So, far I"ve completed this game three times and each time, it's been a joy to try new things.

On this, my fourth, playthrough, I decided to try something different: adjusting my character's appearance.  Shortly after the beginning of the second and third acts, I went to the Black Emporium and added some wrinkles (through the Complexion area) and changed his head and facial hair styles.  The one thing I couldn't do was add some cool temple wrinkles, which is unfortunate.  Indeed, if there was anything I'd add to the next go around (assuming the events take place over the course of seven years), it would be to allow a bit more detail to this particular customization.

On my next playthrough, I'm going to be a sinister bloodmage who won't necessarily age, but will look more and more diabolical as the game progresses! Image IPB

Has anyone else toyed with this feature regularly?

A little but nothing major, just one tweak up between the years.

So Hawke ages and nobody else does? Nope. I've tried changing hair, make up and facial hair 'between' acts (not all on the same character, mind you), but the complexion intervals all seem too drastic to happen over three years. I try to avoid making changes that are too drastic for continuity sake, anyway.

I figure that Hawke ages because he's more stressed than the other characters. Blight, dead sibling, indentured servitude, trapped in the Deep Roads, potentially another dead sibling, and a mutilated mother.

Anders doesn't age because he's possessed (to a degree surpassing Wynne). Aveline's very happily married and isn't as stressed out. Merrill and Fenris are elves (and in this game, even the older elves look great for their age). Varric is too easy going to get stressed. Isabela's melanin offsets her age (just speaking from my own experience as and observation of some dark-skinned folks who don't seem to wrinkle as swiftly as some light-skinned folks). (Can't wait to watch people blow this statement out of proportion!Image IPB)

So, yeah, I figure my Hawke can age and the other characters don't have to!

That being said, I see your point. Image IPB

I changed certain parts of him each act. As much as I was disappointed by DA2, the Black Emporium gets a solid "YES" from me. I hope that character customization beyond creation is a trend that catches on.

 Racist!!!!!!
*ahem* But anyway, I just found it easier to overlook the characters not ageing than to come up with reasons why everybody except my character doesn't age. Call me lazy.

I use it to do Ms Hawks hair and makeup, like an exclusive hair salon.

I love using the mirror. Often I let my Hawkes have short hair in the beginning, hey it's practical when you're fighting in Ostagar. Then it gets longer after each act =) I like how they go from military-looking scruffy young person to a noble with nice long hair.

I love this mirror too. Congratulations to Bioware for this improvement. I always age my Hawke, evolutioning her make up, hairstyle, ... and not so often her rides at the third act :-D... and thanks of certain mods, even I change her wearing armour parts recently... companions too...

Heads and tails... Great Mirror of Emporium vs poor and repetitive scenarios...

I changed my hawkes hair and make up between acts - Act I pretty rough hair style, Act II a nice one, get rejected by Fenris - change hairstyle again. I love the black emporium :) Haven't aged my Hawke though

Do women talk to the mirror as if it was a real hairdresser I wonder?

"Oh Nathan! It was so horrible. I like Fenris....yes that one...yes with the tattoos. No! I have not seen ALL of his tattoos! Nathan you are just terrible! My friend Sebastien? Yeah I think he is single. Don't you dare ask him out! Can you give me some kind of Bob Bouffant? Yes, I saw it Orlais Fair....ha ha! No I read it just for the articles! You are such a dear Nathan!"

Well done, sir.  That made me laugh.Image IPB

And I've aged my Hawke once.  I like that little touch with the mirror in the Black Emporium.

I don't do drastic shifts like hair and skin color/texture, but I do change hairstyles and makeup. Generally going from "Ferelden Refugee" to "Kirkwall Noble". I might fade the tattoo a bit, or add one later. Generally, the only change comes after the transition to Act 2. I grow attached to how my Hawkes look and don't like changing them constantly.

My Hawke started off with a fresh goatee and by the end of act one he had a nice beard. By the end of the final act he had a full blown Dwarven beard.

... I imagined this scene with Nathan(iel) Howe. :crying:

I usually only make small adjustments but I always change hair and makeup at the start of a new Act. I figure Hawke should change over the years even if noone else around her does.

I had to age my guy Hawke. Started him at about middle of the slider. Anything younger, and it's so hard to make him not look girly.

Ichange my hairstyle with each act, too. Ialso make adjustments to my face etc. in the first act. But I don't do a lot of aging. I have enough of that IRL.

I started out nearly clean shaven, and use the emporium to grow more and more hair, so by the end of Act 2, he looks like the character in the trailers. A full beard. In act 3 I use the preset to give him the blood stain on the nose.

I grew a very long beard progressively. It was one of the few things liked about this game.

Changed her hair and in one case darkened the tattoo for each act. Also wore different outifts to suit the changing tone of the piece.

Took ages to find the right clothes I can tell you! The things I do to look right (thank the Maker for modding armour appearances).
