I bought it and didn't like it.

Still, kinda useful, because I really don't like ME1, so having to play it again from start to finish if I want a different character is a pain in the ass.

It's not just 4 dollars. People can't do simple math. If you add up the paid DLC on 360 and PC you get 45 dollars. That's just about the price of a new copy of the full game when it came out on PC and a large fraction of the 360 launch price. All of that DLC combined is still a small fraction of the content of the full game. That'ts terrible bang for the buck and easy profit for EA. Not to mention the fact that a new PC copy of the full game can be had for 15 dollars now easily. That's 1/3 the price of all the DLC. That's pathetic. DLC never goes down in price over time like it should. DLC is a scourge.

Nah.

It's just 4 dollars because most people bought the game ages ago, so they had plenty of time to make more money and now 4 dollars for something - specifically, a Mass Effect DLC - is just 4 dollars.

It should play automatically once you start a new game.

well i just played through mass effect1 again after a year and i loved it.
the scenematic ending is great directing, i had a tear in my eye "sniff"

my only gripe is NOT being able to have a threesome with Ash and liara :P

Mass Effect 1 should have been included as a free download, even if you
up the cost to 400 bw points. I consider it completely nessassary to anyone who "hasn't"
played ME1 you wont be dissappointed, it's a beautiful work of game art and includes
the excellent "WAKO" planetary vehicle, which suprosingly didn't make it into ME2

The sarcasm is strong in this one.

I don't know where it starts and where it ends, though.

While I'm a little disappointed that Xbox and PC users have to pay for this (although I do understand that it took extra work to re-code this feature into existing builds and some compensation for the programmers is necessary), I'm glad that at least Xbox and PC users have the option of being able to set their decisions when they start a new game.

I bought it, installed it and it says it cant verify and won't play. This is bull since I bought it with bio-ware points I already have and I like have every DLC there is for the game already. This is the first one that wont play and I want to know why. I have downloaded it and everything but it treats me like I got it illegally. I understand if it is glitch but otherwise please explain why I paid for something it won't let me use because it thinks I didn't pay.

I am having the exact same issue.  Now c'mon!  I really dig the game, and I have paid EA more than I really should have for all this.  It is paid for, official DLC, so what gives?

Huh, I was completely wrong. I was under the impression that Genesis was only activated for new game where you did *not* import a ME1 file. This is untrue; it will activate in an imported game and tell you what decisions you made up until the Udina/Anderson decision (you get to choose that one). Maybe it won't activate if you don't skip the credits, though?

This does the same thing as Gibbed's Save Editor, except only six choices and it costs money. I don't really see the logic behind charging money for this.

I'm fairly happy with it. It's bizarre that it plays after Shepard dies (it'd make more sense to see the comic before the ME2 intro starts) and the Martin Sheen impersonator is rubbish, but I like being able to effectively make an ME1 savegame in 15 minutes. I also like:
- Not having any xp/resource/paragon/renegade bonuses when starting a new ME2 game (the beginning is much better balanced this way).
- Not having any ME1 romances forced on me.
- Not having to use the ME1 face editor (it's much too easy to make a face that's fubar when viewed from the side).
- Not having to deal with every single person I ever met in ME1 showing up in (often glitchy) ME2 conversations.

Meh. I won't complain about being charged money for this because I have ME1 and it's not like anyone put a gun to my head to buy it, but now that I have it, I'm sorta thinking I really didn't need this. Between my three imported savegames plus the all-renegade ME2 starting default, I had the majority of the possible outcomes covered anyway, and if there's anything else I want to try, I'll do a full ME1-3 playthrough next year, not piece it together this way.

Long story short, if you just got ME2 and/or you really don't want to play ME1 for some reason or other, it's probably still a good idea to get this, but if you've played both games multiple times, this is totally redundant.

And it's ugly. Man, it's ugly. I'm sorry, but has this artist ever actually SEEN the Normandy? She looks different in every panel. And what's with Wrex's anatomy and the armor magically transforming into a headscarf? Ugh.

You don't need to start it.
It's automatically part of the game, unlike the other DLCs.

You just select Start New Game (or new character) and as soon as the Normandy attack/escape pod sequence is complete, the motion comic starts up, the story plays out, you make your choices, then the game resumes as normal.

You will notice that the Miranda/Illusive Man dialogue changes slightly.
She doesn't refer to the events of the past anymore, it's just a discussion about making sure they don't lose Shepherd and hunting down Geth.

Although I didn't need this comic (having played ME1), it was still nice to be able to get it for the pc and watch it.

Bought it. Tried it. Must say I was disappointed.

I use Gibbed's save editor to create/modify characters for ME2. I was hoping this would have the options of Gibbed's while only allowing me valid combinations (and thus being safe for ME3). Instead I get a web-comic (it was alright) and the 6 options I best understand from Gibbed's. Considering the web-comic is free on *tube I currently consider Genesis a waste of my money.

How Bioware can make this right: include an advanced chooser with the DLC that allows Genesis owners the options of Gibbed's without the risk of creating saves illegal for ME3. It doesn't need to tie to the web-comic. If interface is a problem, have it generate an ME1 save after choices are made. If authentication is a worry, have it be web based through social.bioware.com.

TL/DR?
Genesis needs an advanced mode (no need for web-comic) with the following:
>Influence over ALL ME1 plot flags
>ME3 compatibility safe-guards/warnings
>Authentication based on owning Genesis (not needed by us, but this is to add value to Genesis after all)
>Possible export choices as ME1 save file if this all can't easily be integrated with ME2

As an aside, I would hapilly shell out another $5-$10 for a program/DLC with those features (If it's at the upper end, I will grumble about paying for Genesis though). Alternatively, notes (from bioware/devs) on valid flag settings and what circumstances trigger them in game would also be appreciated.

Ok, I've been doing some experimenting (360 version):

Import ME1 save:
everything works correctly--Miranda and TIM talk reflects Council choice, the intro text reflects Council choice, the love interest (or VS depending) greets Shep, and no comic.

New Male/Female character:
everything works correctly--Miranda and TIM talk has neutral dialogue, the intro text is vague on Council's fate, Liara greets Shep, and the comic shows up.

Import ME2 character (New Game Plus):
Here is where it gets weird--Miranda and TIM talk has neutral dialogue (incorrect), the intro text reflects Council choice (correct), the love interest greets Shep (correct), but the comic appears and makes the choices for you except the Councilor choice (weird).

Totally wack. I wonder how much of the new game plus oddities were on puspose and how much of it are "bugs." I don't use NG+ anyway after it was gimped. But I'm very glad importing a ME1 save was not messed up by Genesis :)
