Oblivion was a bland and dumbed down Morrowind, it won GOTY after GOTY award.

So, I don't think it will be a disappointment in that regard.

Though I guess you could argue that Morrowind was a dumbed down Daggerfall. Still, at least Morrowind had a unique setting and great lore.

Anyways, I'm thinking M(eredith) Stannard is much more likely to be an angry fanboy, as opposed to a Bioware employee.

In any case, from the little I've played of Witcher 2 so far, it freaking kicks ass. It gives the vibe of "okay, this is the game, here's the manual, here's a little tutorial popup, now keep up!" as opposed to the handholding we see in so many other games.

Not necessarily. Let's not forget Rockstar just released LA Noire as well, which will surely be a GOTY contender based on pedigree alone. If you want to narrow the field to RPG of the year, maybe there will be some wiggle room to declare Skyrim the inevitable victor but I think The Witcher as an IP has enough credibility with gamers and professional reviewers to be a serious contender, if the gameplay and presentation is good.

Witcher 2 is now the Best RPG of 2011 and GOTY2011 pretender whether you like it or not. Deal with it.

We have to see if Skyrim is a competition for Witcher 2 or not. I hope it is. Plus there's another RPG on the horizon - Deus Ex.

Anyway, Skyrim nor Witcher 2 won't win GOTY award imo. Not with Portal 2, Uncharted 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution  or LA Noire as competitors.

This will degenerate into something really not healthy for Bioware. Because of what happened with DA2, if this is a revenge attempt by few who are attacking what may become a GOTY, the next Bioware game will be crushed on metacritic whatever it is good or not.

There is a lot of rational-thinking good reviews of The Witcher 2 and it isn't just bias opinion. You have to gave CD Projekt RED credit...they really make The Witcher 2 outstanding RPG game.

I don't think you need to be PCgamer to knew The Witcher 2 was at least could be considered a "standard good" RPG game, and it's not because 95% of people love it and you think it's overrated...it's because The Witcher 2 isn't cheap RPG with lame plot and broken gameplay...it's game with satisfy gameplay richful RPG elements(Yes, I'm playing it right now...it's great but it still has flaws), and beside...Skyrim haven't release yet...so no one can judge, and you were missed more games that could be considered "good" competitors. I'm looking forward for Skyrim as well...anyway it's impossible to know GOTY of 2011...not now. No offence, but that was very narrow minded attitude of your anyways.

We are serious. Skyrim isn't the "killer" that can win GOTY with ease. Too many good games are realeased this year. Witcher 2 is one of them.

This is why I say that the BFD has done BioWare a disservice like none other. They've more or less single-handedly succeeded in degrading this entire community and turning it into the laughing stock of the Internets. The questionable moderation didn't help.

That is a gross miss-interepretation of what has been said, they are doing away with the "class system" and supplementing it with a seemingly more intuitive system that let's you shape who you want to be by how you play, to me it seems that they are allowing more player costumization than the previous "pick this and stick to it" system, true they have taken away mystisysm, acrobatics, and speed (i think) however several of the spells are being transferred to other skills, i that to you is negative then so be it.

Come on guys Skyrim is the GOTY already, I am not saying this because I am a bethesda fanboy or what not, far from it, if anything i am a rockstar fanboy but Skyrim is probably the most anticipated game of all time. They have already engraved Skyrim on the award. There is no way on earth Skyrim will not win GOTY or RPG of the year. No way what so ever, i will enjoy gloating when the results are in. I am not saying it will be GOTY because it deserves it, I am saying it will be GOTY because thats the way it is. How the industry is.

and mysticism sucked anyway, the only reason to have used mysticism was to fill soul gems.

Jealous of what my good friend? I have no doubt the witcher 2 is a great game, all the reviews i have seen point to it being so, it just isn't my cup of tea after seeing some videos of it, just like super galaxy mario or whatever has perfect scores but it just isn't a game for me. I am saying Skyrim will be GOTY, not because it will necessarily deserve it (which it might) but because it is the most anticipated game of all time and that is how the industry works. Wait and see then friend.
