Makeup is the important thing, not number. There are only too many squadmates if they are repetitive and thus not used. Samara comes to mind, I never use her, I can't think of a time where her skills stand out as must-have in any scenario versus other squadmates.

2-3 biotics
2-3 techs
3 trained with guns you lack (like a sniper hand for my Sentinel)
2-3 CQC/crowd-control types

With some overlap, about 7-10 is good.

im more concerned about the human to alien ratio. squadmates:

looking like not only is the ship going to be human crewed...but the perm squad is going to be human dominated again. ME1 was 1/3. ME2 was just under half at 5/12. ME3 looks like it is going to be 1/2....too much for me. be cool if there was more non-human crewmembers on the Normandy that didnt actually go on missions. to show some kind of unity between the species and what not...maybe the Normandy flees without a full complement and gets crewed as Shep makes alliances...that would rockzer.

6 Pokemon + One Trainer = 7
But I would also be glad to see over 9000.

Five from a possible ten.

By that I mean you have ten possible recruits but you can only fill five slots with those recruits. From then on, you have the standard mission protocol of choosing two squad mates from those five whenever you go on a mission.

The five that you don't choose, you still have the option to do their 'loyalty' mission, it's just that they don't accompany you on your primary journey. But the choice not to take them has positive or negative consequences down the road, aside from simply not having them available to you, for instance, if you take Tali as one of your five instead of leaving her with the Flotilla, the Flotilla won't be as capable in the upcoming battle with the Reapers. So your ending might be a little bit different than if you'd left her behind.

That sounds like replayability. I like this idea a lot. However I don't see how leaving Tali with the Fleat makes it more able to fight the reapers... not even mentioning that she can be already exiled.

Interesting idea. Still, I hope we will be able to keep more than just 5, which includes my favorites.

I'm good with six, especially the six we have. Though if I had my druthers James Vega would be replaced with Jack or Grunt. I can only take two with me anyway, three options for each slot works for me.

I hope the number ends up being closer to six than twelve, at least.

I would say for the task at hand in ME3 we need 6min 8max for the perminate squadmembers I would love to be able to truly handpick my crew instead of like we got in ME2 we had dossiers and we could either skip getting them and that was it. I would rather use the SB base to read up on and see them before I recruit them and if I don't want say Jack cuz she's crazy I'll be able to use the SB base to find a substitute strong biotic who isn't insane instead of just not going to get Jack like before. Of course two of my 8 slots are reserved for Tali and Garrus.

8-10 would be plenty... I'd like to see the size of your team change depending on who survived from ME2

Nine is still ringing all the right bells for my brain.

Give me what we have now plus three ME2-introduced squadmates and one more new character.

+ 3 new ones? Count in cameos from past squad members and you have a pretty big roster.

I think 7 is a great number. Five of those are already confirmed permanent squadmates, then two more of your choosing to allow some ME2 favs (if the initial members are dead, allow the optional members to join with the tradeoff of them not being able to help their respective planet/resistance fight off the Reapers).

Everyone else should be temporary; I'd gladly give up extra squaddies for the chance to develop Legion, get Jacob to lighten up, and see Garrus do something other than calibrate.

That's what we've been led to believe so far. We shall see. I'm still hoping for a Turian female squadmate to go with my original 9.

7 of 9

ooops, ok 7 to 9, 10 tops. Would also be nice to have 4 squadmates per mission instead of 3, perhaps for larger fights.

8 perma-squadmates: Ashley/Kaidan, Thane, Miranda, Jacob, Jack, Tali, James Vega and Garrus. It just seems right that all the romances return to help kick ass and take names.

I'd prefer around six or seven permanent squad mates, but it really depends on how they work it in regards to temporary squad mates.

True, although for some reason Miranda has showed up quite a few times in people's posts here. I liked her, but not enough to warrant a permanent squad member status. Still, her popularity is higher than I was expecting. Almost makes me want to bump my max squad number from 10 to 11. ALMOST. :P
