jack) and then three more squadmates.  So all up that is ten perminate squadmates.  Which does seem large at first (I thinking eight), but remember that Tali, Garrus and everyone imported from ME2 could all be dead (with the possible exception of Legion). That leaves the potential squad being six, which is quite a manageble size for a squad anyway with every class being represented.

Yeah, I'm sure he died in all 3 of my playthroughs so far, regardless of whether I saved the character who goes with them. How does it work?

As the shadow team shut down the machine at first stairs/platform bit, then at the second shoot the satellite on top, blow up the fuel tanks and shoot down the drones on the right side of those linked platforms before entering the base proper, oh .and don't turn off the alarms. He should be alive and well in the Engineering section of the Normandy after that

Oh I see. I missed the satellite on my first playthrough and my others were renegades who didn't go out of their way to help  Thanks!

I think I made a mistake though, the alarms bit is whatever the paragon option is for the alarms.... as long as you don't send more enemies to Kirrahe it should be fine. xD

I set of the alarm in Kirrahees side (renegade option) and he survived.
If you do the rest, he should be fine (the flyers can be kind of easy to miss I think).
Listen to the radiochatter, it'll tell you when they're in trouble.

Oh, and on topic:
No batarian squadmates please, the only good batarian, is a dead batarian.

We already have Vega, so I'd say we should get 2-3 new squad mates. I'd like to see a Batarian, and a female Turian. I'd be 100% good with this.

Seriously though...more Volus and Elcor love, pretty please? I mean, a minor crew NPC, someone working with Tali, Ken and Gabby down in engineering or something? Just for a few exchanges? They don't need to be fully developed, just give them a basic story and make a bit of a talk possible like with Ken and Gabby, throw in some random jokes outside of talking to them (like..with Ken and Gabby) and I'll be happy.

An elcor with a jetpack....see, THESE are the kinds of things Bioware needs to get in the game, not romances or action or story. Just...an elcor with a jetpack. Throw in a teenage pirate monkey sidekick and we're set for best game ever.

Nah, I don't think he'd be able to forgive you for the pyjak genocide minigame on Tuchanka. The Shifty-Looking Cow, on the other hand, wouldn't have any divided loyalties. It might work as a substitute for Kasumi.
