Hello to everyone out there in TV land! I have been thinking about this ever since Bioware said they were going to reduce the number of permanent  squadmates from ME2's 12 to a smaller number. Of course, they are not going to tell the specifics just yet, but since some felt that 12 was a bit much it got me thinking: what would be your perfect number if not 12? For me, the sweet spot would be between 7 to 10, but as we all know, numbers alone are nothing. Quality needs to go WITH the quantity. My team composition would be something like this: Garrus, Tali, Liara, Virmire Survivor, Zaeed, Kasumi, Legion, Grunt, and one new face to mix things up a little. That's a grand total of 9 right there. How about everyone else? Discuss!

Six isn't enough and twelve was too much, so either 8 or 10.

I like even numbers.

8 like DA:O is perfect. Everyone gets enough depth to feel alive and included and it'S enough people to be called a crew.

I'm going to agree and say 8, with a small proviso.

I think it would be awesome if you had 8 permanent squadmates for the bulk of the game, but then for the final mission you can bring back any two of the temporary squadmates, just for that final mission. That way if your LI didn't win the perma-squaddie lottery, you can still have them by your side at the very end, It would allow the squad not to be overwhelming, but it would also give a nice little bonus to players whose favorite character isn't permanent.

Eight was a good number for Dragon Age Origins, but let's not forget that was a huge game, probably much longer than Mass Effect 3 will be, and also focused much more heavily on characterization than Mass Effect series has ever been.

8 is the perfect number for my needs. It can cover a wide-variety and provide balance. Maybe 2 more slots for temporaries for the occasional mission where you can't use your normal squad.

You can really break it up nicely.. 4 males, 4 females; 4 aliens, 4 humans; 4 biotics, 4 non-biotics.. or not, but I do prefer things to be equal and even where possible.

See, I prefer aliens to outnumber humans. They have in every single game so far! ME1: 4:2. ME2: 7:3 w/o DLC, 7:5 with DLC. Of course, that's probably just the Xeno in me talking.

You bring up some good points CGG! That would be a great way of going about it too, that way I would be able to bring back Samara and Thane. As much as I liked that they just didn't make the cut on my list. :P

HUMANS RULE! GO CERBERUS!

Heh. Kidding. You know, I hardly ever noticed until you pointed that out. It's a good point considering how deep humanity and the galaxy at large is going to be. :police:

Mordin Solus, I will drag your geriatric butt with me to save the universe if it kills us both.

(Honestly, I probably wouldn't actually. Mordin deserves a nice break. But he had BETTER be on my ship as an NPC for the majority of the game. He had better be.)

Also, I am totally monopolizing this thread but it is late and I can't sleep.

Ignoring story, my ideal 8 man squad would be: Wrex, Mordin, Garrus, Tali, Kasumi, VS (Kaidan, usually), Nigel FishnChips, New Femturian (would also accept new FemDrell).

Factoring in story: Garrus, Tali, VS, Legion, Grunt, Kasumi, (Newgirl) (Newguy)
Mordin - Permanent NPC, starts on Normandy, has at least one temp squaddie mission.

Yes, putting Kasumi on both lists is selfish, but she is my favorite female human. If I'm forced to be practical, replace her with Liara.

My perfect number is the lucky 7.

...But if I *have* to have more aliens on my squad I'll go with 9.

My lucky seven?

Ash/Kaidan
Liara
Garrus
Tali
New male LI
New Female LI
second new male LI

My ideal number would be 9, including Garrus, Ashley, Liara, Grunt, Thane, Tali, Legion, a new character, and either Mordin or another new character.

*chuckles* That so huh? Heh, well you got me beat there because I am just about at my limit at staying awake. B)
You know, now that you mention it, it WOULD be pretty cool to have a female Turian squadmate! Or course, that would also make for an interesting romance option but that is another conversation for an entirely different thread. -_-

Oh believe me, I have put way too much thought into the femturian romance option. And I have posted it in all the threads. At this point I'm not sure if I'm mocking myself.

Oh, perish the thought! It's cool because it hasn't been done yet! Of course, now thanks to that addition MY squad number went up to 10. :P

Anywhere from 8-10 for me too. So, besides the five confirmed, I'd add Thane, Nigel, Miranda or Kasumi first. Then Legion and FemTurian next. Oh, how I wish for a number of open slots to choose whomever exactly you want.

6 permanent options, and 4 occational ones (ie Samara not on the normandy but you can use her for the Asari homeworld missions, same with Miranda and Cerberus-specific missions)

Hmm...mission specific options. Why the heck didn't I think of that? Odd. Still, I'd wager one of my paychecks THAT is also what Bioware has in mind.

Oh, I thought that mission specific temporary squadmates was assumed, at this point. (I'm going to turn out to be wrong about this and look dumb, I know it.)

In some ways, I consider Morinth a "proof of concept" thing... "Can we put different characters into this slot and not break the game? Yes? Ok we can do a more advanced version in the future." LotSB Liara is the same thing, proof-of-concept-wise.

I also think it's possible that one or more of the eightish permanent squaddies may be a second act addition (like Tali in ME2) or even a third act addition (like Legion in ME2). I could be wrong about that, though.
