Just finished my Paragon playthrough on Mass Effect 2, and I wanted to make a Renegade, so I put ME1 in, played through Eden Prime, the Citadel, then landed on a planet...all going well, untill it came to driving the Mako! I'm so used to driving the Hammerhead, I'm ashamed to say I could'nt make the Mako go in a straight line!! XD

Funny really, because I actually prefer the Mako over the Hammerhead!!

What do you prefer? Mako or Hammerhead? And what "should" be in ME3?

Hammerhead's mobility + Mako's power = best vehicle ever.

Bring one of those aircars and strap a huge cannon on it. Better armored than the Hammerhead, more agile than the Mako.

As clunky as it was I'll take the Mako any time compared to that tin-can hammerhead. I miss planet exploration.

the Mako is like driving a tank whilst drunk ... it is never going to turn out well with that combination.

I'm a bigger fan of the Hammerhead, although I admit that the combat aspect of the vehicles definitely tips in the Mako's favor. I just like speed too much to let that sway me over completely.

Boy,I had some good times putting the old Mako's climbing skills to the test.

I'm with JeffZero, though, the Hammerhead's vastly superior speed is what wins me over every time, but I love the Mako just as much but in a different and more nostalgia-heavy way.

Mako appeals to my love of old school (or rather modern) planetary rovers. Feels very satisfying to comb over the surface of an alien world where few have set foot - in the game of course, obviously I don't have real life experience!

For that I will always prefer it over the hammerhead.

Give me the Cerberus Atlas Mech they mentioned to ride around in and Bioware will counter every point against this game that could ever pop up after it's release.

Speed--Hammerhead
Weapons--Mako
Armor--Mako
Maps--Mako
Interface(HUD)--Mako
Getting out when I want too---Mako
Controls--Hammerhead

I would love a mix of HH and Mako, but will probably get something else that also doesn't do what it should. They came so close to having a really great vehicle in the Mako, and decided to chunk it instead of refining it. If they had made the Mako a hovercraft in ME2 but kept most of it, then it would be totally awesome.

Agreed.

On their own the mako is too cumbersome and the hammehead is made of tissue paper.

maneuvrability, i love hammer head, but unfortunatly, when it come to combat, the game is not realy built for that vehicule, you have to move in circle and stay at max range against tourelle, especialy in Overlord dlc.
The fight against the geth cannon was intresting and fit perfectly the hammerhead capability.

The Hammerhead is a worthless piece of crap when things are shooting at it.
Really makes me appreciate the Mako.

Something like that might work. I honestly hate driving the Mako around and climbing super-steep vertical walls after playing ME1 around 3-4 times. I just can't take it anymore. :P

I would rather be drunk driving a tank, than explode because I ran into a blade of grass too fast in the Hammerhead.

Depends on how long the mission is. The main problem with the Mako was that you were overly dependent on it, and it got boring after a while. The Hammerhead was really fun, but you barely got to use it.

What would be really good is if in ME3 they allow you to customize the vehicle, where you can put points into speed, firepower, or durability to suit your own preferences.

Are you talking about terrain to traverse? because the terrain you traverse is a whole lot better in Me2 than the mountainous tedious terrain in Me1.

Vehicle wise, I prefer the Mako. its tougher and has better weaponry. Put the Mako in simplistic terrain akin to Me2 minus the jumps and you got a winner.

I missed the exploration of the Mako, it just made the Universe seem so much larger (granted the actual planets were barren) and the Mako's combat role as an armored troop carrier.

The Hammerhead... I loved the diverse and scenic planets it was on. It was also handled better and worked well to quickly insert a small squad.

Now.... my ideal scenario. Is DLC or ME3 missions where you can choose either the Mako or Hammerhead for missions on a series of planets.

For example if you chose the Mako you are inserted into an open area and have heavy combat roles and then do a ground mission with your squad.

If you choose the Hammerhead you are deployed into a ravine or smaller insertion zone. Stealthily get to certain points to collect data, do recon, and then quickly deliver your squad to a vulnerable point at the base.

I'm not sure why it's so hard to drive the Mako for some people. It's not impossible to get it to drive straight forward. Helps if you keep the main canon in a fixed position. True enough it has a tendency to swerve around a bit more then it should. And it's a little bouncy, but otherwise I never had a problem with it.

Perhaps I just inherited my grandfather's tank driving skills? I dunno.

I dislike the Hammerhead not only due it's lack of shields, inability to lock on etc. but also because it "clunks" on everything that isn't a flat surface. I just can't stand that, nor imagine what that'd do the vehicle if you were banging the rotor pads against the ground. That and the Hammerhead clips through terrain  sometimes and you can only exit it and certain points. Marginally less fun. The speed thing is the only thing the Hammerhead has going for it.  Cause it doesn't turn that great either and you more or less just strafe side to side and jump with it to fight enemies.

Especially when its shields were depleted. God, waiting for them to recharge to a level where they actually stopped rounds/rockets/siege pulses was mindnumbingly boring.

I actually prefer the Mako...the "it WILL get up this rock face" driving was fun!! =D The Hammerhead just wasn't, for me fun... the planet "exploration" in ME2 was abit linear...I hope ME3 has exploration back, and the Mako!! =) No Omi-Gel though =/

I like driving around planets in the Mako, I feel like the team should all sing if there aren't enemies about though. Hate waiting for the shields to regenerate, I sometimes bugger off and make a coffee while I wait or just get killed because I'm too impatient to wait for them.

Save, quit to menu, reload, shields partially or fully restored. Can do the same if you have physical damage to the Mako and dont want to spend the omnigel to fix it.

I prefer the Mako for fighting as you can see your shields and damage. With the hammerhead you never really knew how bad you were hurt other than the alarm sounding.

Travel wise I think they both have fun elements and frustrating elements.

Sometimes having to work out jumps or lava runs with the Hammerhead was quite tedious but it never got as bad as trying to navigate the really difficult mountainous planets with the Mako. There were times when I was left tearing my hair out with the Mako triying to find a way over a mountain range and just grinding to a complete halt no matter which way I turned  Image IPB
