Not sure if the mods will appreciate outside links, but I feel examples are necessary of it working well. The best example I can give is Neowin (a techie forum). The World of Warcraft forums have something similar for their custom forum software (you scroll down hitting the Quote bubble and it keeps adding them to the box below).
Basically, on each post is the normal quote button along with a multi-quote button. You scroll down reading a thread and hit the multi-quote button. The forum saves it and when you hit Reply you are taken to the normal post page with all of the quotes you have selected in the box waiting for you.
This would be especially helpful when responding to lengthy threads, especially where lore matters are involved. Currently if I want to have several quotes in a single post, I have to hit Quote for each person, copy the posts into Notepad, go back to the thread and hit Reply and then paste all of my saved quotes from Notepad into the box. It's a very tedious process.
