I did some snooping in the Mass Effect 1 vehicle files and found some interesting designs:

As some of them are incomplete, I assume they were abandoned without being completed.
The Geth Gunship is one of these.
I thought Sovereign had too many limbs before, but you should see his first version!
It's interesting to see the ship labelled Human Fighter actually ended up becoming the Turian fighter.
I'm curious to know what the Oculon is, seeing as it's fully textured, I assume it's in the game somewhere, but I never learned who created it/or who it belongs to.
Considering that all these models exist in the game, are they ever used for some reason?

Some pretty interesting stuff. Interesting to see how some of these have changed. The human dreadnaught (the "rough" one), which is pretty cool, appears to have turned into the fuel depots we see around the galaxy in ME2. Looks much better as a warship, IMO. Here's a pic:

That "shuttle A" one is used in ME2, but only as a model for Shepard's room. Although that might be a result of a late-development model swap.
Other than that, "Human Freighter" and "Transport Tanker 00 Rough" look pretty cool as well. Shame they weren't used. Some of these even look semi-realistic.
And isn't the "Oculon" the closed Citadel?

Nice catch on the Human Dreadnaught->Fuel Depot conversion.
I guess they do keep everything in case they need to reuse it later.
Yes, it does look similar to the Citadel, but there are a number of differences that suggest it is not.
The color is wrong, the Citadel is a metallic dark black/blue color.
And the Citadel resembles a flat ended tube when it's closed, it doesn't have a sharply defined point at one end.
I guess I'm going to have to continue wondering what an Oculon is.....

I know it's been a month or more since this was last discussed, but I'd like to point out that the Oculon, based purely on it's name, could be an early version of ME2's Oculus interceptors used by the Collectors. Their design in ME2 seems to point to the Reapers more than the Collectors. Both models have fairly simplistic overall design, and I can definitely imagine the Oculi's directed energy weapon being fired off that pointy edge.
A shame the Geth Gunship didn't make it. The model alone looks fairly interesting.
