No, CGG you make a very valid point, and no you are not wrong. It just didn't dawn on me until now. The mission specific squadmates could work and very well if Lair of the Shadow Broker is any indication.
What is YOUR perfect number/make-up for squadmates?

LOTSB was an interesting little diversion. Though if LI's are relegated to such a role in the finale i'll be very disappointed. For characters such as Wrex, Mordin etc, yes i dod think mission specific returns could work.

I think it could be anywhere between 7 and 9 depending on some factors. I suppose 8 would be the sweet spot, although if they could pull of 9 without sacrificing dialogue and scenes for the rest then the more the merrier. Still thinking you might have to choose between certain squadmates as well.

I'm going to start with what squadmates I want, then I can try to decide on a number.
Liara, Wrex, Garrus, Mordin, Legion, Ashley/Kaidan, 2-3 new ones and maybe Tali and/or Miranda.
8-10 seems ok.
It would be interesting if some characters would or wouldn't join you depending on some decisions you make. It could be like the recruitment missions in ME2 (but shorter, I want all/most characters available as soon as possible) but you're only able to complete 3 out of 5 (or something like that).
I would really like if you would have to prioritize. It really annoyed me that you were able to do everything before doing the final mission in ME2. It would have been much better if you would have been forced to do every main mission as soon as they were available. I'm hoping ME3 will be more like that.

Hmm well as many as they can reasonably make while still keeping the quality and amount of interaction good I guess. I’m going to have to agree with the general consensus and say 8-10 would be good.

I don't see why there needs to be a constant squad thorughout the game - having some of them come and go (as has been alluded to with the temp squadmate talk) for certain sections of the game would work quite well.
So I'd like a varying number between 3 and 12 depending on where you are in the game.

6. We'll be getting many temporary squadmates.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Still, I think I'll stick to the ten I described. Who knows? Maybe I'll get lucky.

6-8, including any DLC characters.
I want depth more than breadth.

10 party members
5 males + 5 females = 10 squadmates is enough for me.

Thankfully the good people at Bioware are of the same mindset so I have no worries there. Still, with variety being the spice of life and all, a few extra couldn't hurt. Like a female turian Spectre for example.

Six isn't enough and twelve was too much, so either 8 or 10.
I like even numbers.
Pretty much this, though from the gest of things seems it will be a revolving door type deal. (As in minus 2 or 3 of those spots being stuck others will be filled by other NPC's at odd times)

6 party members, anymore than that and I am more than likely going to use them. DA:O had for me play multiple times just to use damn near half of them. I still haven't used other people yet. Same with Mass Effect. Barely used anyone. Even more so for Legion who is at the end.

This. I'd trade half the squad from ME2 for some good party banter and more dialog any day.

6-8 will be just right. Happy with the squadmembers that have already been confirmed, so anything else now will be a bonus. I'd love a female Turian squadmate.

8, 9, or 10 would all seem fine to me. like someone else has said, it's large enough to call a crew but small enough to properly give each person a good amount of depth and character.
as for the make up (going on 10, factor down for small squad), i'd prefer 6 aliens, 4 humans | 3 biotics, 7 non biotics | 5 males, 5 female | 5 LIs, 5 non LIS (this works out since Liara can be a LI that is considered neither male or female)

id actually not mind more or less my entire ME1 and ME2 team to be my team...of course that would work better if you would have 4man parties rather than the current 3 man lol
When you think about it, a team that large isnt that outlandish...it might not make sense from a character development perspective but an elite military operation could definitely use the numbers and redundancy a 15 person combo team provides

Nine. It's one of my favorite numbers, anyway.
Given that Liara, Garrus, Tali, the Virmire Survivor and James Vega are already confirmed as full-time squadmates, that leaves four full-time slots on my list. Ignoring my personal favorite characters in favor of sensibility to the story, I would say that Miranda, Grunt and Legion would be my choices, as well as a female turian.
Mordin, Thane, Jack, Jacob? Wrex, too? The five of you should be given temporary status with various alterations if you're, you know, dead.
Zaeed? Kasumi? Boy, I'd love to fly with you again but it would be a challenge on BioWare's part. Or maybe not? Casey Hudson already mentioned Zaeed specifically as 'out there, doing something appropriate to his character'.

I'm sure that, just like in ME2, many of your squadmates will live or die depending on how you play the game. I highly doubt that Bioware would take many people's favorite character and give him an unavoidable death with no variables involved.Grunt Lord wrote...

9-10 I think.
Already confirmed:
1. Liara
2. Ashley/Kaidan
3. Garrus
4. Tali
5. Vega
Who I think/hope the rest of the crew will be.
6. Miranda/Jack (in game choice VS type thing, like to have both on the squad at the same time but I'm worried the female to male ratio will become unbalanced)
7. Thane.
8. Grunt or Wrex. Either one doesnt matter to me. Not DYING to get either back but they are gonna put a Krogan on the squad it's inevitable. Might as well be one we know.
9. New female squaddie (Vega's counterpoint).
10. Mordin. I've heard rumors (or maybe it was just fan speculation, hard to keep up with everything) that Mordin will be spending a lot of time on the Normandy as the mascot Salarian Scientist. If so they may just go ahead and make him an active squaddie. I love him as a character but hardly ever used him on missions so if he's just a tag along character I'll be happy with 9.

Seven or eight is good. No more than eight. Too many variables and there wouldn't be very good squad banter which should take priority.
